Here's a tip, from a guy that works on these everyday at a dealership. Get yourself a torx socket 3/8" drive. Get urself a impact driver that you hit with hammer that accepts 3/8" socket. works every time.

i use one of these to take apart old carbs too. some of those pilot jets and whatnot can get siezed good and the hand impact tool works like a hot damn.

Lives in 🇨🇦 Canada but hates the metric system lol. I love it.

Ive been rippin the hell out of my 2.25, 153 like its a trail sled and not one torn lug. My old proclimb is geared a little high so track gets up somewhere around 80 mph. Great vid bud, I had a good laugh and now I feel cool for having nine fingers!

Couldn't have said it better myself!. Just turned 43 , and the sleddn in -27 don't happen anymore hahaha

Stripped Torx... you almost have to try for this to happen. Torx are made so they are a tight fit in the head, always make sure the head is clean and always use the tightest fit. If there is play in the head, it's not the right one. Get both SAE & Metric; I don't like metric either but if you want to do the job right.... That was a painful chaincase cover extraction to watch, I would have used vice grips, instead of trying to drill it out. You'd be shocked how practical a good set of vice grips is in dealing with mishaps like this, or like dealing with wore-beyond-the-skis, wear bars. 3" fn track... I'd have to get a tunnelectomy to install one of those.

I feel your your stripped bolt pain. After watching this vid I’m gonna pb blaster every single bolt and let sit over night.

I changed mine around the beginning of January. 12 M1100 turbo with the 162x3 it's the first track I've done and all i can say is there was definitely some major highs and lows lol. Didn't strip any of the bolts that hold the chain case on but i did position the break line wrong and the rotor cut a whole in it. All in all i am glad i was able to save some big bucks on shop rates. I got started around 7 pm and got out of the shop at 1:30 in the morning. I had whiskey so I'm not complaining😁

“IF” you can get on those torx bolts with a pair of vice grips, you can get them out. Chew them up but might work.

Those snap rings usually fly 20 feet across the shop never to be found again.

The old Polaris chain cases used self tapping screws but you would never know it unless you looked close at the end. The bolt was not actually round but trilobular in shape which is how it can self tap. Problem is you only get full three engagement at three points on the threads so the threads strip out easy. I always replaced the bolts with regular bolts then you can choose the head you want. Socket head cap screw or good old regular hex head.

Torx are an incredible fastener, they are highly resistant to stripping out. Don't blame the torx

just removed 6 torx from a transmission.. with a drill.. all 6 stripped. They are fine for fasteners that do not need a lot of torque to loosen after they seize with corrosion.

Snapped a bolt on my old mxz but luckily there was a "spare" hole next to it and i always save metric bolts from car projects so😅

Hey bub I just cut off my cog shaft and cleaned out the chaincase in the meantime. Sled is a 01 zr800 is there any upgrade or anything I can do to make it better to handle more power

Awesome vid dude 🤘🏻. Tackling a broken chain case this week on my xf. One good thing cat did was make tons of parts that work on a bunch of different series cats. But the self tappers and torx bits gotta go. 👍

Finally did! I messed with diamond drive for a while, there lots and took a bit to find the one I needed. But just got me a proclimb so bye bye ddrive!!

I would say polaris tracks don't do this because I've done 80mph on a 174x3 turbo and had no issues but my 155x2.6 is missing 3 lugs. My group has actually had really good luck with the polaris 3 inch tracks and they've taken some serious abuse but none of them have more than 2k miles

The thing i like about torx is they can easily be "one size fits all"

drop small one two sizes , use same chain , get more torque , plus its cheaper

Looks a lot easier than doing the same job on a 90s sled like an Indy... Less travel and shorter tracks worth a heavier skid.

A little heat to melt the locktite.

@@DIGIT9 ahh gotchya! I rode in sicamous a few times last season, you may have noticed me driving around, im the infamous snowmobile bandit with the crown vic that got plastered all over the news last year haha

I NEED HELP! I have a 1998 arctic cat zr 600, it is the carbureted model, not the efi. It will rev up to about 6000 rpm and it acts like it has a rev limiter. if I hold the throttle at wide open for a while it will eventually go past 6000 to about 7500 rpm. But if I take the belt off it revs up just fine, so it cant be a stator issue. It has to be a clutching issue right? It came with a polaris primary and secondary on it when I bought it aswell as a D&D billet aluminum helix. I don't know anything about clutches so any help would be appreciated. Thank you to whoever answers!

Turns out , that the dealer that changed the shocks forgot to put them in !!

Arctic cat uses chassis made by Yamaha so metric.

That track is 900+ in the stated there bud

What was once the standard is now the new metric.....

Why did they punch the centre of the track on the new tracks it’s not a Polaris center drive
