BOOKS ABOUT ISRAEL BY TODD FINK: www.toddmichaelfink.com/books
Location
1. Few other places in Scripture will provide so much meaning by understanding the location.
2. It was here that Peter made the divinely inspired declaration that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God.
3. Caesarea Philippi was an impressive Greco-Roman city near a huge spring that comes out of a cave and is one of the main sources of the Jordan River.
4. It’s about 30 miles (48 km.) north of the Sea of Galilee and is at the foothills of Mount Hermon.
5. It was close to a High Place where Jeroboam set up a golden calf for the northern tribes of Israel to worship, which led to their downfall.
6. In around 1000 AD, there was an earthquake that collapsed part of the cave and changed the water flow. Now the water comes out of the ground below the cave.
Historical Background
1. This place has been associated with intense false god worship and evil for many years.
2. Baal worship took place here during the period of the kings of Israel.
3. King Jeroboam set up a golden calf not far from here and commanded all the Israelites in this area to worship it.
4. Later, under the Greeks, it became the key place of worship to the fertility god, Pan. Pan was a half-human, half goat-looking, creature.
5. Then the Romans incorporated it into a place of false god worship as well.
6. Caesarea Philippi was originally called Panion or Panias, after the Greek god Pan. Later it became known as Banias.
7. Herod the Great’s son, Philip, established it as the capital of his territory and named it Caesarea to honor the emperor of Rome. It became a large, flourishing Roman city.
8. It was known as Caesarea Philippi to distinguish it from other cities with the same name.
9. During the time of Christ, there were 5 main areas of worship to false gods that took place here.
• Herod the Great built a temple right at the mouth of this huge spring to honor Augustus Caesar.
• A courtyard area to the worship of Pan.
• A temple dedicated to the false god, Zeus.
• An upper Tomb Temple of the Dancing Goats.
• A lower Tomb Temple of the Dancing Goats.
10. It was a worldwide gathering place of worship to numerous false gods.
11. It was literally considered the “Gate of the Underworld (Hades)” by the known world at that time.
12. Children would be thrown alive into the entrance to the cave as a sacrifice to the god of Pan, believing this would appease the gods and bring fertility to their crops.
13. Some even believe that men would mate with goats in the courtyard of Pan and on the Tomb Temples in ritualistic fertility acts believing this would help their crops. They would also have goats mating with goats as well in these areas.
14. It was a sick cesspool of evil and represented the worst Satan, and sinful humanity could offer.
15. The disciples were very uncomfortable coming to this eerie, demonic, dark place, and no good Jew would have even considered coming here.
16. However, Jesus purposefully brought His disciples here to embed within their hearts the imperative truth of who He was, what the mission of His church would be, and the astounding power His church would have over evil through Him.
Places of Interest
1. Cave Entrance (place the large spring was located)
2. Temple of Augustus
3. Courtyard of the false god, Pan
4. Temple of Zeus

Did you know there is an old castle/fortress right above that area on Mount Hermon...named Nimrod? Not even kidding. So much rebellion happened in that area...to include the oath of the Fallen Angels...then the oath by Jesus Christ. What an amazing story our God has given us for the past 6k years.

Hi! Thanks so much for your kind and extremely encouraging words. We went to Israel in October and November of 2017 to shoot more videos and take a hd drone. We've been busy with other ministries but are currently working on a longer video showing all the major holy sites in Israel. We also do videos in Spanish and just finished a longer video in Spanish. Hopefully, we'll have the longer video done in a week or so and will then be publishing videos on a more regular basis again. We are missionaries in Mexico with other ministries so we're not always able to publish the videos on a regular basis. You are very, very, encouraging to us and thanks so much for your prompting. The Lord is using you to motivate us and encourage us along. We'll be working really hard to publish this next longer video as soon as possible. It will last about 50 minutes, will utilize a lot of drone footage, and will show about 80 of the major holy sites in Israel. Thanks again, and God bless!

Revealed through the father in heaven...aka inspired. Jesus then makes Simon the Rock by changing his name to Rock, “Kephas” in the Aramaic language that Jesus Spoke, “Peter” in English, and “Petros” in Greek. Building his Church (not churches) which guards and reveals (builds upon) authority to interpret and explain the word of God.

I really enjoyed this presentation so much. I was only reading this passage the other day and thinking about it and this has truly brought it to life. I now realise what a powerful statement, teaching and challenge Jesus made bringing the disciples to that particular place. There has never been a more courageous person than Christ and that feels like a complete understatement. I don't quite understand though why exactly he "called" Peter satan, did he mean that Satan had for want of a better word infected Peter's thoughts or was it a general rebuke of satan? if anyone has thoughts on this I'd appreciate hearing:) thank you again for a wonderful presentation:)

In my opinion Satan was trying to stop Christ from going to Jerusalem to die for the sins of the world. Remember after they left the foot of Mount Hermon Christ was walking back to Jerusalem to be persecuted of the Jews, knowing he was about to die. Satan was trying everything he could to stop i t. I’m a huge history buff and a Christian, however working on a huge story myself, and it’s really about Greek mythos, but seeing this story about how Jesus took the apostles to this site gives me chills, cause if he said it was the “Gates of Hell” then it must’ve been, or still be, who knows. Only God knows what that place is, and I see nobody going in it, nobody with good sense would go in there. If anybody has I wanna see it.

You forget to mention that Jesus also gave Peter he didn't say you all or everyone, he said you (singular ) the keys to the Kingdom of heaven, what ever you bind on earth will be bond in heaven and whatever you lose on earth will be lose in heaven. This meaning if one knows royalty means when the King leaves that person he entrusted with the keys (keys represent exclusive dominion) is in charge till the King returns called the royal steward and should a royal steward die a successor will take his place. The Catholic Church still holds the keys 266 royal stewards later, also known as the Pope. God bless you.

@@HolyLandSite Thank you, that was a wonderful and deep presentation. Thank you for saying that the prosperity gospel is just another gate of hades. I will stand by every word you said, except for the point I was making: Petra/Petros is right, but that is a grammatical peculiarity in Greek. Petra, meaning rock, is feminine, so not fitting as a masculine name. Petros is masculine, but means small pebble. This distinction is moot in Aramaic that Jesus used. It’s Kefas in every case. So Jesus named Peter the Rock (Kefas).

When God changes a person’s name in the Bible, it’s always momentous, and a blessing, an elevation of the person into something greater, and also for the benefit of God’s people. Thus Abram (great father) became Abraham (the father of a great people), likewise Jacob/Israel. Giving Simon the name Kefas (rock, not pebble) is likewise momentous. The person of Peter will be the foundation of God’s people the visible Church.

Prayer. And Being in the God Head 😇 What is prayer? What do we use it for? Who do we pray to? Who or What do we pray for? The Godhead 🥰😇 Acts 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Amen Amen 🥰😇 As I was in prayer today I noticed, Jesus said he already knew our prayers before we asked for them. 🥰 Just as I thought that, the Spirit gave me an insight vision. The Vision of the Lord showing me how prayer works. I pray the Spirit uses me to share this 🙏🙏🏽🙏🏿🙏🏾 When In deep prayer you have the Scriptures already in your heart. This gives you a path of hearing Jesus. In hearing Jesus, you use Jesus’s words from his Father. This is the work of the Holy Spirit😇. These spirits also whisper in your ears during prayer. A good reason for a prayer closet and to shut the door👀👂🏿🦻🏻. So if Jesus knows your prayers before you pray and the Holy Spirit whispers in your ear, do you not think you are hearing yourself in prayer as well. Using the words of Jesus, sent by the Father with the Holy Spirit. Which these actions, now allow the Holy Spirit to take action? Wow 👀👂🏿🦻🏻 Especially when the angels whisper in your ear. And this is the voice of Jesus. Through the Holy Spirit. Carrying his Fathers Word. For me To say thank you Jesus, would not compared to the size of a mustard seed. I love you Jesus 🥰😇 1 John 1:1-3 Authorized (King James) Version 1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2 (for the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) 3 that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. Amen Amen 🙏🏽🙏🏾🤓🙏🙏🏿

Thanks for your comment but we do have the Mediterranean Sea located to the West of Caesarea Philippi. We show two angles, one from the South looking northward and one from the North looking southward. I think this might have confused you. You can see that we used Google Maps, which would be accurate and that we have placed Jerusalem as a reference point. If you feel we are still in error, would you respond with the time location in the video so we can take a look at it?

Thanks for your input. We chose to position the view of the video in these two places looking southward as from Caesarea Philippi Jesus began His journey to Jerusalem to be crucified. It just seemed logical to switch the view so people watching could see an overview of the land to which Jesus would travel. So the Mediterranean Ocean is positioned correctly to the West of the Sea of Galilee. Thanks again for your input. We just did what we thought was best to give the viewers the same look that Jesus would have had. Sorry it confused you.

The doctrine that the rock on which Jesus would build His church is one invented some time after the Protestant Innovation, aka, Reformation. If you examine the writings of the Fathers of the Church - those of the first 800+ years - you will not find this. No, my friend, Jesus was establishing Peter as first Pope. And for this doctrine you WILL find writings among the Fathers.

nmssis Petros and Petra are actually synonyms. Both mean “rock”. Peter is the rock in Matthew 16. Furthermore the language spoken by Jesus was Aramaic. And in Aramaic the only word for rock is Kepha. And we see Peter being referred to as Cephas, such as John 1:42. If Jesus really did call Peter “little stone” the Greek text would say “Lithos” not “Petros”

@@filipkarwowski6510 yeah, that's the only way you can make sense...by reading into what is not there. it's called eisegesis and this is how heresy begins. So ask yourself, does Jesus know the difference between what is a pebble and what is a boulder?

How incredibly lame are protestants. This guy in a video makes a statement that Peter is figuratively a rock😒😒 Is his name Kefa figurative as well😂😂😂 Jesus called him Kefa which was translated as Peter and he was the leader of the apostles and his office remained for two thousand years as the leader of one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church and those who separated from him broke out in 30000 different heretical sects😰😰
