Cambodia Street Food - Authentic KHMER CURRY FEAST and Vietnamese Pho in Phnom Penh!

One of the best Khmer food curry meals I’ve ever had!

Orussey Market is one of the best and most local markets in Phnom Penh, and for any food lover, or shopping lover, it should be high on your list of places to go when you’re in Phnom Penh. There are other markets like Central Market and Russian Market, but Orussey Market tops them all.
One morning we headed off on a Cambodian street food tour of Orussey Market. I first wanted to explore the outside area of the market. One of the most popular stall we came across was actually serving pho, famous as a Vietnamese noodle soup. The crowd eating there and the aroma of the broth forced us into sitting down to have a bowl and it didn’t disappoint. The beef pho was excellent, one of the best bowls I’ve had in a very long time. Pho - 8,000 KHR ($1.93) per bowl
Inside Orussey Market you will find just about everything in Cambodia that you can think of, from clothes to food to accessories, it’s all in the market somewhere. We headed to the food court area, but there wasn’t a lot going on, so we decided to just have a cup of iced coffee.
My hopes for lunch were on a Khmer rice and curry feast, and so we kept walking around the market, until we stumbled into a prepared curry dishes stall that had an amazing array of different Cambodian dishes. It was a love at first street food kind of place.
We proceeded to order a huge Cambodian street food curry feast and it was one of the best Khmer meals I’ve ever had. I can’t even begin to tell you the names of all the different dishes, but the prahok, a paste made with fermented fish sauce, was excellent. Total price for entire Khmer curry meal - 50,000 KHR ($12.09)
On the outside of Orussey Market you’ll find lots of Cambodian street food snacks. I was pretty full honestly after that curry meal, so I just had a bag of candied and pickled bright colorful fruits. They were topped in a sugary chili salty coating, and though a little sweet for me, they were pretty awesome. Fruit bag - 3,000 KHR ($0.73)
If you’re a food lover in Phnom Penh, take a trip to Orussey Market for some amazing local Cambodian food and culture!

Hi Mark! I'm a Cambodian living in Ohio, USA. I just want to let you know that we don't eat the scale of the grilled snake head fish coz it's kinda hard. But it's gonna be crispy if it's deep fried 😊 And for the raw prhok and fermented fish with pork and egg are salty so, you gotta eat a bit amount and dip it with veggies. Anyway, thanks so much for sharing your experiences from my homeland.

Mark, you should also visit Siem Reap. Most of our old traditional cuisine is hiding there in the country side of Siem Reap such as Prohok, girlling chicken in the bamboo, Ah Mok. Moroever, I would also recomended you to visit Kean Svay Resortt, it located near the Phnom Penh city. It has variety of foods stall that sell a lot of delicious foods that will give you a mouthwatering experience. Probably, you will be excited with the natural landscape over there. You can also ride a boat after you have done eaten your meal, because there is a large stream close to the market. The foods is cheap and you just spend some money to rent a bungalow to sit and have meal.

Yes! Mark! This is the right way to eat it. With all those wild herbs, it have the medicinal properties to sooth the stomach inner intestine especially if we consumed this way. In modern chained restaurant, the "PHO" is likely garnish with bean sprout and coriander leaf only . The restaurant will definitely forgo the green garnish:- spring onion, cabbage, wild herbs leaf or baby leeks. But without this few more add-on green garnish it will be incomplete. People who ate a lot of processed food with sugar content. The common symptom are bloated and flatulence which causes by poor digestive system. This herbs really help to stop that.

I"m Cambodian-American. I've never been to Cambodia, but I love the "prahok" that my mother made for me when I was a little girl. My brothers, on the other hand, did not like it at all. I'm glad you've enjoyed it too, Mark! I also like how your friend, Joel, was interacting with the Cambodians in the background. Very good :)

I love this. I love your videos and travels. I can't wait to visit with my family. Just a side note, It's not Vietnamese pho. There is a difference. I personally prefer the Cambodian style and they don't call it pho, its called Kathio. Not sure how to spell that but it's not pho. Both are delicious but Cambodian kathio is just so much more flavorful to me. That's probably why you said it was one of the best you've ever had 🤔😋
