CaDA Mercedes-AMG ONE C61503W detailed review

Here is the latest hypercar from CaDA, the Mercedes-AMG ONE C61503W. A 1:8 scale supercar licensed by Mercedes-AMG and Michelin (printed tires!), and fully remote controled. Let's take a closer look to see what we get for the price!

I would prefer Lego to use more black pins. Paying a premium for a 1:8 scale car only to have blues and yellow sticking out all over the place is rather aggravating.

There were certainly moments during the build where I wished for more colours in the palette... but then when it stands on the shelf, it looks great without red or blue pins sticking out. You just have to decide for yourself which is the worst pain, I guess.

CaDA is quite interersting, but very challenging. I have their LaFerrari (although it's not called that) and is was long and hard building process, at times even frustrating. But the result looks good, though a bit fragile. But as a good alternative go Lego at a significantly lower price (since that one was not motorized) I'm satisfied with the set. This one looks amazing, wish there was an alternative without RC, like it was with a Ferrari 458.

I gave up on the la Ferrari. Part quality wasn’t great and parts of the body were way too fragile. Currently building the AMG one. Part quality is excellent and the build has been excellent although still quite tricky in places. The fact you build the la Ferrari in modular form didn’t help either.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the CADA C61048, known officially as the Fantasma Sports Car but modelled after a Koenigsegg Jesko. Similar to this set, its functions exist more in theory due to how complex they are, but unlike this set it is entirely manual & built around a unique gearbox. I had a blast building mine, even though I've built it twice now and haven't gotten the gearbox to function fully either time. Even still, the building process is fascinating, and I've enjoyed it a lot more than the LEGO Bugatti (even if that set is far more polished).

Did you build the 2WD-variant? All reviews I saw so far covered the 4WD variant for which the drive chain worked flawlessly. Nevertheless I would prefer a static version for lower price tag. Funny to hear that there is somebody out there missing the color coded pins etc. I personally prefer the clean look of color matching parts and I'm enjoying sets which are more challenging to build.

I've seen at least one reviewer who built both versions, and actually zero videos where people would demonstrate the reverse function with a single motor. I don't say it won't work at all, but considering the setup itself I'm 100% convinced that most motor power would be wasted and the car would barely crawl backwards.

@@RBsGadgetReviews I won't deny the fact that color coding makes the build way more easy, it does. But then the end result looks nothing like I expect from a premium brand, which is sad. The color coding does add another level of enjoyment to my builds when I get rid of all the stupid colors Lego put in. It does cost 50-100 euro more for a supercar set and I have to get some parts from alternative manufacturers as Lego doesn't produce them in the right color (or bricklink sells them at ridiculous prices, like the axle pin for 2 euro a piece).

I'm not sure why you think the tyres look "better" when they're not seated properly on the bead?? (as per comment on your last vid). eg the tyres on your green lambo are not seated in the bead. Each to their own i suppose but it definitely looks horrible to me and my other lego mates when people do this, its like you don't like your tyres on the rim properly. The rims shouldn't stand off the rubber just like real wheels, I'd assume I have flat tyres if i walk out to see the wall/bead of my car tyres sitting half inch (to scale) in from the lip on my rims haha. I can tell at a glance that in the vid with the two cars sitting together, the front right of the amg is seated properly and the rear right is seated on the outside but not on the inside of the rim so its pulling the rubber inward and the green lambo tyres are just not on the bead at all. CaDA makes building block sets that are compatible with LEGO. Most of LEGO's parts are not protected by law, which means other companies can also produce similar elements. CaDA does not copy LEGO sets, they produce their own designs, sometimes with known fan designers from the community

I don't think anyone *must* admit anything in this regard. You might prefer the CaDA design, I see the challenges with both LEGO and CaDA, each has different strengths and weaknesses. There's no ultimate winner in this game, different target audiences have different preferences.

  • @MrAmorti

You could leave out the motors because they're not structural. For example you could build it with just the function motors and lights, then the remote could have a button each for doors, wing, headlights, and brake lights. If you blocked the main driver motor axle, I think you'd keep the pullback effect. Not that one pullback will move the car, of course!

This car would be much more appealing if it wasn't for such a horrible "designer" behind it. It is a pity that such an entitled, unpleasant and elitist person has to do anything with CaDa. I have had a chance to see him/her replies and attitude on online forums, and its despicable. I hope they cancel their cooperation with him/her. Thanks for a nice review, and hopefully CaDa will make a lots of new sets and parts :)

Sorry but this review seems very biased by a Lego fanboy in my eyes. You seem to have a hard time to admit that this model is destroying every race car that Lego has ever designed and produced, giving you a far superior model for a lower price. You're saying it's not fair to compare prices, because just like with automobiles, you can buy original parts that will cost more and you can buy third-party parts that will be cheaper? What a ridiculous statement. Who decided that Lego is the "original" manufacturer and Cada is a third-party "replica"? This is just your personal belief, or what you as a Lego advocat want people to believe. Cada is, just like Lego, one of many bricks manufactures. You can point out differences in quality (if there are any), but there is no original and replice here. There is however, a winner and a loser, and the loser is very clearly Lego.

Sorry, but your comment seems very biased by a LEGO hater in my eyes who thinks there is only black and white in this world. I shared my personal opinion and listed all the pros and cons I find, and there were at least as many things I liked that I didn't. I'm sorry that you simply cannot process a scenario when someone doesn't have to love or hate something to form an opinion. I'm almost certain you haven't built this model yet, so I'm wondering why you're so sure that it is "destroying every race car that LEGO has ever designed". It's a decent build with an interesting and well-designed body, but from a Technic standpoint, it doesn't have much trickery to it, and the RC features don't really work in real-world conditions, although they're quite interesting in theory. Whether you like it or not (it doesn't really matter), the fact is that Technic elements were first designed by LEGO, period. CaDA started simply copying them with worse quality in the past, and I'm really glad they've improved a lot in both respects: Their parts are now of decent quality, and they also have their unique parts to avoid legal conflicts. They've still managed to keep R&D costs down by using about 70% LEGO part design, so they can offer their sets at a lower price. You don't have to take sides to accept these simple facts. I really hope CaDA continues with a much cleaner parts portfolio and this quality, and that they continue to improve the design and reliability of their models. In my eyes they're still not trying to compete with LEGO as their target audience is different, but I already talked about that in the video.

Wtf are you stating? Does every car seems equal to you? CaDa is simply ripping off Lego bricks and sold them as theirs. There's no innovations whatsoever, they introduced some bricks true, but 90% are from Lego creators. Have you ever heard of patent???

This is actually an example where the company did it best not to "steal" from LEGO. Any parts that are protected are avoided and made differently, and they also managed to acquire a license from Mercedes-AMG and also from Michelin, who I'm sure wouldn't let their names put on a "stolen" product.

I have some CaDA sets and these sets are sometimes better like Lego, because I have Creator Expert scale sets with Technic features(Initial D 1:12 cars), example suspension and clever design for easy RC mode. I bought Solar System from Master serie by JK Brickworks. I saw Classic Sports Car C61045W(Red Porsche) with motors for cca 60 euros(EU, Chine was cca 30 euros), this was killer price in this bundle(non-official e-shop).
