Camping in a VOLCANO 🌋 Craters of the Moon

Craters of the Moon National Monument in central Idaho is a vast ocean of lava flows with scattered islands of cinder cones and sagebrush. Most people see only a small, developed section of the park. Complete with rv hookups, a visitor center, signs, bathrooms. But that's a very very very small part of this landscape. The Craters of the Moon wilderness is 750,000 acres of undeveloped and untouched volcanic landscape. Backpacking in this wilderness I was able to really appreciate Craters of the Moon and how weird and scenic it is.

    The drone flight was done outside the park, north of the highway.

    Your shot with the campsite near dead tree(widow maker) was incredible, especially with the lightning…

    I've always been curious if it's as windy in Boise as it is in Central and Eastern Idaho my gosh I had no idea the wind was the blowing all the freaking time it's the only negative thing about the State that I can think of maybe the clouds in the winter time!

  • @JonConti

    Southern Idaho, ya the corridor here in central Idaho at Craters is super windy. Boise being in a valley is protected and I feel once you go North and you're in the mountain ranges the wind isn't a problem.

    Any explanation for what the **** is on the upper left at 4:15? Either that was some sort of atmospheric fluke or you're the only man to ever capture a supernova in real time - props.

    Born in CA but going to school in NC. When i would tell people in NC i was going to ID, usually in the winter to ⛷, just about everyone would react as ‘why the hell would you want to go there?!?!’ Seems like no one out on the East Coast knows anything about ID what it has and what to do there. They know it has potatoes. Im kinda ok with that. I love CO but now its a zoo. Id like to keep ID from becoming CO.

  • @JonConti

    @JonConti

    CO and ID are polar opposites politically so unless our entire state government top to bottom changed that's impossible. If Idaho were to look anything like a bigger state counterpart it would be Texas.
