I liked this idea a lot. A person could get really creative about the rules of when, how you get to use it. I hope he plays the last Magus bot. I wonder if he started with at least two to three moves, would he need much more then 4 checks to beat it.

The problem (which you noticed) about having just a few Stockfish recommendations, is that sometimes he plays a move for a reason that's not apparent to you, 10 moves down the line... So playing "the right move" may not do anything for you, as you don't know the continuation. For this reason, if I had to win a game with such Stockfish lifelines, I'd try to get to an OK mid/late position, and would use all my stockfish recommendations in a row (well, skipping the obvious moves like recaptures). This way, I don't just get 3-4 random moves I don't understand, I get a line of 4 perfect moves!

Those three bots are so powerful it might hardly be much different. What I suggest(if we're going with progressively worse) is starting with stockfish(or any other high rated chess bot) and ending with something like Martin.

In addition to being interesting content, this also illustrates the issue of potential online cheating in high ranks. Levy cheating for 5 moves per game matches a bot 500 points higher than him, and he's good enough that it's not inconceivable that he could see stockfish's suggestions on his own (obviously not that often, but...) a 2500+ rated player cheating on one move every few games could easily make the difference between winning or losing a high level tournament or gaining 100 points over time while also being pretty much completely undetectable without having someone physically watching them the entire time they played.

I still say that I want this to be a tournament format. Explicit computer-assisted chess, with a given number of moves each player gets to consult. (I might even consider trying it where black gets one more consult than white, say 4 vs 3, to see if that offsets the white advantage in play.)

As another variation, how about saying that on any turn you may ask Stockfish for the best move, *but* you must not play the recommended move on that turn; you may play it later on a turn where you don't ask Stockfish for the best move, but of course the move might no longer be optimal then.

Just thinking... because predicting what Stockfish's plan is from one single suggestion is quite hard in many situations (like you said), wouldn't using 2-3 suggestions in a row, so you get a better idea of it's plan, be the better strategy, rather than using 3 or 4 single suggestions at different times?
