Cab ride and speedometer | Christchurch Tram City Tour Loop | Heritage circuit | Rail in New Zealand

Up to seven tram cars are currently in operation daily on the heritage circuit, providing both daytime transport services and a Restaurant during evening hours. The tram circuit was closed in 2011 following the Christchurch earthquake, and was re-opened on a shortened loop in November 2013 before the full heritage loop was re-opened in November 2014. As a local, I'm sad to say that we're not really "bringing them back". Back in the 50s we had trams that went as far as the outer suburbs and served as a practical form of public transport. However, they receded, and now all that remains is what you see, preserved for historical purposes and as a tourist attraction.

Love the tram tour! Hopefully in the future though they upgrade it so there can be two lines. I feel as thought it’s a bit strange to have the teams go though one loop, up the same track, and then through another loop

I think the tram only goes round in one direction(like the former Sydney Monorail did) and the passing tracks are there in case the tram behind catches up to the one in front.

At stop no. 17 that lady sitting at the restaurant table just changed her seat so that she could get a photo of herself with the tram. Its weird that it goes inside the mall/shopping centre. Nice that Christchurch has this but sad thing is that its only a tourist tram. The whole idea these days is that you dont need a car if you have public transport but I guess many people "drive with their cars" that they can try this loop. And price is extremely expensive 30NZD (thats €18/$20 USD). For example New Orleans(Louisiana, US) has old wooden trams also but they are in everyday use and the price is $1,25 per ride.
