Good honest review, well done. To many reviewers are biased in their videos, understandable given many are sponsored. Still it's refreshing to see an honest opinion.
Great commentary on your experience with that base, with all the plus minus points. 👍
Very fair review. The software is the weak link for the road details. Shipping can be cheaper if you locate the distributor in your country. I have the full GT1 package (base, wheel, 3 pedals). I did sea shipping for under $1k USD. Best bang for the buck. I was coming from a Thrustmaster TMX Pro and this is amazing in comparison.
That was a thorough job, excellent review. Off topic but I would love to see a review on your Leo Bodnar , how does it hold up vs today's equipment etc. Anyway keep on keeping on , great channel.

What an amazing review!! It covers all aspects significantly. Yes there is some things that you should've mentioned, like your resonating problem that you faced. But all in all it's a great review 👌 putting everything where it should be.
@SimRacingCorner

I worked out the resonating, it was the road effect FFB in AC that I was able to turn off, and it's fine after that. It wasn't fair to bring that up, as it's a game thing. I also found I could create the problem with my Leo Bodnar. So can't blame the Cammus on that. Though still curious that the Moza and CSL DD don't suffer from this.

Forget about the wheel, what a nice graphic setting you have there. One of the best lighting setup, if not the best. And I follow other fellow SimRacers. I was hoping you left your PC specs in the description.
The whole point (for me) of direct drive is the fine details which are lost in belt drive units. Power isn't really that important to me, I only weigh 50 kgs.Informative video thanks.

Nice video, very informative, did you try this wheel recently ? are any improvements on drives/firmware about the damping effect over the year that this review was made? I live in Brazil, here most import product have a dollar to BRL conversion from 1 to 10 (officially is 1 to 5, but after taxs is most close to 1 to 10), and I recently came upon a Store that are selling Cammus products for a fair price, the 5nm is around 3k BRL, the 8nm around 3.5k and finally this 15nm for 5.5k (the last two only the base), for comparison the Mozza R5 is 4k and Fanatec 5nm is 6k, only base and since these twos are using proprietary quick release they become a lot more expensive. I'm really interested to buy the Cammus 8nm, because they seem very consumer friendly, I cant use any standard 70mm bolt pattern steering wheel or quick release and thats huge for saving money, I hope they improving on all the points you made during this review.

Great review, this base is flawed and just seems like a cheaply made unit that is not worth it. Switched from a CSL DD to a SC2 Pro and it such a joy to drive, you get the required force while keeping the details. Your Leo Bodnar is probably pretty similar... such a nice industrial unit !

Wow $205 USD shipping fee from Cammus direct to California, United States. That is pretty crazy. The heat spreader part that was loose is concerning as to why they don't affix it properly, it makes me think that they are cutting corners in manufacturing and assembly.

The buttons and rotory encoders on the wheelbase are cheap. I've used the same building button boxes for personal use. If Camus cannot put a decent button on the wheelbase, then I question the quality. The wheelbase mount looks like it was hit with chainmail (lots of dings). Thank you for the video so we can all see!

The mount did arrive with some paint chipped knocked off it, that was poor. Cammus gear does seem to be pretty rough, it's a reflection of the low price point. Unfortunately, there are a bunch of reviews out there that rate this product higher than they should. I definitely feel my review is more realistic.

I haven't used the Cammus since this review, so I can't say for sure. I don't have high hopes, I got mine a year after it launched, so it wasn't exactly a new product by the time I received mine. I don't think it's a software issue, I think it's the result of the cheap motor they use.

@@zoobi27 well I had the Cammus 15 for a couple weeks well until a couple of days ago actually. In my testing I absolutely loved it in ams2/AC was good/DirtRally2.0 was great and is now recognized in the sim automatically. Also works great in ATS and ETS. I only traded it in because I realized they also had vrs direct drives there. Still waiting for VRS. But I was just concerned with longevity of the Cammus due to some of the problems people were having. Yes they did address some issues. Now that I have the vrs, I'm hoping to never need to ever upgrade again as it has such a proven motor and decent refined electronics battery etc and simple good software. The Cammus was such a great deal and I did love it.
I just bought the doyo keteng t88 direct drive wheel. Unfortunately there is no information or software download links. I can map it in game and it feels pretty good. CSL DD 8Nm gets hot to the touch, you can fry an egg on it. So much for heat sink. The internal electronics might be a problem down the road if too close to the enclosure. Fanatec has shady firmware and hardware including their support dept. Id take this cammus with a built in fan all day any day.

My alpha mini has been amazing. It's built like a tank and works great.
The lack of details in FFB is most likely a software and programming issue, not a hardware issue... i m worried bout the monthly electricity bills with these DD wheels....how much power consumption is required for these things?
@leoalex2001
Жыл бұрын
Alot.. but normal wheels also use tons of power..
Why are you using 100% inertia? you should only use an amount that reduces some of the oscillations, more than that will do exactly what you described, making rotation sluggish and making subtle details harder to feel. On top of that, i assume your omp wheel is not on the light side either, so the physical wheel has its inertia on the high side too.
@SimRacingCorner
Жыл бұрын
It's a fair question. I tested the inertia setting from 0 and upwards. It made no difference to the wheel at all. I have a number of different wheelbases, so I'm fully aware of what that setting should have done, and seemingly does absolutely nothing here. Do you have a Cammus? I'm guessing not.

Definitely, I get what you're saying, you made a good observation that was worth questioning.
I know this is all subject to opinion and I respect the time you put in. I would say ACC is the best feeling FFB for the Cammus. It feels well waited with plenty of detail, so much so I am trying to replicate that FFB into other paltforms. RF2 feels very distant through the cammus, I do agree with your opinion of the wheel feeling different between games. But I have to say I get all the detail in ACC straight out of the box. I have been running 15nm but a 20 minute race is a full on work out. I plan to reduce that. Thanks for the tip on the heat pads I shall check mine today :)
Were the fine details improved with some updates, since this review?
@SimRacingCorner
7 ай бұрын
I haven't retested the Cammus since the review (but I do plan to at some point). But a couple of things. I had my unit 1 year after launch so it had plenty of time for the drivers to be updated. Drivers can't change any limitations of a motor, which I what I believe is the cause of the poor detail.
@piereligiodisante
7 ай бұрын
@@SimRacingCorner there are people who think it might be software because on some games it has sharper detail (like iracing). Also, I've seen a lot less complaints about it in recent reviews (only the ones that came out together with yours pointed that out), but no one that said explicitly if it was changed with an update
@SimRacingCorner

@@piereligiodisante In this review, I describe the FFB from several games. FFB detail/quality output varies from game to game, regardless of the wheelbase. That's just a fact, some are better than others. It's why I test across several games in my reviews, and not a single title. Some reviewers don't. And be aware some reviewers don't have the experience of reviewing as many wheelbases that I have. When I get a chance, I will revisit the Cammus and I will run out a video. Maybe I'll be surprised, but my expectation is, that the result will be the same as before.
@piereligiodisante

@@SimRacingCorner the fact is that if in a sim you can feel the road texture and in some others you feel it less, you can always in theory apply post processing to boost the high frequency FFB signals.
