Well in all fairness, Hughie was on Temp V so SB would've had to put a lot more force in that slap. Not a _lot_ lot since he's basically Homelander-level and Hughie is probably around A-Train's ballpark, but more than that slap for sure.

However, the interesting part about this show is that almost everybody has had antagonistic moments at some point. It’s a fun dynamic over the usual good versus bad stuff with a morally challenged character here and there. Soldier Boy is merely the lesser of two evils. Far from a good person, and I doubt he’d ever truly be able to redeem himself. But I do feel as though he could earn some respect. Far from a protagonist, but certainly not an antagonist.

Soldier boy unconsciously showed restraint because Hughie showed he cares for his teammates. That's what soldier boy is looking for, he just doesn't know it yet, but deep down,he respect Hughies value. Soldier boy seems like he matured after everyone betrayed him, and left him alone and then witnessing hughie and butchers none dysfunctional interactions with teammates.

Dude is it just me, or is Soldier Boy outta the box is more calmed down, and more approachable than his past self where he was shown bullying his teammates, beating Noir and Gunpowder into a pulp. Like he just hit Hughie twice, this slap and the punch later when he interfered with Mindstorm.

The only reason hughie is alive is that he was on V that moment

I'm pretty sure the sole reason why Hughie's jaw didn't break was because he was on Temp V.

He was probably mopping up resistance in France and Germany after the beachhead was established. Not as impactful as storming the beaches but still pretty damn impressive.

He told Hughie to shut his damn mouth cause they were looking for mindstorm (I think is his name), but Hughies ego was out of control from being on Temp V, so instead of doing his job and helping soldier boy he kept bugging him and pestering him. He just gave him a slap to set him in his place, so he lied about Normandy, ok, you got him, wow, good job, Compared to the other stuff hero's do, soldier boy was tame as hell. I think Hughie was intimated by soldier boys more traditional masculinity and was looking for anyway to take him down a notch, we see how insecure he is in season three with his relationship with starlight. Wanting to be a provider and to actually save her for once. It truly amazes me how the writers are confused about why people like soldier boy.
