This is why I love the Ramsey’s, they don’t deviate from the baby steps. After I paid $150k and building up 3-6 months emergency fund, I feel guilty to pay for $10 lunch once a week.

Not if your vacation time can be banked and cashed out later. If your leave is "use it or lose it", then sure, you might as well take time off, you probably have a dozen home repairs and yard chores youve put off forever. But if leave time can be accumulated and cashed out if you get laid off, or have a sick kid for months and have to quit.....you need to keep that time like cash in the bank.

Dave really said it well, and so did Rachel. Money turns a crisis into an inconvenience. I tore the sidewall of a tire on a jagged curb in front of my friend’s house one evening. We called AAA, got the car towed to Costco, and they replaced the tire immediately. I paid very little because the tire had only 5-10 percent wear. We talked about how because I had AAA and a Costco membership, it was only an inconvenience. I was grateful, and happy to have a friend who felt the same.

Emergencies don't seemingly happen to people with emergency funds because people who are smart enough to have them to begin with don't tend to make poor decisions throughout the day. If you're the type of person that thinks you can go on vacation while having no money, you're also probably making poor decisions throughout the day. Which only increases the chances one will bite you bad eventually.

Go on a 3 day mini long weekend vacation (so as to not overstay your welcome) and visit a relative. We've both done this and hosted relatives doing this, and it is very affordable. You eat at the home, and one time during the visit we treated them to a dinner out, also covered groceries. All we had to pay for was the dinner and groceries (which we would have bought at home anyway) and gas to get there and back. We went and did sightseeing at local attractions on the cheap (parks and such). Very affordable and a much needed break and change of pace.

It’s probably not a weird statistic if you think about the behavior and mindset behind people who finish and put together an emergency fund vs those who get complacent. The ones who are diligent are likely diligent in other areas to prevent emergencies or solve problems before they become huge issues. Where as those who get complacent I would think tend to be complacent in other areas. As Dave always says it’s not an intellectual/math problem it’s a behavior problem.

Sometime in life you don't get everything you want. Stuff happens deal with it. I wants to go on vacation with my parents but I didn't have enough money. Or I got sick or injured on the specific date that events. Family members you can not go special events because we don't want you. I learned this well growing up with a disability. The problem with this generation is fomo.

But what if we just used our emergency fund, and don’t have quite the $1000 saved back up we are very capable of saving it back up after the vacation, but this vacation was actually a Christmas gift?
