Camping in Rain with Bushcraft

Ойын-сауық

I got into the forest for a 2 night camping trip in a tent under a tarp. Heavy storm came in on the final morning. Made an amateur bushcraft tent platform and a dining table too. As usual my dog Bruce was at my side.

Absolutely loved this episode!! The Bushcraft work was excellent and definitely would love to see more. The shelter idea would really be awesome. That said, I believe lashing with paracord or tarred bank line is the standard in builds. Definitely interested to see how this progresses. Also can you do a follow up on how things have worked out with the truck tent you used a few months back. Did they have an answer for all the poorly taped seams?

I remember as a young girl in Girl Scouts camping using old WWII pup tents with 4 girls per tent. We had to dig trenches on each of the sides of the tent to keep the rain water from coming inside the tent. It was a week long camping trip, and mid week it started raining just like what you are going through. We soon realized our trenches were not deep enough, so had to take care of that in the rain. Everyone one got soaked, and it seemed as if nothing was dry. But we had the best time. That was over 50 years ago.

We went camping out overnight in Germany when the Girl Scouts when it started snowing quite a bit! All the fathers came out in military vehicles to pick us up but only the officer kids went home. The enlisted kids including myself stayed:) Ended up getting a case of frostbite on my feet but it was well worth it! That was back in 1969 and had a great time out there. So glad my Dad allowed me to stay!!!

My dachshund puppy has a not so secret fascination with Bruce. No matter where he is in the house as soon as you say Bruce’s name he comes running and sits perfectly in front of the TV. First time watching and I really appreciate how you show "mistakes and corrections" you make and when you question yourself. So many other channels only post videos about how things are supposed to happen. Also, I really like how focused you are on taking care of Bruce and how you never neglect pointing out the care he needs. Edit: Bruce calmed down because you put boundaries on him. Without them, he had to make his own decisions and got stressed out by them. The lead calms him because he no longer has to stress about the decision of what to do next. Instead of feeling bad about limiting him, when he stresses like that, just know that he actually feels reassured by knowing you're in charge.

Yes. It annoys me that so many of these KZread camping experts don't do it. There is a better way to set one up than this guy does though. Generally you want to put two opposite corners up and the other two down. This let's you choose which way the water drains. Away from the entrance of tent.

I've done subzero temps in northwest Montana and rain or snow you always include a tarp in your kit to cover your tent. Not only does it keep you dry but it also extends the life of your tent big time.

Hello Tony and Bruce!! So great to see you! We've watched several of your camping trips, and love it! Brucie is so adorable, I don't know how you stand it!! Thanks so much for including us all in your life, it is very kind and generous of you. Love the "amateur" bush-crafting! I'm writing this note before I've finished watching because I'm on my computer and can send a message, and my husband would not be happy with me! We usually watch your "shows" on TV and cannot type--no keyboard. I love the platform you made for yourself here with Brucie! He so loves you, and you love him. We started one of you and your wife in the camper that broke down, but are having a hard time finding it again. Your wife looks beautiful, and I certainly understand her shyness! I feel lucky to have watched your first Bushcraft build for camp. Don’t minimize your Bushcraft skills to Steve’s. You did great. The platform is the perfect solution and you won’t have to take it down. Sorry you didn’t get to sleep so well the first night. And I just have to say it. “Now that’s a knife!” Hahaha. Maybe you can dig a hole and keep the fire below ground and or surround by big rocks and a fire reflector. Again, a chance to use your Bushcraft skills as well. Of course you would make the right decision. You are correct that everything tastes better when your camping. I was also curious about the bag you had and it made me laugh when I read it. Beautiful views in your own backyard. Love to see Bruce enjoying himself. He likes camp cooking a lot. Great news about being able to go wild camping again. I think by the river would be nice. Whichever you feel like at the time. Thanks and see you and Bruce next time. Stay safe and be well.

Love your bushcraft setup. You complained about how cold it was getting. Why did you make Brucie sleep outside. Broke my heart when you did.

I found your channel a couple of nights ago, so have been binge watching. Love your content..You are becoming like an old friend to people on here, so natural. Love the cooking also. Hey listen, on one of your other video's I heard you say that somebody said that your dog does not look happy, or he is cold etc..Your dog is a sheep dog, he is a working dog, and is designed to be out in the nastiest of weathers. We in Yorkshire England have sheep dogs to heard sheep, and believe me it gets freezing up here in England. Your dog has a wonderful life..A dogs dream to be honest. Out in the outdoors, exploring, you playing with him, whoever makes complaints obviously know's nothing about animals. Anybody watching can see how much you love your dog. You are also feeding him just right. I used to have two Labs..They had one meal a day, in a large bowl..They never got fat as some labs are prone to putting on a lot of weight. I used to feed them, raw veg, chicken and pasta, or minced beef and pasta, and two raw eggs a week for their coats.Just keep enjoying Bruce's company..My labs have passed now a few years ago, and still miss them. Make the most of your dog, nothing like it.

I enjoyed seeing your platform build. Since this appears to be a semi-permanent install and it’s so close to your home with lots of dead wood, I’d bring up a jerry can and fill it with rain water from your tarp. You could leave it in place for other fires in that location.

I am a girly girl and usually my type of camping is in a hotel 😂 but if I had this type of set up I could see giving camping another go. You certainly aren’t scrimping on your dining, looks delish. Brucie is in heaven.
