camaroguy 66 you do realize this car is built to drive on the road right? 1/4 mile cars get frequent tear downs and rebuilds. Tom builds street engines that will punish virtually everything else on the road, and he builds them so they are reliable.
Nice build! I'm running a 572BB with 650T and 742HP and it's a handful when you launch it. I couldn't imagine launching that monster. Love it!!!!

its amazing to see so much space from manifold to hood w/ 2k hp
I do tend to agree that Tom seems to be one of the best engine builders in the world. I would definitely choose NRE to work on mine or build me one. His engines are a work of art and genius. You can SEE how much he loves his job when he tests them. Not that easy to get a monster engine like that to idle that smoothly. And he's certainly not stupid. Probably pays more in taxes than most people make in a year. I think that one person complaining about Tom racing in the streets is entitled to their opinion but perhaps a bit overzealous about it. Tom is certainly NOT racing in the streets just hammering the throttle every now and again. Like a kid with a new toy. Don't blame him. Must be a real natural high. And it does look like he goes out of his way to stay out of the residential areas and confine his joy/test rides/drives to the industrial areas. Perhaps that one person complaining had a very bad experience with people actually racing in the streets and maybe even losing a loved one because of it. It's hard to tell where people are coming from sometimes. You don't know the circumstances. Or maybe just a jealous competitor dissing Tom. For me, personally, I hope Tom stays in business a long, long time and the heck with the detractors. And no, I'm not affiliated with NRE. Wish I was.

Mr. Nelson....love your videos !! As far as people ripping you for having a little fun on the street.....I can tell you are a competent driver and are not being reckless in what you are doing. Sure it may be breaking a few laws but if I had that kind of horsepower I would have some fun too. If I'm ever out your way, I'd love to see your new shop, engine room, and chat with you. Absolutely love the car, finished or not. But the interior idle sounds remind me of the paranormal activity movies right before something happens
Ever since 1981, when my parents bought me a 1970 Chevelle...for $200 lol....too drive to and from University, Chevelle has been my all time bloody favorite muscle car! I LOVE the bucket seat models with the center console and that square shaped shifter, that I believe Chevy put in their other muscle cars with the bucket seat, automatic package. I even installed an 8 Track player in it and, used my box speakers from my record player/stereo and 6" by 9" speakers in the back shelf....the type that faced forward and we're not mounted flush lol. I loved my music and my badass car! I would love to get another but, I would have to be bloody wealthy now to afford to buy it plus, drive it as I immigrated to the UK 15 yrs ago! Saw 1 for sale for £37k and another for £45! FAR FAR from $200 now lol. All I can do....unless I win the lottery or something....is look and dream but, if I did win, for certain I'd buy me another bloody beast!

The best drivers in the world make mistakes and die in controlled places called drag strips and race tracks. On public roads life has this habit of throwing the unexpected at you, speeding and loose barely hooked up that unexpected quickly becomes an unavoidable accident. Tom is a great engine builder and a competent driver to be able to keep the car pointed while it is skating under that torque. Still no matter how you look at this doing it on active public roads with traffic is irresponsible.

Not too mention the possibility of a small human or, even an Adult OR, someone's pet could venture out in the road, a good distance from where that car...or others...Picks up that helacious speed and, sadly someone or, something gets killed AND, just maybe the driver. I'm ALL for speed but, not in neighbourhoods. It's a wonder no one calls any Law Enforcement. I was just thinking...man he's leaving a LOT of rubber on that stretch of the street. Not too mention, he is kind of breaking the Law....speed limit is probably 25mph...maybe lower. Find a long, isolated straight stretch of road and, that even allows you to drive the car even longer lol.
I love it when you said you'd do a test video because everyone is giving you to much 5HIT for dyno videos..lol. You rock man:).
Beautiful work. All of the issues that normally plague Hotrodders have been conquered with such apparent ease. That is the sign of a true virtuoso: showing genius performance yet making it look as if any idjit can do it. That is THE finest running motor of its kind I have ever EVER encountered. The rest of the craftsmanship follows suit...unreal, effing off kilter...I'm gonna go rethink my life, Thank you for that ride along!
why just 2 gears?

That's a drag racing setup. A quarter-mile car doesn't need that many gears, especially with the torque that that car is putting out.

@albertgaspar627
6 жыл бұрын
The Powerglide isn't the only strong automatic trans, there's the Turbohydromatic 400 and Mopar's Hemi Torqueflite 727. What the Powerglide offers is a first gear with a numerically low first gear ratio, 1.48 versus the 2.48 of say the TH400. When you have a big engine making a lot of torque at launch, the steeper 2.48 first gear of a 3 speed will just blow away the tires, while the 1.48 is only multiplying it 1 and a half times. You get a cleaner launch, and yet can run a steep rear axle ratio so that you keep the RPMS up in the higher gears of the transmission. To not blow the tires away in a 3 speed automatic, you would have to run more highway/economy gears, and that would lose multiplication once the car has overcome inertia.

Well fuck, why not say fuck instead of F-bomb? I wasn't aware of any mandatory internet censorship. I personally think it's a nice change of fucking pace for once. I mean for fucks sake why not talk like you normally would instead of censoring yourself? It makes it seem a hell of a lot more realistic, rather than some toned down bullshit. If I want that kind of shit, I will check out "family" oriented shit, or disney something. If you don't like the language, change the channel, trying to censor, or shame people into self censoring is bullshit.

I'm being sincere.If you read some of my latest comments with someone else who posts here,i think Mr. Nelson is quite reckless and foolish drag racing on the city streets.You are very wise that he should take it to a better place where it is more safe or to a strip.I have a feeling he doesn't want to tear up his customer's cars when he finally get's traction,ie,driveshaft,transmission or rear end.

9 camarocowboy That's drag racing? It looked to me to be some low to medium speed burnouts in Chatsworth's Industrial center. I didn't see two cars side by side with the wheels in the air, hitting upwards of 190mph, which cars today can do and which most people would call drag racing. If he did tear up those parts, since he was the one to fabricate and build those parts, I don't think he's worried about doing so.

Also owned a 68 firebird with 330hp yz code 400/th400, and 373 12 bolt.. This was all back in the day when it took work to make an honest 350hp street car,lol. I'm 52 now, and an astounded what technology has brought to the table..
