I have been teaching piano for 25 years and I absolutely love this video! Everything you say is clearly explained and you stick to just that really important points. Thank you. I sent this video to my student tonight! Additionally, your explanation of how to make worship music more interesting was very, very helpful. You are brilliant. Thank you.

I laughed so hard at 19:04 for some reason lmao. Anyways another great video Matthew, this one in particular was really helpful! I can’t wait for the playing by ear course to come out, I will be getting it the second it does! Keep making amazing videos!
It is always so nice to watch one of your video. The quality is insane and it is just a very nice moment everytime. Thank you for that :)
Hey Matthew 👋 i think you would love to analyse Sofiane Pamart !🎹 He is a french pianist who is currently becoming a real star 🌟
Thankyou for answering my question regarding improvisation and creation of melodies. Please make a detailed video on how to be a creator and improviser right from the beginning. What's the point of learning others songs when you can't be a creator.
Thank you Matthew! For answering my question! You are an underrated youtuber! Earned my sub
Matthew!! Thank you so so much for answering my question!! This was super super helpful! I've felt so lost and stagnant with my playing because I felt like I was not practicing the right things, or practicing properly. I go to in person lessons once a week, but even then I felt like I wasn't getting the right advice. This was so so helpful! I literally jumped up after you answered and sat down at my piano to work some things out. You've broken it down into such a manageable way, I have no doubt my practice sessions will be much more productive now, especially in terms of scales. I was basically just going up and down hands together, sometimes working on different volumes in each hand, or staggering the notes so they're in between each other to keep it interesting. The idea of not just working on scales, but working on techniques that give me trouble at the same time is fantastic! Thank you again, so much! Your content is always so thoughtful, and focused on helping those who want to play, whether they've been playing for a day, or 10 years. Whether they're 15, or 75, you make it easy to understand for everyone. I really appreciate all the effort you put in, I can't wait to see where this channel takes you in the future, you definitely deserve more recognition! ❤ From Canada 🇨🇦

@@matticawood you picked the perfect time, all the snow will be gone! I hope you enjoy Canada, and Ontario! It's a very beautiful country, especially in the warmer months lol My next goal is to get your piano books and make my way through them. I feel like the way you explain things makes it really easy for me to understand, and I appreciate the time you put into all your explanations. Enjoy your trip! Have a safe flight! ✈️

Thank you so much for answering my question! (Question 2) I definitely am able to play by ear much more better when I know my scales and chords!!
@matticawood

That’s no problem, chords and scales are like the bread and butter in a sandwich 😂
Thank you Mathew! Your answer was exactly what I needed to hear and you explained it perfectly. I’ll keep practicing with intentional and manageable goals for each session. Your content inspires me to keep going. Thank you!!!!
Thank you for awnsering my question, I have always wondered if my next piece is to hard or not for me. Cause there are pieces i can understand when i look at it but when i start playing it takes along time to get it going but that may be because i have a bad practice routine idk.
@matticawood
Ай бұрын
No problem! It’s often hard to tell how difficult a piece should be, and its difficult to find pieces that are a perfect fit. 😊
Please please Please make a vídeo on how to eliminate thumb accents ejem doing arpeggios

Thanks, pretty interesting video! 🤩 I play keys on a band and always looking to improve. There are some brilliant ideas on this video and also helps to see people have same problems I do, so I don't feel alone 😅

I really like your videos you really encouraged me to start learning classical but I feel really lost on what songs to learn and what techniques are used in playing and which motor skills that i should practice
29:50 Thanks for the reply. Will definitely try out your suggestions.
Matthew do you provide personal piano lessons over Skype or Zoom? I would be interested after I learn all my major scales and their diatonic chords which I am working on now. I want to learn how to improvise with long runs between chords using the entire landscape of keyboard. I see incredible performances by the pro's like yourself and can't figure out what their doing, what patterns or scales they use.
@matticawood
Ай бұрын
I do, there’s a link in the description 😊 A lot of the time players will find patterns they like through a combination of theory and trial and error and messing around with the chords…it’s a fun skill to learn 😊
More Animenz please!
i think to me, music is also like a drawing because we play out from our imagination and just like we use to quit drawing when we cant write down our imagination, we somtimes cannot play what we are hearing in our minds. Every persons handwritings are different just like the way we play and our emotions are different.
Hey, I really need help for the first music in Fur Else, I have practicing for over a year still can't play it
Mathew how do we accompany a vocalist, when there is only a vocalist and a keyboardist

Good question! I think it has been 2-3 years 😊
Does anyone know do you have to take music for gcse to study at music college? Because I'd say I'm pretty advanced in piano but didn't really care abt theory(only passed grade 5) and I didn't take music GCSE.
@matticawood
Ай бұрын
You don’t! For university you do, but for music college it’s usually an audition process. It’s probably a good idea to do music for A level though as it could help 😊

I think the aspect of having a teacher was severely underplayed in a lot of answers. A beginner doesn't know what he doesn't know, that's the biggest problem. A good teacher will accelerate your early progress by helping you really focus on things that matter at the moment.
@matticawood
Ай бұрын
It’s important to have a teacher if you are interested in progressing quickly, avoiding issues and I agree that you don’t know what you don’t know. However, while in an ideal world every learner should get a teacher, the reality is that there are many people that have other priorities and just want to play a couple of chords. While that wouldn’t be what is optimal or what I would do, not having a teacher shouldn’t be a barrier for those without aspirations of taking it that seriously 😊
If you only focus on how to get to the first camp in Everest you will die. Don't do that.
