    I play flute as first instrument and trumpet on the side. After I play the brass, flute is so much easier and my tone is fuller ❤😉❤

    I'm a flutist who plans to pick up trumpet soon! Was it hard having to switch from the flute to the trumpet back and forth and was it hard learning the trumpet?

    Haha leaving trumpet and am learning shakuhachi (Japanese end-blown flute with a reputation for being hard to play) and am going to pick up a flute because I don't want to turn my back on Western music.

    @@alnotyourpal Every instrument is air flow of course and your flute experience may help you but .... trumpet is very different. Very very different. Look up some lectures by Laurie Frink or classes given by her, they're on here.

    I play flute and the funny thing is sometimes my director has to tell the saxophones clarinets and even the trumpets once to play louder because the flute section was outplaying them lol

    A favorite instrument among "traveling street kids" AKA "crust punks" AKA those annoying kids with backpacks and dogs who travel from town to town and play music on the street or hustle for spare change etc ..... is the recorder. I was hanging out with a street musician friend who plays the recorder and a couple of these travelers showed up and .... one of the guys could play the recorder LOUD! It was just a standard little Yamaha plastic job but could he ever get some volume out of the little thing.

    Thank you for your response, Amélie! I haven't tried a thumbport yet, but I intend to at some point. But what really has helped me so far is placing my R thumb behind the flute, not underneath it, sort of as you demonstrate, but a bit higher. (This position, btw, is called the Rockstro position. Rockstro didn't invent it, but he was the first to write about it.)

  • @flutechannel

    @flutechannel

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes of course, Rockstro. I failed to mention this. The flute is built unbalanced which is a drawback to the instrument. But with the right position it is possible stabilize it. There is even device that goes under the left hand that stabilize the flute even more and makes your hands almost free flow across the keys.

  • @gitasong

    @@flutechannel What is that device? Is it the fingerport, cousin to the thumbport?

    5:45 - Flute: Trombone: Tuba: Any horn: Any other instrument: Piccolo: Am I a joke to you? Lol but in all seriousness totally agree with the memes. Band instruments were just, god, you could hear that trumpet from all the way across the football field, hell, on the other side of the school. Trombones sluring up and down their register while riding in a shopping cart

    You play beautifully. I know your a Dr on the flute. Can you hear a song maybe that someone is singing, and get familiar with it's sound and Melody and play that song on the flute with no sheet music? I'm sure you can. My music teacher used to do that just by hearing it then playing it.

    I have same question.........I play in a jazz ensamble, we are only 10 persons........only 2 flutes, the rest 1 trompet, 2 trombones 5 saxos, but my idea to solve this issue is by getting me a mic.......can you recommend a wireless mic ? will this solve at least part of the issue ? thanks !

  • @flutechannel

    Yes there are two. Both I think you still need a receiver pack from which there are many to choose from. But try "the feather" by myers pickups or the countryman i2 flute microphone are pretty great mics systems.
