@@matticawood Truly you are both an incredible youtuber and unbelievably remarkable pianist as having the musical talent that I aspire to have, with me being only a grade 4 pianist; I look up to you! 😀

This video is quite advanced if anyone is trying to do what you do and doesn’t know a lot about playing the piano (like notes in chords, scales and key signatures). But thanks, it was interesting to watch.

Rachmaninoff's prelude in C# minor gives me chills and as only a grade 4 pianist i am aspiring to play it eventually starting today Nov 12 2023.

Your piano knowledge is amazing! It’s crazy how you can replicate themes in such a short time and know the chords and how to place your fingers! Thanks for the video

Wow. Sight reading is already impressive enough, but hearing a piece and being able to recreate it is on another level. Though, I watched the video waiting for the Pink Panther theme as he was the first image but got Scooby Doo instead 😀 You woulda gotten away with it if it weren't for those pesky kids.

I’ve spent the first 4-5 years playing piano and not paying much attention to my sight reading and chords. Are there any pieces that you recommend I play to help me sight read better and learn chords.

Sight reading is really just about reading lots of music until it becomes second nature. So it’s hard to suggest any specific piece of music. I would recommend trying to read 1-2 pieces of music everyday without having looked at it before and without playing it more than once. If you do this everyday for 6 months, you will notice a big difference in your ability! For chords, the best way to understand chords is to first make sure you know the theory (which chords are in which scales), and then maybe in those same 1-2 pieces that you are sight reading each day, afterwards go through it and work out what key it is in, where the chords change, what the chords are and which note of the scale that chord is from. Good composers for pieces that use clear chord structures are Mozart or Haydn. For example; if the key is C major, the chord in bar 2 might be based around a G major chord which is the notes G, B and D and then it might change in bar 3-4 to an F major chord which is F, A and C. G major is chord 5 in the key of C major and F major is chord 4 in C. If you read lots of music regularly and start learning to see pieces of music as a series of chords, then you will get really good at reading and understand chords! 😊

Do you have any advice for ear training? I have been playing the piano for 4 years, yet i can't play anything purly by ear. Great vid btw.

I have done a couple of videos on how to play by ear, and I’m currently working on a course on it! It’s kind of hard to give some actionable advice in a comment…However, if I was to try and give you one piece of advice, I would say; make sure you know your scales and chords! If you know those then you can listen to a song, find any note that you think might be in the song and that will narrow down what scales it could possibly be using and therefore it will narrow down what chords it is using 😊

@@matticawood ye, I really like analyzing music but I unfortunately am not entirely qualified to do so, one of my favorites is blind spots and I really don't know why to be fully honest. I just find music interesting. Idk what I'm even saying lol
