Can ferrite Core Improve the sound Quality? | Noise Choke

A ferrite bead is a type of choke that suppresses high-frequency electronic noise in electronic circuits
in fact it don't improves the sound Quality of mic it might work if we place on the speaker wires

You aren't realizing that the noise your mic is picking up in both instances is ambient room noise. A choke will not reduce this. When you switched to your "high quality" mic. We can plainly see that the mic is more sensitive and thus looks like it has more gain... It pics up ambient noise more readily. A choke is to stop RF or EMC/EMI. It's about interference reduction. They're for that type of noise.. Not audible audio noise.

I've been trying to record using my iPhone 13 directly from my mixer using special line to mic cables .. it sounds really clear in regards to background noise except for this damn electrical hum.. I've tried everything with volumes , gain levels , diffent outlets, different cables and tried ferrite today and it didn't make any difference.. is there anything else I can try ?

@@Mj-bg2uj You have to troubleshoot the whole thing... Perhaps the noise is being introduced by a component. Once it is on the line, you can't remove it without knowing where it comes from. You might have AC mains hum coming through the mixer. I can't say for sure though as I can't do the troubleshooting.

@@Scrufboy understood thank you .. I've literally done all kinds of process of elimination and the only thing that changes the hum is when the dimmer switch in the room for the lights is turned on / off ... The previous homeowner installed a dimmer but used non dimmer bulbs so the lights are either on or off .. I'm going to have an electrician remove it

@@Mj-bg2uj Yeah, that sounds good. Seems the noise is on the mains... But it comes from the dimmer you say.... You can swap that out yourself. Hit the breaker, wire in a standard switch. Or be safe and have the electrician do it. You will probably be OK after that. Hope it works out for you.

@@Scrufboy thank you! Yeah I've had issues in the back room before .. i plugged an electric guitar and amp in and there was so much hum that it was virtually unplayable.. the electrician came and put the room on a different phase and it sounded 90% better .. if I play acoustic guitar with the PA i can't hear the hum but when I try to record directly from the mixer the phone is picking it up which sucks bc other than that noise it's really clean .. if I record while I'm not using the mixer it just becomes too much background noise and clutter .. I'm going to have the dimmer removed and hope for the best.. thanks again for the help ! Appreciate it

Excellent! Thanks very much! I liked that you left the plug in place not to add new variables. I believe the second mic is a capacitive one and it already uses a balanced connection. Perhaps the first one is a simple electret with two wires. I have some of those cheap mics/wireless systems and I get a lot of noise. I'll reduce the cable lengths and add the ferrite core. Once again, Thanks!!!

You should try this with a Fourier transform to the frequency domain

This is not a scientific process. You are not addressing the issue that the ferrite cores are designed to mitigate.

I just installed an android unit in my car and they tell me that when I speak they hear a whistling sound that varies with the engine speed. It should be the alternator. Do you think the ferrite on the power supply of the android unit can fix the situation? And could I put one on the microphone cable too? Thank you

  • @TechsScience

No, I don't think the ferrite on power supply of android can fix it since The noise is captured by the Mic You will have to filter it at Mic or At amplifier, filtering the power supply will not work
