I've always sharpened my fallknivens on stones. Honestly once you get the hang of it then it's more natural then sharpening a v edge.

I have actually put convex edges on some of my hard use work knives that came with flat ground edges originally. They definitely hold a working edge a lot longer. Especially knives with m390 and 20cv. Simply strop at night and it’s ready to go the next day.

Great video Aaron, very helpful. Can I please ask what book you were referring to, with the description and picture of the convex grind? I have a number of different types of axes and knives, and it would seem to be a useful reference book. Keep making the videos, always informative 😊

Interesting technique. For a slight roll, I'll give it a try. For a chip it will have to be flattened, in my experience. Also correct in sharpening both ways not to turn a convex into a flat. I did that in my early days. It is still a good knife, but you lose a big advantage in the convex grind.

Convex knives don't provide performance aka edge retention. They do have their advantages though. But cut testing in both rope and cardboard has shown longer edge retention with v edge. With fixed blades I prefer a convex. With folders I prefer v edge.

I appreciate the video, but you barely pounded on that nail. If you were batoning the force of hitting a nail or rock would be much harder and would test your edge, steel and ability to re-sharpen in the field more. You held back too much.
