No one even comes close to 43.58 right now and he blew this record away the year after. Just crazy to think about. Also weird how Dressel started out as a sprint freestyler with a good fly as secondary stroke and somewhere in the 16/17 season he became better than anyone else in butterfly and never looked back. Right now, his freestyle is great, sure. His times are better than anyone else's, but not by that much. His butterfly meanwhile is ridiculous. No-one comes even close to touching him on fly. The past 5 years no-one has remotely done anything like 42.8(scy), 47.7(scm), 49.5(LCM) times. If you would describe Dressel you would say he by far the best sprint butterflyer who is also a great (the best) sprint freestyler. In that order.

well given that he took down phelp's 2009 record in fly by 0.3 while skimming cielo's 2009 freestyle records at the same meet, I'd actually agree with this. I think this is going to be more accented because no one can come close to him rn in fly, but chalmers is nipping at him in the 100 free and proud/fratus/manadeau have all been 21.1 in the 50 so it's not as dominant for him

@@ericji7226 only men in textil suit down off 47s in 100 free, is the best sprinter and he is so dominant in free and fly

@@joacobarroso3140 for sure, but chalmers was extremely close at 2019 world champs, less than 0.1 off of also breaking 47. Also, while he is certainly the best 50 freestyler at the moment, there have been plenty of inconsistent sprinters. Manadeau went 21.1 in 2015 and then 21.4 in Rio, Proud and Fratus have hit 21.1 but not really consistantly. it all comes down to who hits everything the best though no one can really take him in the 100 fly

actually what they don't show here is that he was so pissed he did a 100 fly from a push directly after this in the competition pool and swam a 43.11. The officials were confused as he just shattered the 200y fly record, but he did so in a 100y race, so it wasn't counted. Also the 100 fly time didn't count because it was from a push. Trust me I was there live.
