I'm actually at a loss for words in trying to convey just how sweet this engine sounds as it's going through the gears. We have a '69 Camaro DZ 302 in the family, and as much as I hate to admit it, this one sounds even better. Excellent job as usual by the talented staff at Nelson Racing Engines. Thanks for sharing your 'ride' with us!!

+Shannon Kinchen Don't fret, first time I watched this video I was still in the midst of trying to find a 69 at a reasonable price. Looked for over a decade. Finally snagged a decent driver condition 69 last Friday. Bide the time, stack the cash. :)

@Whitey Powers I have tried to find out just how many z-l1 vets were built or even sold during that era the records or very sketchy maybe 4-6 were built to test and beat on other than that who knows, and the copo folks at gm prob weren't thinking about how rare and expensive these cars were going to be today and its really not about the car its the 427 that racers wanted, any engine that could put out that kind of power and weigh less than a 327 was gobbled up by anyone who could afford it. The real ? is how many engines not cars were built? I have seen and heard of that engine in everything from boats to cars. If I were you I would be driving that car to all the shows.

  • @Mr762308

@Whitey Powers A ZL-1 and a L-6 wow man the vet alone unrestored you could retire add the 70 chevelle ss that's what I call fuk u money, you really need to research what these cars are worth unrestored unless you already have done so especially the vet the last time I checked the zl1 vet was 800 thousand to a million restored, both of these cars are very rare, and their are so many people out there who are addicted with trying to find these cars and pay big $$, I watched Steve McQueen's Bullitt hero car being sold for 1.5m and that car was just a 390 s code mustang but just because Steve drove that car made it worth over a million, I am not a ford man but that car was rare just like both of your Chevy's I hope you do keep and restore these two power houses, wow man just plain wow you have a good one and try and stay between the ditches.

I'm 61 yrs old and had one of these back in the day. It's so nice to see someone who can go through the gears smoothly if they want to. I'm sick of hearing "drivers" that (when trying to shift smoothly) chirp the tires (sliding) by not having enough rpm when they shift. It's like, "Damn son, if you can't beat that sell (or give) that car to someone who can drive"! What a waste! If you want to see that car for 3 or 4K let me know! In fact, I might take several at that price! :-) Stan in N AL

I'm digging the OEM look. I bought my uncle's 69 SS with a 427 BBC. We built a nasty 496 and fixed it up to look stock, similar to this.. It also has a hidden direct port nitrous injection system and it's made me alot of money on the streets. They know what's up when I strap my go pro on the roof and purge the nitrous. They know they f****** up

Like I said in my other comment, the front of the heads give it away, but other than that, as far as appearance, he did a first rate job in makin' it look like the little 302........but this thing will eat any 302........and many other BIG motors for that matter. I just love a normally aspirated engine. ALL MOTOR. No frills......no turbo's.......just RAW MEAT. Dig it.
