Ғылым және технология

Before the wave of upcoming 2018 Flagship Smartphones, (Samsung Galaxy S9, Note 9, Pixel 3, iPhone 9 etc.) I used the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Xiaomi Mi5X instead - Which one is better?

    This video is a little rough around the edges, as we are moving to a newer (hopefully better) style of filming. Hopefully once this transition is made, we're gonna start making better videos even faster than we are now! 😄

    I agree with you! A lot of great devices were overlooked on 2016 for being too expensive, but now are really worth it! You can get a S7 edge for ~350-400 and. And tbh, their usability is still awesome because the Snapdragon 821 is a processor that really aged very well, not falling far behind it's sucessors in terms of performance, and still clearly ahead of the 600 series used in mid range phones.

  • @jeremykuyah914

    @jeremykuyah914

    Armando Azevedo exactly! Specs-wise, it's still slightly better, or still far better compared to a mid-ranger. But doesn't mean it's outdated.. and yes, with the current price, one would consider these 2016 flagships much more affordable or worthwhile. Not much loss/differences if we consider from specifications view.

    The Snapdragon 625 is nowhere near being a die shrink of the Snapdragon 800. Sure it's a 14nm SoC, but it's based on a completely different micro-architecture (Cortex A53, a much simpler in-order-execution design) while the S800 uses Krait 400 cores, which are slightly redesigned Cortex A15 cores from 2012. That of course doesn't change the outcome of the video but I think it's still worth mentionning.

    In the past I would always say go with the old flagship phone. It was always better. However, all these new Chinese phones make that trickier. Their prices are dirt cheap for decent phones. I'd still say get the Note in this example as it's display is better, camera is comparable, and has all the S pen features. Although, I'd get a new battery for it since the old one wouldn't last long. This particular Chinese phone is much better camera than most for that price range also. Very few flagship phones even have dual cameras. Could go either way between these exact two models.

  • @realitycheck1086

    @realitycheck1086

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yeah- no, old flagships are crap. OS/Build quality/Camera are all superior in newer budget phones. Battery is another biggie - what do you think happens to the crappy samsung battery after 5 years of non-use? Nothing good. Yep, lithium batteries slowly die even when they are not being used - so don't expect the battery life to be stellar or for the battery to last the number of charges it was designed for. Furthermore, you also have to keep in mind that mi a1 is not just a budget phone, it's THE budget phone of 2018. I have mi a1 - and its portrait mode kills any camera shots made from flagships released 2 years ago, let alone 5. The dual camera set up really was a great advancement, so you gotto give apple props for that - but the dual camera setup also makes single camera phones outdated - even if they were only released a few years ago. And again, keep in mind that mi a1 has a better portrait mode when compared to other budget phones from this year - so it absolutely destroys the single camera phones from the recent past (except, of course, the night mode - mi a1 takes horrible night mode pics)

    Hang on. You're forgetting. The Note 3 has higher versions of android available through custom roms. The Xiaomi Mi5X does have these too, but on a much smaller scale due to it being a newer device. Looking at XDA, currently there are very few firmware options. With the Note 3, you have options from gingerbread to oreo, and a whole pile of custom recoveries and kernels for higher clockspeeds, meaning that you could also get a little more power out of the note 3. Also, the note 3 happens to have a removable battery, meaning that you can get a larger battery for the phone, increasing battery life substantially.

Tommorow i'll get it back and i'm gonna keep it for a long time. Phone feels good and it's much better than my iP6 that i had some time ago. Also feels smoother and more reliable than my previous LG G6.

    I love your content Arun ! I recently fished out my old Note 4 to just use the S pen for digital art drawing (quarantine made me unable to get an iPad 7 with apple pencil, few months passed I might as well wait for new models to come). The screen may be sharp and vibrant, now it's so yellow and the ads are annoying. At that time it took really beautiful and vibrant photos. Now looking back and comparing to my Huawei P10 (yes I'm using an old phone but it still takes amazing photos in daylight, more so compared to my sister's p30 I feel 😂) The only reason I use my note 4 now is to just act as a spare phone, as a GPS for my sister and a digital screen drawing tablet (primarily for now). But hey it works and I manage to draw some stuff on it. I'm glad I got a note 4 for its stylus, who've thought that it'd come in handy today 😂

    I did this, bought older flagships a few years back. I got an S7 and I got my other half an S6 out of the US. It was brilliant. I think the S8 had only just come out. The phones were incredibly good value and gave us way better phones than we could buy locally for the same price. Sometimes it is the way to go. I seem to alternate between mid range phones and flagships both current or gen behind, it just depends at the time which way I go. Currently Note 10+, looking to get my partner a new phone and that could go either way.

Anyways I hope I get lucky as I did with my note 4 and btw my sister's j7 pro fell once and it's screen literally died instantly which got me realizing how old phones are actually great which is why I'm nervous from buying another one that is midrange..

    The Snapdragon 625 is so weak compared to the Snapdragon 636.. like in antutu is 70k Vs 115k! And you can find the redmi note 5 pro with that 636 for less than 200usd.. the 625 in 2018 is not midrange.. is really the low end...

    When my iPhone SE dies, I am planning on getting the galaxy note 4? Is it still a good phone in 2018? I want it for the entire package it brings: removable battery, expandable storage, s-pen, and it's gorgeous display

    Been using note 3 for roughly 5 years.., and the time finally come. It would stuck at 100% for an hour and died itself. Awesome perfomance at its peak. Gonna miss you. Switched to Note 10 now.

    I got my Oneplus 3T lightly used for $200. Snapdragon 821 (much faster than both the 800 and the 625), good cameras, 1080p amoled display, all metal build, and an official update to Pie is in the works. I don't feel like I'm compromising anything with it.
