FILM DESCRIPTION:
In 1947 Chicago, Polish emigrant and bar owner Leonard Chess (Adrien Brody) hires a blues combo that includes guitarist Muddy Waters (Jeffrey Wright) and harmonica player Little Walter (Columbus Short). Waters' and Walter's success leads to Chess' management of stars Etta James (Beyoncé Knowles), Howlin' Wolf (Eamonn Walker), Chuck Berry (Mos Def) and others. Howlin Wolf was one of the only band leaders that did it right from that time period. Fair pay, insurance, paid into their SSI, and didn't allow any drugs or alcohol use when touring. According to everyone that knew him, he was fiercely loyal to his wife. Who do you know these days that all of that is true of?

I knew nothing of the blues and never even heard the name Howlin Wolf til I saw this movie, then I started listening to his songs and came across Spoonful, good lord this guy had a voice that was just unreal. I've gotten into a lot of great older blues musicians over the last year but Howlin Wolf is definitely my favorite. You can truly feel the power and emotion through his voice, it's really something special!

This scene portrays him accurately because after I re-watched a documentary about Howlin' Wolf a while back, I've learned that Wolf was verbally assertive and fiercely aggressive when it came letting people know who was in charge and not only that.. he also made sure everyone knew how to be & play in a band 🐺

Remember that in the introduction of Muddy to Howlin' Wolf and Muddy commented that Wolf couldn't score a woman with the raggedy truck he had. So this scene shows Wolf spiffied up and being able to attract Middy's side chick, proving that Muddy is not that special to that woman; also Wolf one-ups Muddy by asserting control over his band, unlike Muddy whom allowed Len to control him, his band and his expenses; Muddy moves to steal Wolf's prized band mate as retribution. Wolf, again, one-ups Muddy by staging a possible fatal confrontation that thoroughly convinces Hubert to return to Wolf's band, because Wolf offers more protection and even fear. Last, Wolf has enough money to contribute to the funeral expenses of Muddy's best friend and band mate, which Muddy isn't able to due to his lascivious living, careless spending and poor decision making. Wolf had the least amount of scenes, but stood out as Muddy's senior in every single scene they encountered because Wolf wasn't just a big, dumb, giant sideshow freak, but a calculating, disciplined and wise man unlike Muddy whom was good-looking, charming, yet desperate, indecisive and a short-term thinker. I would hope for a Howlin'Wolf biopic with Eamonn Walker because he straight killed this role 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾💯💯💯

Good time girls are like buses. They stop for whomever would like to ride so Muddy shouldn’t have been surprised that the girl he was with was ready for a new rider….
