I own the Susvara, and having owned 3 pairs of HD650/6xx I agree with you. Susvara is more all-round, but I haven't heard anything that beats HD650 listening pleasure, and the intimacy makes some music just sound like it was made for HD650.

One of the biggest things with studio headphones is almost every studio headphone has something it specializes in. There isn't really a "one headphone can tick all the boxes" there are some that get REALLY close and the Susvara is one such headphone. However even headphones like the HD 650 and 6xx (even the 58x and the HD 600) have their own strengths even being thousands of dollars cheaper. You have to find your own niche and what you like out of a headphone over testing many headphones. Then you can come to a favorite. Although something people will also find is that some headphones are just better for specific songs/situations than others. Which is one of the things that makes being a audiophile so difficult. You may have a favorite but it may not sound as stellar in one thing as it does another. Thus the dilemma of being a audiophile

Hey Sajid. I don’t recall which video you’ve mentioned this on but am I right in saying you use a dedicated preamp in your chain?

Now I love my 650 even more xD

I still have doubts about amplifiers. For example i use my Arya SE with Ifi Zen Can. If i upgrade to another solid state amp can i really see an improvement ? Why should i see an improvement ? How amp can affect the sound other than audible distortion which i definitely don't want.

1. Even solid state amps can color the sound. I know manufacturers and amp designers who can predict you how parts and circuitry and circuit design can add warmth or coolness to sound. There are threads on HeadFi you can find if you care to look. 2. Planars respond to high current topologies esp if they are harder to drive planars. The Arya SE is not particularly hard to drive. Amps and DACs do make a difference. I hope you get to try a variety of amps in your audio journey.

How much better would it sound with an mt-602 amplifier?

I have the HD 650 played through the headphone output of a Michi X5 I also have stax 007mk2 and stax 009 earspeakers with a mjolner audio carbon stax energiser . I have to admit the Sennheisers compare very well with the 10x more expensive stax duo and I use HD 650s quite a lot. The HD 650s are very light and comfortable once you get used to the clamping pressure .The Stax get quite warm with the leather pads , the sennheisers stay cool with the velvet pads . The stax are heavier also and you feel it where as the sennheisers have that super lightness all dayability which is why they are used a lot in studios . Ultimately the Stax have superior speed and micro detail , soundstage width and depth , they have the superior crystal clarity over the sennheisers .But they are much much more expensive .

My 6XX sounds wonderful off my Felix Echo II tube amp. As good if not better than the BH crack. Match made in heaven.

I already have Hifiman HE6SE V2 and Sundara. Should I get 6xx just for the wonderful mids? Or the two hifiman have good enough mids already.

Hi buddy, I'm planning to purchase an edition xs with chord mojo2 as my portable setup, however I'll be able to stream with only Spotify as other hi res streaming apps aren't available in my country, do you think it'll be good idea with aforementioned gear and Spotify. Just to mention I'm coming from a wh1000xm4 which are trash, and have no experience in the hobby

Interesting comparison. I actually have some HD6xx on the way, and was eyeing off a used Euforia AE($3700 AUD) before watching, as it’s just beautiful but hard to justify with current gear. Focal Utopia 2020 have gone on sale here for $3500AUD (~$2400 USD) and I’m very tempted to pick some up. Currently running MDR-Z1R off TA-ZH1ES and WM1A. You think that’s a safe buy, even with new model on horizon?

6XX does

I have the Woo WA33 ELITE with upgraded KR HP tubes and my HD650 vs the Susvara’s is not even close. The 650 has a darker sound more forgiving but just on the overall voicing the Susvara’s is a huge winner on my system. The WA33/KR HP tubes really sound like a Solid State amp no gooey tubes warmth hear. I use to own the Felix Euforia and paired it with the Focal Utopia’s and it sounded outstanding really helped the more in your face Utopia have a wider sound stage which I liked. Don’t get me wrong I agree with you the HD series is a really good value. But when you start getting into the higher end audio the overall system matching is vital. I have the Holo May KTE incoming and going to compare it to my Chord Dave. I also found the Violectric V281 was outstanding on any Sennheiser headphone from the 600 to the HD800/800S. I highly recommend that amp along with the Felix Euforia. I paired that stuff with the Schiit Yggy and it sounded great.

I have heard the WA33 Elite. I owned a Pass Labs XP 12 and XA25 and the Accuphase e800 at the same time and honestly, to me, both the Pass Labs setup or even the Accuphase blew the 33 Elite out of the water. Still the 650 held it’s own in terms of listening pleasure on vocals. Lol.

@@amplifyaudioreviews I was listening to both today and noticed that the HD650 had recessed vocals compared to the Susvara, to me the Susvara is very natural vs the 650 which sounds thin on my system. But you said the Susvara sounded that way which I am surprised. The only time it ever sounded like that when it wasn’t paired correctly with a amp. But like everyone on KZread all you need is the Topping amp. 🙈 if you are ever in San Francisco area let me know come by for a listen

Lol. I am not one of those who advocates a Topping amp mate. I have been a speaker amp guy for most of my life with the Susvara. Do check out my full Susvara review when you get a chance, on this channel. I have owned and driven the Susvara off Pass Labs XP12 and XA25, Accuphase e380, Accuphase e800, WA33 Elite. Etc Etc. You might want to try running the 6XX off the Euforia. Its certainly not recessed, its probably your chain. :)

Where would be the best headphones for a track like Heart Stairway to Heaven?

Yes the Susvara is better (It better be!!!) @ 30X the price of the 6XX. The real question is, “How much better and is it worth the price difference?” The point of diminishing returns is a real thing! That being said, I’m finally taking a foray into end game headphone territory with an Atrium on order. I think that they’re a more worthy comparison at less than half the price of the Susvara. We shall see…..

I tried Susvara recently, and I own OG Hd650, in my mind, let's say I give Susvara (a subjective) enjoyment score of 100 points (just for benchmark purpose), I will give HD650... a 60-65. As you said, Susvara is definitely better, but not 30x more enjoyable P.S: I dont have much eartime with Atrium, but I own Verite which I think... I can give (subjectively) solid 85 minimum. Atrium should be similar IMO

I had the 650, sold it and then bought the 6XX. For dynamics, I also have the Sennheiser HD800S, Focal Clear MG and the ZMF Atrium, etc… I still have the Sundara, love the Arya Stealth. Recently, a friend bought his Susvara to my place. We tested the headphones using my collection of DSD, FLAC, WAV, etc… with Roon via LAN to my Gustard R26 connected to the iFi Pro iCAN Signature. The Susvara is really the best in my small collection. I was planning on getting a pair of good bookshelf speakers with a speaker amp but now, I may live with my Creative T4 in my room and get a pair of Susvara.

I love Dave mustaine! Have you gave the new megadeth album a listen?

The K702 is a wonderful headphone. Completely different beast compared to the HD6XX. I own both and love them for different reasons.

I like the HD 600 more than the 6XX and if amped properly on a Tube amp the HD 600 can sound like a $1500 headphone

@@bradhuskers I had the Ananda Stealth Magnet for a day and would have kept it if I didn't already own the HE100se. I'd say the Ananda SM is the benchmark under $1K. Most in the Headphone hobby could probably be happy with the Ananda Stealth Magnet as an end game HP and call it a day. Your wallet will thank you

It still baffles me that not everyone has bought ZMF pads for that headphone. I strongly recommend the perforated suede for this one, it transforms it.

660s is just veiled and muffled mess, no treble extension at all... if you are not old enough, you should definitely hear what i'm saying? for me it's a garbage headphone, 6xx/650 is not much different too. they all veiled. 600 is better and imo its the best sennheiser.

@@saarsiboni6140 What is high-end then? is there a thing that proves if an headphone is high-end or not? hd6xx/650 and esp 660s is veiled cans, not a subjective thing. you may try to "fix" it with kilobuck dac and amps which is a hilarious thing if you'd ask me but anyways, they are veiled on a corectly working dac and amplifier that's a fact.

By the way HD650 are a bit warmer than HD 6XX ...

They both uses the exact same driver and materials except paint... what you hearing is difference of the pad wear which can effect the 6xx/650 the most among all other headphones. try using same pads when comparison. other than this, it may be due to slight unit variations, even hd800s has serious amount of fr response variation between units. some 800s sounds harsher while others can be more warm in midbass out of the box.

To each their own but personally I could never say vocals listening pleasure with 6xx is close to let alone beats the susvara. If the resolution is lacking my spoiled ears lose interest
