Ashens' editing mistake where he sits there in complete silence for 15 full seconds is fucking hilarious to me. I know he wanted to cut that out because he accidentally bumped the camera, but holy shit I laughed pretty hard at that. Thank you, Ashens. Holy crap, a video game review, the reason I subscribed to Ashens. Then i got lost in a rabbit hole of cross eyed "action figures" and hamburgers in a can. But please never stop reviewing random crap.

I was born in the 90s, and I remember when I was around 10, my dad had a laptop with Windows 95 and a few games on it. The one game I remember playing the hell out of on it was Chip's Challenge. Hearing Ashens sing the game's praises makes me feel all fuzzy and nostalgic.

"There's no way I can disarm this bomb using nothing but obscure retro video game knowledge. Oh wait yes I can. I'm Ashens."

The woman misheard me when I was ordering and I ended up with a Seasick Steve Mini. Just a bearded midget sat in the corner playing a tiny wee banjo essentially. Not too bad though, fairly cheap to run because he doesn't eat that much tbh.

The reason for the 360 controller not working is because it's an XInput controller. But the PS3 and PS4 controller is DirectInput.

_me-ta-_ DirectX and DirectInput are not the same thing. One’s a graphics API and the other, hence the name, is an input API.

Yes obviously I'm aware that they're not exactly the same thing. They are both, however, proprietary Microsoft technologies that has nothing to do with the Playstation controllers or the Linux-running C64 mini. You're mixing up software APIs for a specific OS with hardware, which doesn't care about these APIs. You can use Xbox controllers on Linux with absolutely no Xinput in sight.

Only a couple of seconds in, and that intro was a thing of beauty

Wait a minute... you're Ashens. Why didn't you show all the games as well. Would it be a pain to edit? Maybe. ...but you're Ashens...

I first learned how to program on a Commodore 64. I am so grateful for that as I have used programming for data analysis in science and I also have programmed my own synthesizer.

Would have been great had you showed some gameplay footage as you talked about the included games.

Your keys are in that old coat in your closet that you only wear sometimes because it's a bit knackered but it's still comfy but only really good for when it gets slightly cold but not too windy in the pocket you usually leave buttoned but decided just this one time to go ahead and use it because, hey, that's what it's for! But then re-buttoned it and forgot all about it.

I think you should have put some gameplay footage of the games you're talking about when you get to the list on the back. Also, what 64 games would you have chosen, provided you were in charge?

I had the original Commodore 64 in 1984 and only used it to play Raid Over Moscow, and that awesome baseball game where you can make the 1927 Yankees play against the 1969 Mets or whichever team won the World Series for various years. It provided stats that could be printed out on the Commodore printer after the game. Those were two enjoyable games that I haven't been able to play for 35 years. I NEED to find them!

I'm definitely interested in the full sized version, but the ease of use and novelty of having a brand new full sized C64 with built in games would have to out way the obvious alternative which is Emulation on your own computer. But I believe the full sized one comes with a new joystick that uses micro switches.

Yes it does have microswitches and they feel pretty good to me.

My highschool graduation present to myself was a c-64. Used it for years. I remember typing in extremely long basic codes from commodore magazine to get the simplest of games. BUT the coolest part was when they released their GEOS operating system which emulated the Apple Desktop. I wrote a tun of college term papers on it.

I never realised it until now, but I'd really love to see Ashens and Ross Scott get together to discuss obscure old games.

I remember "back 2 skool" or "skool daze" being re-wrirren for the PC by a friend of mine in the I.T. department, back when I was a technician at Halesowen college. It was a great remake by Richard Jordan. Top bloke, sold me my first PC in bits for a tenner, it was an Intel 486 SX50 that I overclocked to 66mhz. He gave me a drive full of Spectrum games on a 212mb IDE internal drive. At the time or had 2x 85mb drives. Being a Digital Venturis, there was no need for a fan or any cooling, just a shoddy aluminium heatsink.

But does it still have the analog SID 6581/8580 chip? Edit: Actually finished the video. Yeah, of course it doesn't have the chip.

Yeah, none of my favorites. This is like that crappy Nintendo mini where the games chosen were mostly crap and not what we wanted. Get an emulator and download the games you paid for back then if you really want the old memories back. Of course, I remember a big pirate scene back then so many people didn't even buy them then, haha.

No offence, Ashens, but watching you simply go over the list on the back of the box was so dead boring I skipped over half of it. A bit of gameplay footage or even screenshots would have made that much more enjoyable. If going over all of them that way would be too much (which it probably would be) maybe just talk about some of the best and worst in your opinion instead of going over every one?

The lo-res C64 intro pic was awesome.

If they can sort out the issues, especially with loading other games and include a better selection with it, I would love to see an Amiga Mini. The 500 or 1200 would be fine and as Cloanto already do the emulation software I'm hoping that it's on it's way. Having said that, a Speccy Mini would be great too.

Would have preferred you talking over some footage of the games, rather than the sofa...

A Commodore 64 was the first introduction to video games when I used to play it at my Nana's and Grandad's house and I adored it. Might still pick one of these up and find a way to play Wizball and Manic Minor on it too. Maybe add Manic Minor to it too.
