Here I discuss what parts of the plant to harvest for effective use, when to harvest them, how to make oil out of them for use as a salve, as well as discuss the science behind how Calendula is effective as a medicine.

    I have been growing these for the last few years. They reseed themselves wonderfully and I only planted them once 3 years ago. This is the first year I’ve harvested for making tea. Btw I made two quarts of echinacea tincture so far. I hope to be able to double that before the frost comes. Next video suggestion...borage.

    Kimberly Guimond that’s awesome! I’ll look into borage. That’s not one that I am terribly familiar with. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Can I dehydrate these? I live out in farm country where we have so many crop dusters and birds that would be all over that! 😂

    do think castor oil cold pressed 100% organic is good to use for topical use?

  • @pathrst

    @pathrst

    @@kel6385 I would think so. Many salves use castor oil. But it’s not the ideal or preferred oil for medicine. Not sure why, just know it is used less often.

    I would rather use organic sesame oil or coconut oil . Both are better I think , because of all the videos on the suspicious practice of making olive oils presently . Meaning it may not be extra virgin first cold pressed . There is a good reliable one made in California . Make sure it is the more expensive one

    There is also the notion of using animal fats vs. plant based oils. The idea being that the animal fats absorb better into the skin. I have not done serious research into the idea but it is also something to consider.

    Man, are you sure that what you are picking is not Buphthalmum salicifolium? Calendula officinalis has wider leaves. BS have all components as Calendula, but only is Calendula is Calendula.

    I’m pretty sure. I got seeds from what I felt was a reputable source, though I can’t remember where now, and checked against a couple books.
