Awesome camera work. Appreciate how you don't skip steps in the narration. 👍 For my own calf block, I cut 6-inch section of schedule-80 PVC in half lengthwise yet slightly off center so that one is a tad larger than the other. Tuck and glue the smaller half inside the other, and then drill four holes in the base edges, insert bolts and nuts, and finish with common stairway nonslip. It makes a calf block that is easy to handle and will last longer than you will ever live!

Suggest raising it a bit and adding two shallow grooves to the top for dumbell holders, so it can be used for a situp toe anchor as well.

@@KaizenDIYGym I'll post a pic. I really just want to save the carpet on my stairs, and the skateboard tape is an awesome idea. I also saw someone else just using dumbells for situp toe holders, so they might not be that useful. Of course any excuse to use my router ;)

Thanks great tutorial! Question: Do you recommend using a larger round over for the edge of the 4x4 where your feet will be working? Like 1/2" bit? Lap joints tip: After you've made the first 10 or so cuts, instead of laboriously going back and forth cutting out all the wood bits until they're gone, you can "cheat" and just take a chisel and hammer and knock them out. Much easier/faster. Then clean up surface with sander or chisel or miter saw or whatever you have... Personally I'll go ahead and make this, but use an English Chestnut stain probably (left over) then a few coats of poly. Thanks for the skateboard deck idea!

  • @KaizenDIYGym

The 4x4 I used for the top already had the edges rounded, but it wouldn’t hurt to use a larger bit. I am aware of the chisel method, I actually prefer doing it this way for more consistent results, even if it takes a little longer. Thanks for the support!

@@KaizenDIYGym Sounds good! Re: round over edges, I guess one could also just leave the original 4x4 corner radius (~1/8") on one side, and round over 1/2" on the other side. Then decide. Overthinking it ;) Thanks again, Cheers!

I love this calf block! If you would have done a full measurements schematic that would have rocked. Measurements like how deep you have cut in each piece for the lap joints, at what height it's the 45° cut made. Can you please do a schematic and post it on your web site? You would help so many people out! Thanks!

@@KaizenDIYGym thanks, that would be mega awesome. If you want i will try to make a sketch in a jpg format of the three pieces needed for the calf block. I'll send it to you somehow then you could edit and add the measurements then post it to your web site and Instagram if you would like so or just send me the exact measurements that i mentioned and i will make a full sketch my self and send it for you, measurements would be cool in centimeters or both. I want to ask someone to help me build the same calf block you made, measurement wise it looks you nailed in every way, looks great, looks like factory made. Seen a few of your other videos, you are very creative, you should patent some of your work. Companies like Rogue could hire you for new ideas and new piece development! Sometimes i ask my self why they dont do this and that....

Just eye balling it, it looks like the lap joints are each 1.5" deep so that the top sticks out about 0.5". Making the calf raise block 4" in height. The chamfers on the side look like they are at 45 degrees and go to the halfway point (1.75").

  • @AexoeroV

@@Watcher4187 hey chamfer seems higher than mid point. I dunno why its so hard for Kaizen to help out with those exact measurements, 2 minutes job but he didnt bothered to do it! I have remembered to him about the measurements in another video or on Instagram but he dont care about his audience! I would be trilled if someone would love to do the exact same piece that i designed but we are not all the same! Thanks for you reply!

I built something similar, but a bit less stylish. The safety squat bar is a really neat idea, but I use a straight chin up bar. It came with my rack. That got replaced by a multigrip cambered pull up attachment. Rather than waste the straight bar, I have used lynch pins to pin it between my jammer arms. I then use a hip thrust pad for shoulders protection on the bar and the jammers are chained to the rack from the top to stop them going too far below 90 degrees so it works like a regular standing calf raise and can even be used for pendulum squats, presses and rows. Put plates on the jammer arms and it's a lot safer than the SSB. You can also set it up with the jammer arms at a lower height and do either seated calf raises or donkey calf raises. With the chains in place, you can hold on to the rack uprights and calf press more weight. The chains I use on the jammer arms are also used for regular Squat Bench and deadlift with chains. So everything is multi functional and that saves space. It's a pain to set it all up, but it's nice to have the option.

Slant board for stretching...squats, front split squats, sitting calf raise! I want to do this too. I think I will use a 6"x28"x 1" piece of wood attached to one side. Just need to decide on the angle, probably 15 degrees. Then make the angled cuts on the end pieces and attach the board. I also use this as a pushup stand with handles attached on the outside.
