OMG, so helpful! Thanks, Matt. This confirms all the work I'm doing with your awesome FAI Fix program. Training Muay Thai for a bunch of years left my ass sticking out and my belly dumping forward, which has led to chronic, constant pain in my right hip. Totally, completely stuck. I'm like the world's only limping yoga teacher. Fan-effing-tastic, right? But with your and Shane's help, I intend to make a full recovery. Right now my whole practice is turning my right butt cheek back on without recruiting the whole hip complex to do it. Amazing how basic this gets! And yet so profound at the same time. Learning lots about myself from this whole process. Again, thank you for your dedication and service. Sharing!

Matt, another fantastic video. I've been working through exercises you've suggested in previous videos and my pain has reduced completely down. I've even completed short runs (progressing to medium ones soon!) without issues which I never expected to achieve months ago. Thank you again for the effort you put into these videos, they're really helping me.

Hi Matt, First off, I just want to thank you for your insight into FAI and for providing a non-surgical way to address it. Your videos have been very helpful, and I've been able to add some stretches and exercises to my normal PT routine. Thank you for that! I've been diagnosed with bilateral acetabular retroversion (with anterior impingement and posterior dysplasia), and I'm trying to avoid surgery on my left hip after having a scope (May '12) and a PAO (May '14) on my right hip. I was wondering if you've had success in treating and avoiding surgery in patients with hip dysplasia and preventing subluxations/partial dislocations. I've just started watching your videos, but I couldn't find any specific to hip dysplasia. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated as I'm definitely not looking forward to putting my life on hold for another three months to get my left hip fixed. Thank you!

Thank you! I’m at the point where I may need surgery. I tore my labrum years ago and since I have autoimmune psoriatic arthritis and fibromyalgia, my doctor doesn’t recommend fixing my tears. He is sending me to a surgeon to fix this. I tried physical therapy to wake up the muscles and they had to slowly restrict exercises because I couldn’t walk after. So frustrating especially with all of my issues.

Matt, I just want to thank you for all the videos you guys put out. I began developing symptoms a few years ago when I was powerlifting and I have finally reached a point where it's controlling my life. FAI doesn't make sense to me... I was able to squat ass to grass with 405 on my back with solid form, and now I suddenly can't squat below parallel in an air squat without bone on bone pain. It makes zero sense that I would be able to do a squat or deadlift with 400-500 lbs at one point with minimal to no pain, and now, all of the sudden, I'm in snap city with nearly every movement. I purchased the FAI fix and I've noticed some small changes, nothing drastic, but I suspect it's due to being in such immense "mobility debt." Regardless, the fact that I'm able to alleviate the pinching, grinding pain by rolling my high hamstrings, glutes and TFL makes it seem undeniable that the issue is due to my musculature, not some magical, mysterious, insidious bone growth deformity. I'm still in alot of pain but I think it's getting better. I'm a cop so time is limited and it's not always an option for me to avoid things that might aggravate it (I have to be able to run) Again, thank you for what you do. You guys rock.

Hi Matt, my name is Alex and i am wrighting this from Belgrade, Serbia, this is my first time to leave a comment on you tube, just wanna say that i have a problem with my IT band on left side, but i am on on a good way to solve it beacause i saw your every video under Hips section, just wanna say that i saw a lot of others videos, like P90x, or Kelly Starett and other you tube videos, but your explanations helped my the moust, also i have a lateral pelvic tilt, my right side is a little higher than left side, amoungs other things it is moustly because my left glute is very weak (i had to say that now is a little better because i am doing exercises for glutes), and i streched QL on higher side, also i am doing lately your quad strech that also hits psoas, so my hips looks better now but i still got lot of work to do, my final wish is to solve IT band problem that has bothering my since 2009, and to start running, i saw your video about what to do when one glute wont fire, so i am streching more quads, inner tights, and for the glute strenghtening i am doing leg raising to the side, clamb shells, hip hikes thats`s for the glute med, and single leg glute bridges for the glute max, maybe you can do a video about IT band because a lot of people is strugllin with it, once again thank you for great explanations, and keep up the good work, greetings from Serbia, cheers!

Thank you for your video's I have FAI and i am football player and weightlifter but the last few years i was getting lower back disc problems and without any money to do much about it, with slow time progressing and fighting through pain i had no internal rotation in my right leg, so i saved up and saw a chiropractor which fix my back pains and released pressure in my spine from weightlifting but my leg was still a problem so i went to a physio and after spending alot of money and being told i need an MRI for a suspected labrum tear. Finally i saved up and got an MRI, the MRi said there was no miss shape or tear but a FAI with a herniated pit in the head/neck i have stopped exercising altogether trying to save more money for a specialist or more phsyio (i was told corrisone was a possibility) But after a few months of my own study or "experimenting" and listening to my body i have come across your videos which has given me alot of insight on what i need to do to get heal myself and become stronger havent commented in about 10 years on youtube, this was worth it Thank you

I did an x-ray because I have being having a hip pain on my right leg for a while and Lowe back pain. I just got the result and they said I have a bilateral cranial acetabular retroversion, my primary doctor said to go to orthopaedic surgeon to get the surgery but I’m really scared I don’t wanna do the surgery, I will go to an orthopaedic surgeon hope there is other alternative treatments.😭

very detailed explainations indeed, thank you. I have recently been diagnosed to have FAI, which might has been a year. You mentioned in your another video saying that it took you about 3 years to recover from FAI. My question is: when it really has to take so long a period to get rid of it without surgery, would it be more reasonable to just have a surgery so that the pain could heal in a shorter time? I mean when it takes 2-3 months to recover with all these exercises, it's acceptable. But when you have to take years to recover, i would rather go to surgery. But i am still now trying the exercises on a regular basis hoping that i won't take so long a time....

+Dieter Qiu , that assumes that the surgery will, in fact, heal the pain. At this point, we've received many, many emails from people telling us how their surgeries did not help or made things worse. Sometimes it might help. Sometimes it might not. Sometimes it can make things worse. You don't really know til you've done it, and I would personally never want to take the chance on it.

I have been practicing yoga for 11 year. All of a sudden I have a very tight psoas and FAI. I have an anterior pelvic tilt. Which one is causing the tilt? I am having difficulty doing the simplest of yoga poses these days. I am consciously engaging my glutes now and releasing and stretch the psoas with a strong posterior pelvic tilt. Any other suggestions. Thank you in advance 🙏

I've had hip impingement on the right side for quite some time. The only way to achieve proper flexion of the right hip is to externally rotate my leg. On my left side there seems to be no problem achieving full range flexion. Do you think this is most likely a muscle imbalance issue? Btw you're videos have been extremely helpful for me as I'm applying to PT school as we speak, so thanks!

I have the same problem! :( On my left side there's really no problem (even my back is neutral) but on the right side I can't achieve proper flexion unless my leg is extroverted (and standing straight the right side of my back is anteriorly tilted). I also have some leg length disperancy but after I discovered this FAI condition online, I don't know if it's the cause or the outcome. I know it's been six years since you posted your comment but if you see this, please tell me if you got it fixed and how. I'm desperate and I've lived with this for years thinking it's because of a hip trauma + multiple surgeries to my leg bones after a truck ran over me when I was 4. Now 23 and until this day I have not ever come across anything like this video or the condition in my language. Anyway, did you find out what it was and did you get it fixed?

neutral is optimal. someone with anteversion will be more in a posterior tilt, therefore u want to induce alittle anterior to counter act it. to get an ant. tilt naturally strengthen quads

Hey, I have actually just been told I need this surgery, they were taking the measurements on the computer after an x-Ray and CT scan which I didn't really understand, but I have been told I have had this problem since I was around 12 and I'm 19 now, my right hip has more internal rotation than my left. I have been researching this surgery and the problem for a while now as I have 6 months to decide if I want to go ahead with surgery. What I've been mainly looking up is if I can get back into sports and dancing as this is my main concern.
