I remember these commercials from the 90s. I worked at Mickey D’s for two months during the summer of 1998 when I was 17. It was the most disgusting job I ever worked. I also experienced the most freighting moment of my life there when we were robbed early one morning.

Actually it shows Calvin as a young man getting opportunities and advancement. The sad thing is. I’ve seen how McDonalds mangers get treated and all they have to put up with. It’s really sad. McDonald’s is big business. It’s possible that Calvin could have owned a store later on and then maybe bought one or two more stores. Maurice : Hey, I started out mopping the floor just like you guys. But now... now I'm washing lettuce. Soon I'll be on fries; then the grill. In a year or two, I'll make assistant manager, and that's when the big bucks start rolling in.

Getting a job for a young black man at McDonald's is a huge thing, they're all surprised and happy, as if no one else has a job in the black neighborhood and we just assume they're on government assistance. You have a point but at this point these ads have failed because inner-city mcdonalds restaurants are managed and staffed by Latinos creating a barrier of entry for blacks today.

How long would it take calvin to save up $500,000 to open his own mcdonald's on a manager's wage? Assuming he makes $20 (generous) he would need to save every penny he earned for over 8 years.

I was looking for the Chappell skit and ran into this for the first time. Not sure which one is better now. 😂

I don't recall seeing this commercial back in the day. I'm here because I recently saw this for the first time in a documentary about crack on Netflix. This Netflix doc has a lot of ex-crack dealers in it, and one of them says "F--- Calvin, I want to make some money." Then this former dealer compared the thousands of dollars he made per hour to the $3.35 minimum wage that jobs like Calvin's were paying at the time. Now I'm glad that I didn't see this ad in the early 90s. I was looking for a job then and wasn't really successful because the economy was so messed up. Had I seen this in those days, I would have cringed!
