    @@ritterjon I don't have a snowblower, but I DO USE A COUNTERWEIGHT bolted to the inside of my bucket when I am using my Samurai Sabre sickle mower. The mower attaches to the right side of my bucket (looking forward) and is a bit heavy causing the tractor bucket to tilt right. To offset this I have bolted a counterweight to the inside left side of my bucket. Makes things much more stable, especially when cutting on a side slope.

    G'day Jon, the enjoyment I get from watching your channel and many others is immense. Being from Australia on the east coast where we don't get snow but plenty of humidity, heat and now heading toward another very dry summer. My family and I love the cold, but I can certainly see that a lifetime of clearing snow, icy roads, beautiful snow that turns to slush etc would wear thin like the endless heat and humidity does for us. Great channel I wish I had some snow clearing duties for my BX2680 , lol. Thanks, all the best mate.

    You could try using much thicker uhmw skid shoes as well as a little longer. I noticed your skid shoes are very skinny so that blower is wearing the right skid shoe much faster and you could eliminate that with a thicker and longer skid shoe.

  • @RossOnTheLand
    @RossOnTheLand Жыл бұрын

    Hey Jon! Thanks. How does your blower's hydraulic cylinder lift the blower? Mine is off to one side, and also notice it lifts my blower at a slight angle, regardless of the PTO is running or not, so I think the offset placement of the lift cylinder has something to do with it's angle as well. Maybe put one steel shoe on that one side so it doesn't wear as quickly?

  • @ritterjon

    @ritterjon

    Жыл бұрын

    My cylinder is smack dab in the center. Mine lifts perfectly level but once the PTO is engage it wants to lean to the right because of the torque. Someone suggested a counter weight and I think that might be the best idea so far. The newer style subframe you have has that cylinder off to one side and I've wondered it that would make a difference. I guess so. Keep on tractoring!

    Had my dealer order the 3rd function kit for my BX last week, and he's got a grapple for $1800 I'm seriously thinking of picking up. He also has a 48" rotary cutter for $1500 I'm thinking of getting. I asked about a flail mower...I swear out here in Idaho nobody knows what a flail mower is. When I finally explained it to him he said they aren't real common and extremely expensive...he looked one up and said about $7900...OUCH!!! BETSCO has one for $2500 shipped to my door, HMM, where on earth does Land Pride think their flail mower is worth 3x the cost. I will have to wait on the flail mower for a while, but I honestly think it would be a much better way to go...those rotary cutters just stick out way too far behind the tractor to use in a small space, and I'd need the front end loader installed for counter weight up front...no thanks. For a wide open field a brush hog/rotary cutter would be fine, but not for confined spaces. About $1200 for the 3rd function kit/installation. We shall see how things go with this, might see about getting the grapple and the rotary cutter as I've got a couple things in mind that it can be used on....and hopefully a few extra $$$ in my pocket from those projects to be able to afford the flail mower LOL. I need a larger tow vehicle before I go to crazy with stuff though.

  • @ritterjon

    @ritterjon

    Жыл бұрын

    Wow! $7900 for flail is downright ridiculous. You will definitely enjoy have that third function and at least the grapple your dealer has is reasonable prices. You might want to try and find some deals on used rotary cutters (brush hogs) However $1500 isn't too bad for a new one either. You know I agree with your thoughts on a flail and why it's better for a sub compact. Sounds like we have some of the same issues with tow vehicles. There is so much I'd like to have but my truck is only capable to so much. Keep on Tractoring!

  • @wildbill23c

    @wildbill23c

    Жыл бұрын

    @@ritterjon Yeah, the BETSCO flail mower for $2400-2500 I think it would be a great deal too. I won't buy used rotary cutters, in my area you find used cutters, but they've got blown out gearboxes most of the time as they're a very popular implement in my area, and unfortunately until you've overpaid for that thing, got it home and then found out you just bought a lawn ornament its too late....$1500 is a great deal for a rotary cutter brand new from the dealer...I think they're about the same for the 48" at Tractor Supply whenever they have any in stock. My 2008 Ford Explorer has a 7200lb tow capacity, with the 3.55 gears and the 4.6L V8 it struggles, so I need to find a pickup before I get too worried about finding side work LOL.

    Back when I lived in Illinois I had a pretty long driveway and I used my rear blade and when I got to the end I would scoop it up and dump it across the road for when the snowplow would come by. They had just started building a new subdivision so they had their equipment parked over in that direction. We hated the the thought of this mess anyway. They tried to take my front yard for their road but that didn't happen.

    Re: the uneven edge wear. I'm a big fan of the old Gravely walk-behinds. Even more so the less-old Kohler powered walk behinds. Those Gravely snowblowers had a caster option. I'm not sure if a caster on the right side just to take some of that torque load... a helping hand, so-to-speak... would alleviate that. I'm guessing it would. Now, we hardly get anything.
