The gameplay impersonation is hilarious, but it also shows that Hera really does understand his opponents pretty well. Knowing your enemy is half the battle, after all

Viper did a series like this in the warmup for HC3. His conclusion at the end of the game where he smurfed as Daut was "I play better as Daut than as myself!"

that's actually a good take. Daut lacks the speed and micro of younger players but has amazing game sense, strategic thinking etc. a faster player playing a Daut-strat might just be a stronger combination than simply playing his own playstyle.

This was really fun, thank you! I've heard it said that Daut is the best player in the world for 2 games a series. Was checking liquipedia today after this video came up - he's only been swept twice in S or A tier tourneys in the past 18 months. Apart from Hera, I think that's the best record of not being swept in the world. He can be beaten, but the only person who can truly embarrass the Lord is the Lord himself. 🏰

Fun content idea: Make a "Hidden DauT" showmatch. You and DauT play a bo3 under hidden cup settings. You play like DauT, and the viewers try to guess who is the real DauT. You lose if most viewers guess DauT correctly, you win if you can trick the viewers that you're DauT

9:06 Very much like the "fleet-in-being": in WWI: the German navy was smaller and weaker than the British Royal Navy, but because the threat was there, the British navy had to stay close. They only had one huge battle near the end of the war, with most ships on both sides surviving, and that was it. If they had fought and the British navy had lost enough ships to equal the 'strength' of the German navy even though in a real battle Britain would have lost less than that, the UK would have come out ahead because it could have then used its navy for other things.

Pretty good but don't know. You didn't have enough 'aww common... awww commmon... yikes ke ke ke.. i am so bad' You should have went Samurai for the sole reason that they are cool. You also didn't accurately predict exactly what the enemy would do, not bother to take any action to counter it, then still be surprised in 5 mins when it happens and laugh about it 😂 You have to love Daut, plays to have fun on ladder but loves the competition in tournaments and can switch it up to give anyone a tough game, while still maintaining his playstyle.

Like do a series for example lierrey viper Red bull and go for the Initial gameplan and the specific moments that lead to what adaptations. 15-20 minutes. Including what do they see what they showed to the opponent. What the civ matchup called for etc

Hear me out, Imposter Cup: Round Robin Tournament with 4-6 players, hidden identities, the catch is before the tournament starts each player gets another player in the tournaments name and they have to try to play like that player the whole time (ie: Hera gets MBL and he has the play like MBL, DauT gets Tatoh has to make demo plays etc.). 3 game sets, winner of set gets 300, loser 150, After each set the players guess who they played. Player who got the most players to guess who they were trying to impersonate gets another 300

issue with that is that knowing and understanding other players is a long way away from being able to play like them So while Hera and some others at the top would be able to, some others would simply play worse like imagine the opposite here, DauT playing as Hera. while daut may even be able to do the play style somewhat, hera is *fast*.

This is actually pretty interesting... if Hera literally knows the playstyles of all his opponents, that gives him such an advantage. I'm sure they can recognize when it's Hera as well (these are all pros after all) but him actually TRYING to play like his competitors... that gives such a leg up if they're not doing the same... Hera is next level...

Very nice. I think only one minor mistake was that DauT would go for early ballistics if he goes ranged units. At least that was the meme. He doesn't micro, so he goes ballistics and "now you can't micro either!" And DauT plays against Liereyy who would outmicro ballistics and DauT gets mad.

these impersonations are great and really show that you study and understand your opponents a lot. but i think you are missing a bit of the pychological aspects (probably bc you are one of the most rational players on the top) 1. mbl doesn't just go for messy stuff bc he wants to throw off his opponent. sometimes he goes for messy stuff bc he is pissed. tower on opponents woodline. opponent tries to take it down with vills. mbl get literally angry and doubles down (wall in tower, send more vills, get into a mutually assured destruction under the tower, build another one right next to it, etc). 2. daut doesn't just go for unique units of cav archers bc these "get the things done". sometimes he chooses units, simply bc they are cool and fun to play with. daut is 50% pro gamer and 50% happy kid playing age of kings in 1998. that's just my 2cents, thought. both these games were extremely fun to watch.

also the daut castle is actually smart because it forces the opponent into also placing a non ideal castle location which is one less castle that couldve been put in your face. Daut wouldve gone for relics i think and he wouldve bought back the 200 stones and still somehow gone for 3 tcs.

14:15 A lot of people tend to assume that feudal-line units are ineffective against castle-age units. But even MAA, without Longswords upgrade, do great against Pikemen. Remember, a knight dies in five hits from a pikeman, or as few as four hits without Bloodlines depending on upgrades; a MAA dies in 12 hits from a pikeman, which becomes 15 hits with a +1 armor advantage, 3 times as many hits as a knight which costs twice as much. Even a Militia wins 1v1 against a Pikeman. Mangonels were friendly-firing which would have hurt the MAA more than knights, but if the MAA had fought, the fight wouldn't have ended with all your knights dead.

7:00 Serious comment, DauT or not: running away from a single archer with all MAA is often not a good thing to do in this case. You have four ineffective units who are still taking damage from the archer. If you chased the archer with one MAA, you could have three effective units and one ineffective. The same applies to cases like being surprised on a woodline with archers, when archers are guaranteed at least one kill. You could chase and fight with one villager (the one who will die anyway) while running with the rest. (As well as things like trying to trap archers and fight with all, which might not be effective depending on archer number and the overall game flow.) Then the question is, could three MAA by themselves accomplish anything at all? Often the answer is no: easy to make short walls. This is where players need to adapt their strategies: try things like bring a villager to wall up a woodline, so when you get ranged units there or build a tower later, you have easy kills. We saw something like this a few times in recent tournaments, but it hasn't become common as a way to punish a delayed/greedy reaction to MAA.

If you weren't DauT, you could have split off 4~5 CA to go back to snipe the monks or stick close to the mangonel. at 20:42, could have split up CA for less overkill, killing twice as fast.

Hidden Cup should have gone all-in on the hidden aspect, not just a $100 prize for whoever was hardest to guess. Give each player three other random players that they can try to emulate, with a big prize if the audience thinks they're one of those players, in addition to a bigger share of the prize if their opponent or the audience can't correctly identify them. The first Hidden Cup was enough to show that top players winning (TheViper at the time) was not just about intimidation. Now it should be about entertainment.
