    Yeah so many YT channels have good sound quality, but the mixing levels are freaking atrocious. It's not just about having a good mic for recording. If most of your video is at a normal listening level and other parts like intro and outro music are so damn loud and just barely below clipping that's not good sound mixing... And unfortunately way too many KZreadrs do it.

    Hey Arun, I was thinking that maybe you could do this every year, matching the current year's midrange phones against the flagships from 2 years ago to see how they would match agaimst each other. Kinda hoping you'd do this.😊

    Won't matter in another year or so. With many people getting free phones that can compete with correct phones... The high end reviews will become outrageous phones that less than 1% of people will actually use. Now in USA you can get a phone for free when 4 years ago the same phone would've been considered high end.

    I used to buy cheaper new models instead of older flagships until I bought a galaxy s7 in 2017 (around 1+ year after it came out). None of the cheap models I had bought lasted as much or remained in such a good condition, but my s7 still works great, which is why I went with a Samsung flagship again. And frankly the only reason I switched was bc I wanted more storage/better gaming performance and to be able to use the spen. If I were a more casual user I could see myself continuing to use the s7 as my main device.

    The S7 doesn't get security updates anymore, so it's really not a great idea to use it in 2021 (unless you go the custom ROM route). I'll be replacing my S9 with an S22 next year for that reason.

Even more now that processors are getting faster that the apps we use, cameras more than enough for photo or video and display (especially with samsung) are so good they are going to be that good for years

    Indeed, there are a lot of variables. I learned this the hard way within the last year - going both ways. In one instance, I had purchased a Galaxy S4 (as I myself was using an S7 and was satisfied with the quality) for $50 for an older, non-tech savvy friend, and only months later, the phone became dysfunctional - not a hardware or software issue malfunction, but the phone was simply too old to keep up with network requirements. So I got him a $40 Moto E instead, he's had no problems with it. On the other hand, I had to replace my own S7 because of similar problems, and debated whether to go with the S9 refurb or the slightly less expensive A70 refurb, and I chose the slightly less expensive, only to discover the importance of one particular thing (which he mentions in the video here): optical image stabilization, which I found much to my chagrin that the S9 has, and the A70 doesn't. It is a very big deal. However, it is also a pain to buy another refurb phone, and I just got an Tab S6 (which doesn't seem to have OIS but nonetheless takes sharper photos) so I guess I'll use that. So now I wonder, if I do replace my A70, should I buy the S9 like I intended or aim higher, like for the Note 9? But then the Note 9 has its issues, and the Note Ultra 21 is SO much better (but also out of my price range), so then do I wait two years to get the Ultra, or take the leap with the Note 9? Right now, I'm just enjoying the Tab S6, which is so much better than the Fire tablets I've used as stop-gaps since my Tab S (yeah, 2014) battery died last year, so much better than the Tab S too. (But then should I have gotten the 5se or the full 8GB S6? once again, I split the difference and got the S6 6GB)

  • @dfw4866

    @dfw4866

    I know I'm soooo late with this advice but I'd recommend you get the S9. Yh I'm way late. I had a similar dilemma as yours a few months ago and i decided to go with the s9+. Trust me, i haven't looked back. The only disadvantage is the battery life which I'm sure you obviously know about. Performance, camera, and just about everything else goes to the older s9+. And also you can root your phone so updates ain't an issue. I'm currently on Android 12 and will soon be moving to Android 13. The battery life is the only disappointing thing tbh

    Reasonable, and well thought through. I typically buy my phones phone during black Friday, or some 'after christmas' sale, just prior to new releases - because it's fairly easy to find very good deal on what soon will be 'last generation' hardware. For my parents though, I tend to recommend a new 'A-series' Samsung, because they've had Samsungs before and thus know their UI, and use some of their default apps. For whatever reason, the A-series Samsung phones seldom go on decent sale anyways, so I tend to get whatever is the newest that provide good value.

    There is a 3rd option, buying new old stock from 3rd party online retailers. I did this a few years ago with my LG G4. The G5 just launched and some retailers had to clear out old stock. I got the phone for quite a bit cheaper than its original listed price. In South Africa, our mobile operators even offer previous gen flagship phones on a 2 year contract at reduced prices...Sometimes even at the same price as current gen mid range devices... Which means you can get a new previous gen phone without the battery degradation and with a warranty included. The fact that you get it on contract means that you can choose between new previous gen or current midrange and still stay within your monthly budget. You will also have the added bonus of getting a data plan with your device, which is sometimes a nice added bonus.

My android phone that costs 400 dollars less than an iPhone 12 has a 4000mah battery compared to iPhone 12's 3600 or 3800 I can't remember, both of which are smaller anyway. I have a 90hz refresh rate display, iPhone doesn't. I have fast charging that doesn't heat my phone up to what feels like 50 degrees in your hand, with a charger I got in the box along with the phone mind you, also, expandable storage that iPhones don't have, oh and I also don't have to buy my own usb-c - aux dongle when I already paid a grand for my phone. No notch, in screen fingerprint reader and face unlock. iOS is the only thing that is ever so slightly better than android, but it also loses out to android in customisability, no third party apps, very few, almost featureless widgets that you can't place anywhere on the screen as they snap back into place at the top. Maybe, just maybe, you can argue that the top of the line iPhone 12 Pro Max can compete with both software and hardware, but you'd be paying double the price I paid for my phone and still have to pay extra for dongles and charging bricks lmao

    I hear that alot from Apple folks. Thing is people don’t realize that software updates aren’t important for android users. A 2017 Flagship and my dads budget galaxy phone which stop getting updates since 2017 can still download the latest and greatest apps like new. Apple actually sucks when it comes to software updates because ince support is gone, apps become “unsupported.” My ipad mini 2 is borderline useless. @John Martin Cantorne I agree with you. Back in 2017, my father bought a brand new Galaxy S7 Edge and he's still using it to this day. Sure, it's not the fastest phone anymore, has one camera only and is on Android 8. However, it still supports all apps on Google Playstore, and the phone is snappy enough for his basic tasks. The S7 Edge, to this day, is still a premium quality device if compared to the midrange phones of today.

    I went from an S7 to A71, initially it was okay but quickly realised major flaws here and there. Playing COD mobile BR was always crashing on the lowest graphic levels. Forced me to upgrade to S21 Ultra which I can honestly see myself using for 3 years like I did with the S7.

  • @MrAgentTurner

    This video is so great. It's the first time someone has so perfectly captured my dilemma; I could either go for a CURRENT budget phone, or buy an old flagship (a term I learned exactly one minute ago; as you can tell, I know almost nothing about phones. I've had the same one for over 5 years now). Even though I have the money to afford a NEW flagship phone, I'm not stupid enough to waste my money on that.
