To put this in perspective - Dressel just dumped a half second off of the 50 yard free record. HALF A SECOND. That's insane in this event. Unheard of. This is bigger than what Bolt lopped off the 100m. He Just buried this record under a layer of concrete

When I started swimming in college, the record was still 19.05 by Tom Jager. At the end of the season, Fred Bousquet went like 18.7 and everyone was dumbfounded. Breaking 18 was mythical. Going sub-18 by nearly half a second is insane. Just unreal.

I still remember when I was in high school hearing about David Fox going 19.14. My high school best was 22.54. I was fast enough to win three straight conference championships but never once finished in the top 6 at state. I was 5’11” and 155 pounds. I didn’t swim after high school. Seeing the size of the swimmers and the times they were swimming was somewhere between humbling, humiliating and frightening. A 17.63 is wack! Dressel is the perfect sprinter. It’s controlled fury with perfect technique. He’s the spasmanian devil with perfect form. If watching that doesn’t make your hairs stand up you might be a zombie. 17 freaking 63?!?
