I'm not disappointed in Caufield at all. I found his game became so much more complete this season, and can still grow once our offence is no longer a one line pony. Had his shooting percentage been around 10%, we're talking about 4.4 more goals. Eric said 12% is around 37 goals... He'll be just fine.

It was so much fun watching Cole as a rookie, but it has been so much fun to watch him go in corners, checking bigger guys, stealing the puck on the backcheck, making jaw dropping passes... holy crap did he ever add tools to his profile this year! AND career high goals and points!!! Looking forward to next year and years following.

We have our 1st line now and so it is imperative to complete a good 2nd line to build a strong top 6 ASAP and not past the 1st line's prime. Need to get support for our top line sooner rather than later.

I agree with Tony ! When you talk about your team moving forward, the names you cherish later on down the road, they are on the forefront of your mind! Excluding a guy like Caufield makes me question if they think he’s art of the future or not moving forward!

"When hockey players struggle and you see the resilience, it really gives us a lot of cues of who can be part of that core moving forward. Do you think he's talking about one player in particular in terms of...you know what, we have a player who maybe has had his struggle and we'll see how he's able to respond, and then if he is or isn't, then we'll determine whether or not he's part of the core ?" Tony fishing SO HARD for Eric to mention Cole's name here, it's not even subtle. Tripling down on such a bad take is...nevermind, I'll just show myself out.

Again, very interesting; however, what I appreciate the most from both of you, in this era of big ego journalists, is your EQ. Thank you.

Once the Habs have two 40 goals scorer or three 80 points markers they will make the playoffs. This will happen in one or two seasons for sure. They also have to reduce the number of goals against them during PK and PP.

Caufield is a year younger than Suzuki... and look at the jump Suzuki made this season... Caufield will score 34 next year.

the player they are talking about is Josh Anderson , he just play for is salary in the last 3,4 month of the years , they want to see if he can bounce back like armia did or is he going to stay the same in a team that you want to play in the playoff , you can't keep a josh anderson that played at the level he played last year

Gorton was being careful and brief, that's all. Caufield took 314 shots, 8+%. shooting, Suzi took 185, 17+% shooting. Caufield with serious improvement is good for 35, but he will always be small when it comes to playoff hockey. Cole will have a reduced impact when the Habs start pushing into playoffs again, which will happen if they get a durable elite sniper, or another 2 way very productive center like Suzi. They really lack size up front.

Hi Tony, I’m 52 as well. You’re a great host, just one thing, please stop apologizing for having a stance, like you’re opinion on what you deducted from Gordon’s opinion on core players. Take your stance and unapologetic! You’re Italian! Oh!! 😊

It does not take a very good team to make the playoffs (Capitals, Islanders or Predators), but it takes a great team to win the cup. Does Montreal have enough high end talent to be a futur great team ??? Are Suzuki and Caufield first line players on a Stanley cup team???

What a croc. Tony, you and so many other people were talking about 50 goal seasons for cole, and how he was gonna be the greatest thing since Lafleur. That was last year. This year he doesnt even make 30 and you're calling it a good season?? And a lot of those goals were scored in the garbage part of the season, when nothing mattered anymore. When we were in the running for the playoffs he wasnt scoring. It was a sub par season relative to the salary.

its like tony is waving a red cape before my eyes if you compare coles goal production from last season and before. to this season it is not the expected trajectory . cole was on a 40-50 pace before his surgery .that is a core player . is a 25-30 goal guy a core player ? i also dont really like comparing one player to another . i.e boldy has such and such at a certain age . that does not compute . it is not data . you cant use someone elses curve . if cole shoots 300 times at a 10% avg thats 30 goals . if he will get more points it has to come from assists imo . can the habs win a cup with hutson and caufield as core players ? we shall see wont we . gohabsgo

Those great young players are all franchise players already, all bigger full-ice players than Caufield...Johnston as a top 6 center makes him impactful for the Stars. They're all very good one-on-one play driving players...an exciting group that can thrive 5 on 5. Too much hype on Caufield...waste of energy.
