My steps on my LS2 C6 Z51 that I was very happy with: Headers/exhaust & intake together (air in / air out) then got a tune... 50hp gain. Ran that for a while, then put together the money for cam, lifters, ported LS3 heads & another tune... another 85hp gain. While I'm not the baddest thing on the road, it scratched my itch to say I have a 500+ hp Corvette, and it is fun AF to drive. Another mod I HIGHLY recommend if you have a manual is the MGW short-throw shifter... It totally changes the feel of driving the car. On a side note, some of the "while you're in there mods" if you get a cam package... since the front of the engine has to come apart, get the harmonic balancer switched out if you haven't already. Since my heads were coming off, that means the intake manifold came off, so a remote oil pressure sensor was installed as well.

Those are good suggestions. My goal was 500 too. My next step will be a power adder, which will put me well over that. What tires are you running?
@ChiefMason
Жыл бұрын
What exhaust and intake are you running?
On all of my builds, I've always done headers and intake before the tune so that I can get the most out of that initial $600. After that, everything else is just a small retune fee. Also, I've always installed my headers and intake myself to save a few hundred dollars. That extra money goes to the cam fund. Other than that, your list is pretty much spot on to me

Very helpful thanks
J Reed, the best mod is to hold that money and go over the car to see what maintenance is needed and what preventative work you need to do(belts, pulleys, harmonic balancer, cooling system). Too many dudes hopping their cars up only to break down on the first good trip/group drive. Vettes are great cars to modify but better cars when they are properly maintained.
@JReedsLoveofCars

Maintenance is 101. That goes for any car. This video is about engine mods that most people contemplate on doing to their vettes.
this is like the best mod video ever ! dude is funny af too
I love how the c6 vettes have a great stock muffler. All you need is something to open the valves manually. Also keep in mind used mufflers are a great option. Its just a muffler. If it breaks the car is gonna be fine.

Good info here. I do think a Vararam intake is a decent first mod, and it gives the c6 a nice kick in the higher rpms, but totally agree with skipping or saving it if you're looking for the fastest most noticeable gain for your buck.

I agree with your list with some minor changes. When you do your cam 2 things need to be done #1 LS7 lifters #2 have your stock heads ported. The stock heads will flow just as much as $3500 after market heads after porting and it wont cost you $3500. Head studs is another one because if you go boost later on then they are already installed

Thanks for watching! Sounds like a good plan! It took me awhile to add a power adder (nitrous) and I had a blast NA.
For my C6, I bought a valve axel back set from a C6 Grand Sport and added a Mild to Wild controller kit. That allowed me to make the car quiet for when my wife is riding with me. Next, I added a cold air intake. Then I took the car to the tuner. The tune gained me 40HP to the wheels. My next mod will be Headers. After that, maybe a stage-2 cam on my Automatic Vette.

The first thing I did to my C5 was put a borla cat-back. Next, I bought an RPM stage two rear end geared 3.42. I selected the RPM rear end as I was planning for a 500+ wheel HP through an automatic A4 trans. Next came the RPM stage 1 L460e trans and the A&A vortex V3si supercharger. A bullet proof combo. I never installed headers or cam. Car made 472 wheel HP with 443 ft/lbs through the L460e trans. I left the stock torque converter in the driveline to lessen traction issues. Next came full poly bushings with custom springs through VBP out of Florida. Hawk brake pads helped get the car stopped. The car would knock out zero to 60 in under 4 seconds. The second gear shift was brutal and would light the tires to the point I would sometimes reduce throttle input while manually shifting to second gear. I increased wheel widths to run a 275 Nitto in front and a 325 nitto in the rear. Have to go aftermarket wheels as C6Z wheels won’t clear the rear suspension. That car was a convertible and a blast to drive. I now have a 07 C6Z06. There is some video of the C5 on my channel messing around. Video before & after supercharging.

Great video! I’m looking into getting a Grand Sport. I want to do ARH headers, Corsa Sport exhaust, Halltech cold air intake, and a tune. I’m torn between keeping the NPP and doing the Corsa sport. I love the sound of Corsa systems, but with the headers, I’m worried about making my neighbors hate me.
@JReedsLoveofCars
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! If you have NPP, I would stick with that; especially if you're looking at the Corsa Sport. It will probably be about the same. I usually start mine up with the garage door down in the mornings. Other than that, they will get over it. Having said that, one of my neighbors has a 1500hp Z06 and another neighbor has a straight piped hellcat so I'm actually the reasonable guy. LOL
Great video. I think this will help a lot of the new owners. I have a base C6 and have done the following in this order: 1) Borla Atak 2) Kooks Long Tube headers 3) Holley InTech CAI 4) Tune 5) Pedal Commander 6) Translucent top (exterior mod) I want to put a Cam on it mainly due to the way the cammed Vettes sound. I know I will have to get it retuned but I am fine with that. Where did you get your Cam installed at?
@JReedsLoveofCars
3 жыл бұрын
Nice setup! That’s a good order of mods. I got it installed/tuned at 21st Century Muscle Cars. The main reason I got it cammed was for the sound. The power gain was an added bonus. Mine required 2 tunes as well. I think it was two years later I got it cammed. Thanks for watching!!!
As far as exhaust goes, I found that if you get them straight piped all the way until the muffler (so cut the cats and everything besides the muffler itself) that your car will still have more power and roar! You can also get mufflers that don’t inhibit as much as others. That way you still get performance sound and power but it’s not so loud that you can’t hear yourself. Drone sounds cool but if you drive it a lot it will grow to bother you, and good luck keeping a woman in the passenger seat lol.
Currently saving for a 2010 to 2013 Vette C6. Just patiently waiting to see a great deal on one with decent low miles. Will be back when i make that purchase months down the road!

Loved the video the Corsa extreme is the exhaust I’ve been thinking about, what headers do you recommend for the C6?
@JReedsLoveofCars
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching!! I do love the extreme as well!! Drone is minimal and you can still have a conversation on the phone until you nail it! I have Dynatech headers. Zero complaints. Very little hang below chassis. Other than that, it really depends on your budget. Most people will always recommend what they have. Texas Speed are probably the most budget friendly while not sacrificing quality. Only downside is, they hang a bit lower than most. The other end of the spectrum would be Kooks
With stage 2 cam a stall converter and change gears in diff for max performance
I have a 2009 Z51 6 speed car added Texas Speed long tube headers, wrapped them, deleted the cats and have the Borla Atac exhaust with the Brian Tooley stage 3 cam and it sounds hella good brother. Added the Veraram with the power wedge and went old school with a Hurst short throw shifter and a q-ball shift knob that shows the shift gate but instead of 6th speed it says FUCKING FAST. Thank you! If you’re going twins, I would skip the headers. Otherwise you will be replacing them again for turbo manifolds. I would skip the cold air intake too. Basically skip everything that you’re going to have to replace again when you get the turbos.
Good advice bro. Have 2006 drop top got it in 2007 only thing I have done (myself) has been to install Borla Attack exhaust. Really love the sound. Oh also also auto paddle shift which I always use. Love the car & sound, but have thought about cold air intake? Should I consider headers 1st. Don’t race just enjoy the sound! Would appreciate your input.Thanks John L. L
@JReedsLoveofCars
Жыл бұрын
If you get headers, you should get a CAI at the same time. That way you’re paying for one tune to get the most bang for your buck!
I have the 2007 with the LS2. First thing I changed was the headers, x pipe with cats, intake and intake manifold (fast102). It was real nice. You don't need a tune for all that, but I did it anyway. With all that, it gave me just around 390 hp at the wheel. I then changed the exhaust to a Billy Boat, and I slightly regret that part. Now I get drone between 1200 and 1700 rpm and it rattles on the gas tank heat shields. Many mechanics tried to fix this, but it just keeps coming back. Still, it is still a good fun car.
@JReedsLoveofCars
9 ай бұрын
How do you like hte fast intake? I was wondering about those! That was the main consideration when I chose the Corsa. I didn't want drone either. Having said that it drones a little around the same RPM range, but I don't notice it unless I'm looking for it. Either way, the car is almost too loud to conversate. I love it!

Man I’m country. I’m not surprised! Lol
How you doing sir ? Beautiful Z06! How’s the engine any famous over rated valve issues ? Thanks. I’m on the market for a stock Z06 2008 and that’s the only thing I’m concerned about I don’t plan to race or track just spirited driving here and there.

Thanks! Mine is actually a Grand sport so I don’t have the valve issues. However, I will say that most of the problems you read on the Internet, are true. I’m learning that myself!
I just did flex fuel intake an full exhaust . Dyno 415hp on e85 and 400 on 91 .

Nice!!! I think mine dyno’d at 403 with full exhaust so your numbers are spot on. you got a A6?
I Agree
Haha, true on the supercharger. I barely get to get into the power. Running a maxed out D1sc, pushing right around 1100 hp (at engine not the wheels). Almost no place available to rip it more than 3 seconds. :( One mod you guys should do is E85 and injectors. If you can't tune it yourself, add it with a mod like headers, so they can do both. The Grand Sport is 10.7:1 compression and takes good advantage of it. If you are supercharged, it makes a huge difference. You can add a DSX e85 sensor and install injectors yourself. Just do the injectors while at the tuning shop because you can't drive on the new ones until you put the new data in the computer.

Nice! I see you went the Pro Charger route. Nothing like the sound of the bov on a Pro charger setup! Good tips!
Good look for your c6, the white with blacked out emblem and sides. My yt image is my cyber grey, my current is dark midnight blue, blacked out, a beaut. The headlights are some work but a great look. 🍀🍀

@@JReedsLoveofCars thx bud, yep i did one afternoon down in SC 2 years ago. It is actually not hard. Soap water the back of the tint film, spray the light. Get in the summer sun. Let the headlight and tint sit in the sun about an hour [before the spray with water]. Then, for each...place the tint in and, silly as it sounds. Thumb and forefinger the tint to fit. The heat friction warms the tint and allows it to flatten over the curve. Just keep all wet w dawn and water mix. Then shammy over to dry....i had 0 air bubbles. 🍀🍀
