There are soo many options when it comes to camp lighting these days, from permanent lights to portables solutions, it’s hard to distinguish between good quality products and cheap knock off’s.
In today’s video I talk about each of the lighting options I have used on my Toyota Landcruiser 200 series to light my camp setup. From permanent, semi-permanent and portable lighting, we go over my setup and the pro’s and con’s of each lighting type.
This video is necessarily a review on each of the lighting product, more a video to provides ideas on what type of products have worked well for me over the years in attempt to provide useful information to you to save some money.

    I've settled on the Nilight LED pods. I"m currently building out a portable ham radio station, and one of the things I'll be designing into the battery box will be outputs for a pair or 2 of those in the flood configuration, to be mounted on poles and/or under my dining canopy, which will double as the radio station. Solar charging combined with silence is sometimes preferable, as the cost of white gas has gone through the roof, and that's what all my lanterns use.

    Great review Nathan. I’m using 4 adjustable light force rock 20, one on each corner of the roof rack which gives great camp light coverage without being over powering. In the tailgate I also have another 2 fitted to the corners of the front bar which are good for tight tracks in the dark. In the tailgate I have a dual colour strip led light that works real well with the ability to be either white, red and orange. The led lights on the underside are a cool idea.

    @@TheOpenCriticalmind Hey mate, glad you came across the channel and hopefully some of my videos might be able to help you out. So the rock lights serve two purposes for me, firstly I primarily use them for ambient camp lighting. They provide a nice soft light when you just need to see around camp. Secondly they are also great when night 4WD'ing. When stuck in technical situations, being able to see exactly where and what the wheels are driving over can be very helpful. They are waterproof and should be just fine in all situations, provided they are installed correctly. Don't get me wrong, these are awesome lights, but definitely not a necessity for a touring vehicle. Cheers, Nathan.

  • @XploringOz

    I guess the only way to avoid this would be mount lights that protrude further out from the rack. rock lights or lights with no diffused lens just cause tons of glare and eye strain. nobody talks about glare, diffusion or amp draw. look at marine lights for better diffused lights that have low draw.

  • @XploringOz

    @XploringOz

    3 жыл бұрын

    For sure, with any camping light, glare is often prominent with lights that aren't mounting directly above (like a standard room light). However, I haven't found glare to be an issue when out camping. Although there might be a little, particular from the Lightforce ROK9's, it hasn't been enough of an issue to ever cause a drama out on the road. The only reason that I haven't commented on the amp draw is because all these lights draw so little power. I could leave all of my lights on for an extended period of time and it would make little difference to my battery situation. I guess each light has their own spec's for those who are interested in purchasing.
