Cadillac's flagship 2017 Escalade Platinum is larger than life

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

When most people think "Cadillac," they're thinking about the big ol' luxury-laden Escalade. Fortunately, Caddy's flagship follows up that first impression with some smart tech.

    i find it hilarious when people try to claim this is a rebadged Tahoe. Their mentality is that like the Lincoln Navigator or like the Infiniti QX80, the only major difference from it's lower end counter parts is the exterior design and some interior color changes. This could not be further from the truth. Unlike those two mid-level luxury SUV's this is a high end luxury SUV with its own unique interior architecture, its own unique interior material palate, its own unique suspension set up (magnetic ride), its own engine (6.2L the Tahoe only has the 5.3L), more sound dampening, and class unique luxury features. simply put its right up near the top in full sized luxury SUV's inside and out.

    gedaman wrong, the Escalade and Denali we're designed together, in 99 the base model of Yukon were different and in 2000 the regular Yukon and Yukon XL were brand new and the Denali and Escalade were on the old platform and 2002 was when the new came out it was skipped in 2002

    Ehh... I got in this thing at the Chicago auto show. In the short wheel base model, the third row is ridiculously uncomfortable and absolutely no leg room. Went and tried the third row of the Chrysler Pacifica, very spacious, very comfortable, I could take a road trip back there and I'm a 5'7" man.

    She's a beast whether you like it or hate it this thing catches your Attention. When this body style came out I was in D.C. I had rented a BMW 3 series. I saw people driving new Mercedes, Audi, Infiniti etc. And saw this beast in pearl white, where the sun was shinning on it so, making a turn with those jewel headlights you couldnt miss it. Everyone was staring. Cadillac makes some beautiful vehicles

    Nice Tahoe. GM must make money hand over fist on these things, $40k markup from a Tahoe more or less which already has huge margins. Yes it will have a bit more than a loaded Tahoe but not more than $5k worth.

    Idk have you ever estimated the cost of wrapping three rows of seats, four doors and an entire dashboard in top of the line leather, and then adding auto retracting side steps, as well as the other expenses? keep in mind this is a platinum, which is not the the base price. LTZ tahoes go above 50k and this starts around 70k

  • @banstaman

    @banstaman

    The seats are leather; the doors, dash, and third row are vinyl/leatherette. But it would be very expensive to wrap all in leather. It just doesn't feel like it's worth its price, especially when you look at its competition.

    There's a sport mode button on the left side of the infotainment screen. Looks like a shock absorber. The tow haul button on the gear lever changes the transmission shift points to keep the engine in the power band a bit longer, it also helps with grade shifting going downhill.

    Cadillac took an old-fashioned approach to what a luxury SUV should be. However, I prefer the Range Rover because it retains the SUV DNA many vehicles lack, such as the BMW X5 and Audi Q7, while delivering a modern take with interior timings, hybrid and diesel powertrains, and Terrain Response.

    The biggest competition I think would be the Mercedes GLS. The Lexus LX 570 came out over 10 years ago and in my opinion is a joke. The Infiniti QX80 came out in 2010, and although I think it's a nice looking rig, wouldn't be anything I'd ever be interested in. The review mentioned the Escalade feeling like the same size as a Highlander on the inside. What I do think is interesting, is that the Volvo XC90 and the Audi Q7 seem smaller on the outside, yet still have 3 rows of seating. For about $60,000 I'd be all over the XC 90. Less money, great quality, amazing safety record, and so much easier to find parking.

    Dude TFL, really? Them guys thought an 85 Chevy 305 had a 10 to one compression ratio. The 5.0 make 385 pot and the ecoboost make 420 pot. It take more fuel to make 420 pot. Drive the ecoboost like you want to save fuel and you will. Drive it like you want to feel 420 pot from every stop light and will drain the tank.

    Anthony Webber I don't mean less power. GM needs to come up with a smaller displacement V8 powerhouse for their premium SUVs and P/U trucks and retire that old 'tow truck' engine. You pay out that kind of money, you deserve something truely special. Over $107,000 Canadian for this Platinum and it comes with an engine that every contractor has in their Silverado 2500. I'd like to see GM resurrect the 5.7L and supercharge it. Iconic small block, modern technology and forced fed..500+ hp and gobs of torque. Luxury car manufacturers are doing it every day and it's time for Cadillac to step up.
