The possibility of choosing the side, synthetized voice and the gameplay make this game epic

Oh how i loved this game. "PLEASE! DON'T SHOOT ME!" is right up there with "ANOTHER VISITOR.." as far as the absolute classic lines from C64 go!

@Epoch plus5 the part where you defend the man limping with the crutch... If you accidentally shoot him while defending him, he says "hey, don't shoot me!"

I love how it was used purposefully here, too. The man is temporarily invincible in his "Don't shoot me" animation. That grenade dropped on him would have assuredly killed him but for that.

I always liked in the knife fighting part when we'd both get the final hit at the same time.

Man... such memories. Especially the last stage with TF2 Sniper having a knife battle with Santa Claus over a river of oil on docks that lead nowhere. My brother and I spent so many hours on this game as kids.

I remember the level in the cave throwing knives, there was a way to throw the knives quickly enough to that after the first hit the guy says "You can't hurt me...ugh, ugh, ugh...arrrgggghhhh" My cousin and I used to repeat the words all the time and no one knew what the hell we were talking about lol.

Apparently the Beach Head games take place in a world where personal firearms were never invented.

Such memories. "YOU CAN'T HURT ME!"

THe best part of this game, that you can play all stages against someone else in 1vs1, which was a lot more fun.

something about all those little bullet holes (dots) and the good animation of the little soldier sprites. I thought this game had really detailed graphics back then lol

Remember when you first SAW a video game? I remember how much PacMan and Asteroids blew me away. Now I'm an electrical engineer and there's NOTHING magical about anything on a computer or a computer screen. Once you understand it, all the neat mystery goes away. Oh well.

4:14 I love how when the soldiers destroy the turret, they're like "It's cool, we'll wait for you to replace it before we continue attacking."

that AaaaahhhhhAAaaahh on 15:36 is the same as the AaaaahhhhhAAaaahh in Mission Impossible ;)

Man, this game was awesome! It's the first asynchronous multiplayer game I remember.

Holy crap I've been trying to remember the name of this game for years. I LOVED this game. I would play it endlessly.

Ha ha! Saving Private 8 Pixel! And the epic knife fight at the end.

Epic scream when tank rolls over :D It was also possible to slow that guy if an enemy on top was about to hit him by shooting the walker. He didn't die to it but screamed like hell "Hold your fire! Please, I mean it!". Sounds are brilliant, never got bored to this.

"you can't hurt me!" Has been playing on repeat in my head for 30 years

I like both parts of this game. But this one takes the cake because you could actually 1v1 this game. Great game! Also, that death scream is just iconic. I still wonder: was it recorded with a real voice actor? Or is it purely artificially coded?

It uses ESS (Electronic Speech Systems), a highly compressed format. On average, 1 sec of audio needs around half a kilobyte of RAM.

love this game, smells like victory!

On watching this I only remember playing the first and last levels. I remember trying to do some sprite animations to mimic those soldiers hopping over the last wall when I made my own C64 games. Really cool!

I find Beach Head (1) much more special, especially the atmosphere. But this is of course fun as well (and has some innovative elements).

I played this with my Dad once, and he totally got it on his 1st go!

What a brilliant game. I must have played this a lot because I remember much of it still.

I seem to have missed another legendary game. I love the screams and some animations are pretty bad ass...

Wow this game is so much better on the c64 than the Atari version.

One of my favourites. Up there with Bruce Lee and wonder Boy.

I used to love the "Hey, don't shoot ME!" on the second wave. This game has a respectable amount of digitized content, both audio (speech) and video (some troop animations). _Beach Head 1_ is also excellent. Hard but not impossible, which I like.

I played this game a lot as a kid. I remember this very well except I have no memory of the “escape” sequence at all. I think maybe because my disk was corrupted and that part caused it to crash.

Yeaah this is exactly what I meant. :) I still have a whole bunch of floppy discs and cassettes and both of the drives, but my c64 is broken. I need to buy a working one somewhere and hope the floppies still work :))

i played beach head 2 on my c64 in the mid 80s for countless hours, but i remember the graphics and sound being different in many ways?

Loved this game! Though at the age I was at, I pretty much sucked at every game mode

I remember making a backup of this and it had copy protection, and would give you a message when you tried to run it.

Yes I remember that too. It would act like it copied just fine and when you tried to load it a stern message about pirating would scroll on the screen. My buddy and I had copied many games until this one and our jaws just dropped when we read the “lecture” about copying games. 🤣

You can move the turret faster if you don't fire all the time. It's funny though, I'd never want to play this game again. It's like I'm an entirely different person now than I was as a kid.

It's the Marines' Hymn - the anthem of the United States Marine Corps.

one of the reasons this game is one of the all time epic games its because it was one of the first computer games ever to incorporate speech, it was also a decent game in its time I have to say the guy in the vid is not very good, u can shoot those heads in the first wall. a good player would not loose any turrets in this round.

The player is the soldiers in the first round (note the big arrow saying "Player" at 0:46 ) - the computer is controlling the turret.

@@MrPanacea999 also if nobody gets by the gun first round, there is no second, third, or 4th round at all! Dictator wins. Only reason you can even win at all is because the computer is a lil slow, and can't aim perfectly before pressing fire.
