Calorie Diets Could Extend Life Span And Delay Disease, Researchers Say | NBC Nightly News

Calorie restriction diets, which in some cases involve eating 50 percent fewer calories than the recommended amount for active men and women, could be the secret to living longer and healthier, researchers say. New studies are building a case for the diet’s benefits, but medical experts haven’t reached a consensus.

One does not have to go hungry when they reduce caloric intake. It is simply a matter of eating foods with low caloric density. It so happens that these foods are also usually whole foods that are very good for you.

I've been on a CR Diet for about 15 years now (I started when I was 18). It improved my health a lot and I intend to continue doing it until we have something better. Currently, there is a lot of work and money going into longevity research (look up SENS and senolytics), so I'm hopeful in the next 10-20 years we'll have better things available. But CR isn't that hard for me anyway, I eat around 1500-1600 k/cal per day, and happy doing it!

I agree! I see so many patients die because of cancer and none of them ate a healthy diet. Our diet is more important then we treat it. Most people dont even know whats healthy and what is absolutly not healthy. How did u know how much calories to take ?

@@itsyourmethod Most figure out how many calories they normally need by figuring out when they stop losing weight or gaining weight and then subtract maybe -20%. I noticed that most men on CR do from 1700 to 1900 calories a day.

There are so many doctors now that follow the optimal nutrition/calorie restricted diets that don't call it like it is. I can follow Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Dr. Neil Barnard, Dr. Goldhammer, their patients are doing this diet and yet they don't say anything about calorie restriction. Haha 😆

This is totally NOT something that should be researched BEFORE researching if asking someone out on a date slows aging EVEN WHEN being told no. There's likely a disturbingly BIG amount of people that DON'T ask people out on dates that are SAD AND LONELY! Anyway I'm 5 foot 7 and 130 lbs. so no weight problem because of a fast metabolism SO I enjoy eating and find this research TOTALLY NOT useful to my single man life!

@@matthewlake182 what kind of work do you do? I have physically demanding jobs like many in society. It's expensive enough to eat healthy but calorie restriction would cause us injury and harm if we're not able to maintain our muscle mass and have proper energy stores. I think most of those CR benefits come from that of fasting (which is also an important practice I forgot to mention, other than low carb and ketosis).

@@BrianRatcliffe This is not true that calorie restriction decreases your muscle mass and alertness. Specifically FASTING actually preserves the muscle mass and increases the focus. I have been doing it for two years at this point, I eat once in 24 hours and feel great (in good shape, not anorexic, great energy and focus). Listen to the lectures by dr. Jason Fung (they are available for free here on youtube). His approach has transformed my life for the better.
