Cadet Hailey’s REBEL Spirit (Dial the Gate)

Ойын-сауық

CADET JENNIFER HAILEY holds a special place in the imagination of Stargate fans. As an Air Force cadet (introduced in Season 4’s “Prodigy”) and later an up-and-coming lieutenant (with a team of recruits in Season 5’s “Proving Ground”), Hailey symbolized the next generation of the Stargate program. What could the S.G.C. look like in another 10, 20, or 30 years? Who will be running it, and who will be risking their lives to save Earth from the next threat?
It was a special treat for “Dial the Gate” host David Read to sit down with actress Elisabeth Rosen to talk about her experience on Stargate. In this clip from their longer discussion Elisabeth talks about how she was cast as Cadet Hailey, her headstrong performance, and which classic movies and performances inspired her.
This clip is from Dial the Gate's full-length, 70-minute conversation with Elisabeth. Watch the full interview here: • 234: Elisabeth Rosen, ...

I loved her character on the show. It would be interesting if they brought her character back in a new Stargate show as one of the scientists.

I absolutely LOVE this character. Honestly, if there's ever a reboot with a modern era of gate travel and this character isn't commander of the SGC by now, mass rebellion. It's too easy to integrate the old with the new if anyone cares to try.

I love hailey too i can relate although i was never an orphan and i'm not as smart as her but i feel orphaned by our world and it's hard to find some place you can go without baseless fear and resentment or somewhere we can get away with being us. I know when i'm right too no matter how much they try to call it "arrogance" or "ignorance" as if somehow i didn't go over the information first oh i did lol. But to them because they don't understand it somehow i didn't like what kind of logic is that? but to them they are being logical more like irrational and the two can be confused. There's too much emphasis on over simplifying everything all the time too "oh i won't read all that, in english" LOL not everything is that simple unfortunately and that's why you need people like hailey. It's just you're made to minimize yourself rather than people trying to understand you even partially, and you have to be okay with significantly simplifying the explanation just for the general masses but it's not fair either.

Amazon. For Heaven’s sake. DON’T revive the Stargate franchise. Run the series and the two tv movies in an infinite loop. I’ve seen what you’ve done with LOTR, Wheel of Time, and Good Omens. So…..just don’t.

I found her character (as well as the other "kids" in the cadet episodes) to be annoying and completely unbelievable. I suspect that while the USAF had a hand in advising the show they probably weren't completely happy with the "cadet" episodes as in reality such individuals would not be allowed anywhere near a top secret program and certainly not without a few years of experience elsewhere first.

The Air Force I served in would absolutely be training fresh LTs who met the requirements for a program like this. Especially those with science degrees. The LTs that were allowed in our flight were... super green. It's the only way to learn, though. If it has been only 1-2 years after the start of the program, probably not. Once it was up and running 4-5-6 years with plans for expansion, absolutely start bringing in LTs from the get-go and training them into the roles.

I honestly didn't even notice her being short, what I did notice how insufferable the character was at times. Sure she might be smart but that doesn't meant she is above the consequences of her actions. Being held accountable for going out of line, her reaction was "everyone is mean to me!" I personally didn't care for her nor did I even remember her after that episode (not to mention the zero impact she had on the show after it)

Mate, that was the entire point. She absolutely was obnoxious and she was supposed to look that way. But she had a special genius that Carter recognized and saved her. If she didn't have that genius, then she would have been properly cashiered. It's an all-american story advocating for success through merit.
