    Many years ago I had a spider bite on my right knee. Burning, stabbing pain and the thing not only would not heal, it kept growing into a red, raw ulcer nearly 3 inches across. . Tried everything and when my dr suggested a broad spectrum antibiotic, I used calendula oil instead. The pain was gone in 24 hrs. It took awhile, but each day was a little better and it healed with no scarring.

    Such wonderful information,I grew up in Germany Southern Bavaria and in the summers I lived at my grandmothers house located in a meadow next to the farmers and fresh milk,one thing she did as what I call a pioneer woman I’m presently 70 was make her own salves and Cremes from fresh herbs that she grew in her garden...a single parent left with six children in her late 30s she had to learn from the land and care of those children...I wish we would get back to that way of life and I believe inadvertently that is where we are heading ...self sufficiency is rewarding challenging and so wonderful in the whole of it...calendula salve is what she used to ease all of the bee stings from the meadow as I wandered barefoot...thank you for your wonderful channel and being so giving with information...with hope this year I will retire creating that rose garden I always wanted as well as the nutrition from my own garden,stay blessed

I just happened to look on the back of a packet of a wildflower seed mix where it lists all the different seeds and there it was! First on the list! I ended up getting several different mixed flower packets and picked out all the calendula from each one. 🙃

    I would assume it would mean either. Many times medicinal herbs and medications of any kind do not mix. Issues can be for various reasons. A lot of people don’t realize that there’s a fermentation process to to excessive amounts of sugar, which is part of what I have with inflamed gut So I don’t imagine that that would be helpful other than the fact that eventually the calendula would clean up the excessive fungus and you would see less problems overtime of regular use and it would probably also repair your issues with permeability like IBS or Crohn’s or diverticulosis But I don’t think it will be a quick remedy. It’s definitely something you would have to be persistent about.

    Question: I am going to be having major dental surgery and wondering if I can use this as a mouth rinse? I ordered a tincture of it from mountain rose herbs and wondering how to use it. Do I add it to a bit of water to swish? Don't dilute? Will it burn open wounds in the mouth? Do I swallow it or spit it out? I appreciate your advice. Thank you.

    If you are rinsing with it, you should spit it out and while I have never used a tincture in that way, it may be best to mix with a little water, at least at first as it will sting

    Thank you so much for your reply. Do you think it could infect or irritate the raw gums? I will have stitches for the first 2 weeks. I know I will be on an antibiotic for a few days, do you think it will be a problem to use while on the antibiotic? Maybe I should begin after day 3 to let things settle. I am trying to figure out what all I can do naturally to speed up healing and help with pain. I am going to try to use arnica for pain. If you have any suggestions, I would hugely appreciate it. It's a pretty huge surgery and I am really scared. I have lots of Manuka honey if you think that's a good idea. Thank you again; I appreciate you.@@RainCountryHomestead

    Heidi, do sell your calendula seed? I grew some this year, starting from seed and they died when I put out into my garden. I have a few plants that have hung on but they are limp and just not growing. I have had great success with most everything else I grow but I am at a loss with this. Can you help? I do want to regrow next year but need some more seed.

    Yes, I do sell them, I sell it mixed with all colors and sizes blended together. I will be putting more seed up on my store in the fall. Sometimes calendula does better when direct seeded in late spring or even early summer. It really depends on your area

    Just an fyi, my calendula tend to self seed, that works best for me. Even the selfseeded ones I transplant don't do great. All the ones I have in pots don't do well at all. 😕

  • @RainCountryHomestead

    @RainCountryHomestead

    Though mine will self seed, the ones I start in the green house then transplant often are farther ahead. They tend to droop a bit when first transplanted but then once they are established, they do quite well. All my pink ones were started in the greenhouse and the one in the main garden bed is doing amazingly well. The ones in pots are doing decent though not quite as good. On the other hand, I have some of other colors transplanted into the main garden that are struggling while some transplanted into pots are going berserk. THEN the ones that I direct seeded in the front garden - some are huge and others still have yet to give me flowers. It seems one can never be sure just how they will behave

    For calendula it is typically the flowers, as should have been noted in this old video. I do have videos where I talk about making teas and some showing how I use the calendula flowers along with other herbs to make an infused oil for skin creams, though you can use the calendula alone. I love calendula, but calendula dosen't love me. 😣 I've been trying for three years to grow them without any success, the leaves get white spots (not mildew) and I get 3 or 4 flowers from each plant, then the leaves start turning brown and die. I live in the northeast. Any tips? Wonderful video.

    Not sure what to tell you there. Do you pick the flowers as soon as they bloom? If you are not doing that, then you should try, it may help increase the production and help them hang on longer.

    Look at the book Conceiving Healthy Babies, it gives most detailed description of what herbs in what amounts are safe while trying to conceive, in different stages of pregnancy, and while breastfeeding. I think that book should have a different title as many women who are already pregnant or with a baby would just skip it.
