Hi Elly i’m one of those people that struggle when I hear people giving instructions on KZread saying water discount. My confusion is for example I want to use coconut milk instead of replacement of distilled water ... I would use milk not water right, the same amount that’s indicated in the Column under water, in Soapcalc? I’ve seen your video 4 times, comprehend a bit? Could you give other examples like if you are following a recipe from scratch? Thanks Odalys

Hey Elly! Hope you’re doing well. Thank you so much for this video which I finally got around to watching in full. You’re such a clever duck! I have to get a lot more educated to fully understand this soap tech challenge, but it’ll be good for me. I can understand why you worry a bit about us all, but remember, you are off the hook! We are all big kids and you’ve made it super clear to us throughout that soap making has its risks and is something we all have to take seriously. God knows I am so careful and meticulous with that lye! Wish I could hang with you in real life and get a thorough education in soap making from you - your friends and family are so lucky to have you - but in lieu of that thank you so much for your videos. Take care, Elly and all the best. Xoxoxo

Luckily I know the best soap teacher in the world and that is you. So immediately looked for your explanation and now I am confident again. I am so very grateful for you in my life and the efforts you put in to teach us. You are wonderful to share your knowledge with everyone. I am new to soap making and have made a few of your recipes, and they are great. You tought me how to use soap calc, how to measure my molds, how to work out a batch, and lots more. Love from South Africa. And to think your wonderful teaching will be on utube for years to come to help everyone. Thanks again

When I watched this video about a month ago, I had all the ingredients to make my first batch of homemade 100% olive oil w/ Act. Charcoal and Turmeric soap (500g), used soap calc and I couldn't find anything about lye concentration. Only safety tips. Up to the ears in safety. Not discounting safety in anyway, but WHEN I saw this video, I instantly subscribed . I went into my basement and started a batch. This video really put the ball in the court for me. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I think my first batch turned out very well. It's not lye heavy! It hardened, (harder than I thought the calc made it out to be) it lathers and it's soothing.

What is High Lye C means to the soap? How does it affect to the final soaps when the lye C is 30% vs 40%? More leather or less to the soap? Obviously when it's a 30% lye concentration has more water so it takes longer to cure but I am curious about leather to the soap? besides using certain kind of oils. Perfect timing for your video to show up.....Thanks so much Elly!! Especially, for the salt soaps...

No - this video has nothing to do with the amount of lye in a soap recipe - the amount of lye completely depends on the oils used, and the superfat amount in the soap recipe. You don't get to choose the amount of lye for your recipe - the calculator does that for you! :)

@@mindasmind leather is a preserved animal skin, you may make boots, shoes or jackets from it. LAther is the suds and bubbles from using soap. Spelling counts! As does pronunciation. So keep it in mind that saying LAther vs. Leather is actually a HUGE difference!

Thank you for this video. My mom was old school and made soap from old grease. She was from southern USA and never measured anything in her life because she was illiterate but had committed to memory all that she knew. She was a fantastic, old school cook and made brown soap that was good for cleaning. Poor mama. She knew nothing about lining a mold but her her soap was quite good. I am self taught from an outdated book with erroneous information and KZread videos. I am proud to say my soap is better than mama's and prettier too. Thank you for this video. I took a two year break and recently made three batches. Two came out great. One I had to rebatch for the first time. Thanks for the info. I am back in the game!
