I know it’s probably a silly question and I don’t really know how to explain it but how do you get that like vibrating sound while holding a note? Mine always sounds like one constant pitch/note and does not do that vibrating sound... how do you do that?

I will never forgive my music teacher for keeping me from playing the flute because I was fat. He should’ve never been a teacher to begin with. Thank god my mom put him in his place. Sadly that moment affected me so negatively it still has me self conscious some times till this day.

Just got a flute yesterday, all I gotta say is I personally believe it's harder to play than the (alto/tenor) saxophone, it takes far more air and you can't place your lips on something solid and firmly like a mouthpiece or a reed, props to flute players tbh

It is interesting to see how a musical instrument shapes the body of a diligent musician. Never reconized with a flute player. The muscles of a trompetist are quiet different
I’ve played for 7 years, then took 5 years off. So I’m super excited to pick my flute back up to maybe become professional. I have started overthinking it after all this time, and this helps a ton to bring it back to basics and relax.

Just bought a flute today from an antique/second-hand market stall. Never played flute in my life. I recently started playing the altosax and had an idea of how the keys are supposed to feel and to seal and this flute, although far from perfect, seemed to be able to be of full playable capability. I watched many videos before stumbling onto this one and couldn't get a sound out of it. As soon as you explained it it completely clicked into place and I'm playing notes with ease. Another really helpful excercise is holding notes. You start at a1 and go the chromatic scale down to c1, then from a1 and go the chromatic scale up. Play every note as long and as loud as you can (or as long and as quiet as you can) and breath after every note. It helps you to control your breath duration and tone. Also helps you to figure out exact amount of breath for every note.
this was a lot of help! i’ve been playing flute since i was very young, and i’m currently helping some classmates learn flute at my high school. it’s been difficult for me to explain how to play it comfortably, since it’s just instinct for me. this really helped me explain in detail to them how to make a sound :) thank you so much!!

Merci beaucoup !
I re-watched this video and picked up on don't stress over the lip position. It was hard because I couldn't make sound because I was covering the hole or to far from the whole. The mirror has been the best tip yet thanks.

I guess we have different ways of playing a flute, but I find this way my type of playing a flute for an upcoming concert.
I usually play long tone, and James Galway’s warm up to keep my embouchure similar as possible as I can. Few days ago, I realized that my embouchure is too tight and not relaxed. So I am focusing on keeping my embouchure same. And taffanel and gaubert’s finger exercises!
For a clear sound, I used go practice in the bathroom, you can hear everything. Eventually I practiced outside, if your delivery and pitch is good the sound resonance carries outside. Too bad I couldn't keep time. You are such an awesome instructor.
Those low notes sound so great
