You mean particleboard. Plywood is simply cheap wood. Particleboard is pressed sawdust, etc... Can't make plywood with a press because plywood has actual grain and was a solid piece of a tree, however flimsy and sickly of a tree, it had a structure. Particleboard is the IKEA guff, so there is simply naming convention misunderstanding here.
would be interesting to test ikea flat pack furniture with the hydraulic press to see how much more flat it can be made.

That's why they sell compressed wood bricks. Back when we had a fireplace in house, we bought compressed wood bricks for burning and a single log lasted over 90 minutes.
Pretty close to the wood block for dooms day prep that I had suggested bit ago . Very awesome love how the compressed wood block the exterior rim grain wonder how much of a difference in the overall burn time and heat of your compress block compare to store bought.
You made particleboard, which is pretty tough stuff. If you had any glue, you could’ve came here on DIY particleboard and turned it into rock solid piece.

It would be interesting to see if the compacted wood pellet floats, or of wood floating is purely because of the air voids in the cells. (To ask the question another way, what is the density of a pure cellulose/lignin mix, with no air spaces?)
Lauri and Hanna y'all rock! Love the channel and content! Peace
Try using the press on cork, a reason it’s used in wine bottles is because it’s an interesting material where when you push down on it, it becomes thinner instead of wider making it great for pressing into bottles. What happens if it is pressed behind that?
Hey guys, I learned something recently thanks to a recent video on Vertasium's channel. When making concrete, silica is added to help bond rock with a cement mixture. So maybe if you added more silica to this experiment, you might get something more solid. Also, petrified wood, which is really rock and minerals, is created from an ancient tree being encased and buried underground. As the wood decays and rots, and over millions of years, the decaying wood slowly gets washed away and replaced by minerals carried there from rainwater. This is why every piece of petrified wood is different. In short, compressing wood to attempt to make rock was never going to work without adding minerals of some kind lol. Still a fun video. Keep up the hard work.

Would you be willing to add blood to fine sawdust and heat it under pressure? In books I've seen it as a material to replace gutta percha before hard rubber was around. Apparently in was used (idk how much) in all kinds of things from handles to picture frames.
Awesome video thanks for sharing

New format good
Can you crush steel wool into an interesting rock or art piece?
01:14 "All the way in, not just the tip"?? (giggle, giggle)
What an adorable couple they are!
What happens if you make concrete under pressure? Would the chamber explode or would it cure/ set like normal but be really strong? It might have to be more like cement because I'm not entirely sure how the aggregate would hold up but maybe with metal aggregate it would, or even wood? Like pykrete?
6:32 It's the ideal tool for making fancy, colorful icehockey-pucks. 😂
Send it to Taofledermaus, for a 12 gauge test😁
this is really cool!
love your channel :-)
You two crack me up!
That's quite a unique way to create Oriented Scale Board.
You turned some sticks into the fuel briquette. not bad. but it would be better to make a really solid briquette out of sawdust. Of course, many existing presses do this regularly, but I wonder how much pressure is needed to make its density close to a rock, not just oak (750 kg/m³). I guess 100t press would not be enough.
4:15 ... and Billy comes out! 🤭😂🤣
Love Hannah's giggles
can you try 2 Neodymium ring magnets pressed together north to north and a second one south to south then run over a magnetic film viewer to see the field a before film view will also be good to see the changes and maybe weight the magnets together before and after

Volvo sweden, in the 60's had a brutal accident where a man was cleaning the tools in the hydraulic press. He didn't shut the engine off and accidently passed the light curtains twice while having half his body inside the tool, you can guess what happened next.
Very impressive
Would be awesome to make a coaster like this
7:06 lmao. Whispers: doooonnnnttt break it.
I heard of densified wood which involves something like steaming, or solvent while you compress the wood, which actually does start to form something that reminds me of a polymer sheet. Pretty cool material. But there is some chemical or thermal ingredient.
Love it!
As long as you get the pressure high enough to heat up the wood fibres to above the melting point of the lignin in the wood fibres then you can essentially use the melted lignin to flow / form the wood fibres into a new shape like with your IKEA experiment. 🙂
Very Nice
Hey! It's the new Krüshen paperweight from IKEA!
the first one reminds me of these things you can buy instead of wood to put on your fire, I wonder how well it burns
Wax paper or freezer paper would probably actually turn into a solidified mass, the wax (or plastic on the latter) would flow under pressure and bind everything together. Basically anything that would flow under pressure would bind anything else together. Frosted corn flakes, for instance.
The wood blocks are sort of like the fireplace logs that are made from smaller wood pieces.
Hey! How about making the wood bolt puck again, then put it in a round mould and pour resin into it to seal all the spaces amongst the bolts and nuts.
Rood wock .. fire bricks 5000000
@HydraulicPressChannel
Жыл бұрын
Those could burn quite a long time :D
Using the nuts, bolts, and wood rounds make a longer (6+ inches). Fill in air pockets by placing it in a mold and covering with resin and use a vacuum chamber or pressure tank to remove air pockets. Once resin sets use a lathe to make something awesome.
Kind of curious of any water gets squished out of the wood products. And if so can that be siphoned off or can you put something in so when the pressure is turned off a new fluid gets sucked into it?
Lol i love this channel
I think this is similar to how wood pellets are made. The wood is put under pressure, which causes heat to be made and the lignin in wood to act as a glue. This makes a very hard and dense wood product, that is difficult to ignite bur burns very well. Keep it away from water.
Try a bunch of different colored wood and make really cool scales for knife making.
I think you could gather all the junk mail and paper garbage you have, press it, and then use those super dense pellets for fuel. Like brickets for grill or for chimney or even for sauna 💜
It was made to make me laugh thank you.
The noise he made at 1:45 while lifting a heavy thing is so relatable 😂
The guy that cleaned allat is a true legend
Congratulations! You created a particle board hockey puck!
In winter you can test out which will work good as hockey puck
Great video guys. Looks like pucks I put in my BBQ smoker. Cheers from Canada 🍻
You just created Shrapnel-hockey pucks. You know, shrapnel-hockey: where the pucks can send pieces of shrapnel flying in the players' faces at any moment. A bloody entertaining sport if you ask me! :D
Interesting spring back at 0:25 and 1:05 . I'll bet the spring back is reduced at each stage logarithmically, would be an interesting graph to see at maybe 10mm intervals.
The name is particle board. Its made the same way as you made it plus some glue! :)

"You know, I'm kind off a scientist myself." _[eats LEGO bricks to see the the literal _*_end_*_ result]_
i wonder if you could try dehydrating the wood before hand maybe you can make it more dense!
When you said "Shitpaper" I laughed my ass off
How long do you leave it in its compressed state before you release the pressure? I think would have better results if you let it sit longer with the pressure
Awesome. And funny.
Finally, the organic, biodegradable hockey puck we've all been waiting for.
“Now all the way in instead of just the tip” lol
This is why they used timber for pit props in mining, when it is compressed it slowly and consistently shrinks in height and becomes stronger, metal or concrete beams tend to suddenly crack and explode.
Just press various woods, metals, and Rocks into these disks, then put them in a vacuum chamber with epoxy resin, and then polish them. I bet they would look awesome.
Sawdust into wood chunks is actually a pretty decent way to turn waste sawdust into firewood.
Amazing!!!
You should see how long that wood takes to burn. Might have an awesome wood burning pellet!
Adorableeeeee!! 🧻🌲
