I definitely don't think you have anything to worry about with it blowing up. The motor and drive line are rock solid, it's really all you are paying for and why it's like you said, the cost of the car. Now, speaking as a previous C6 owner, be ready for everything else around it to break, in mine the locks would sometimes not lock, the windows wouldn't go down, the traction control essentially stopped working and would bring be to a dead stop at random. Tons of gremlins. But the motor will outlast humanity.

I have a very similar tale. After thinking/debating/planning to buy a c6gs for a year or so, the prices started to climb (this would be mid/late 2021). I had a price cap of what I was willing to spend on the car and good examples started climbing above it immediately. I got SO lucky and bought a 14k mile mint ls3 manual car for 38k in november 2021 and it was just about the last sub-50k car under 40k in the country when I did. for the next year or more, the running comparative value/going price of it was mid-40s and i was so pleased that i got it when i did (i'd have never sprung for 45k on this purchase), but now they have come down to about what I paid (mine is still low mileage at low 20's) but i've put 1/3 of the 13yr old car's use on in under 2 years. I absolutely love the car, but yeah, nothing is cheap for it and it's not getting younger. Great video, I 100% feel your anxeity and also have asked myself "wouldn't a base model do pretty much the same thing?" But the widebody vettes are sort of subtle until you get used to looking at them and then can't look back at a base car the same way. Great video. Enjoy that thing!

Related, yet not quite: GS engine (manual trans) comes with the (2 stage) dry sump AND a forged crank. Auto trans version do not. Change out rocker trunnions, and all fasteners to ARP. Optional 'Total Seal' ring set (personal choice). Min. after mrkt cam should have .600 lift (duration @ .050 is negotiable depending where you want the torque curve) lift. Great swap in (with chassis surgery) an S-10 (especially "Extreme" extend cab version) as the GS engine is 35lbs heavier than stock 4.3 v6 (hint: relocate battery to bed or cab). The [stock] New Process 3500 5sp manual will handle the power AS LONG AS YOU DON"T GO BANGING (no Pro stock mode) GEARS. Definitely upgrade the front brakes (calipers/rotors) to (Cad) CTS mode. Vette or CTS-V units better, yet the $eller$ know their value. Why an S-10/LS swap? Had the truck and (tuned for quiet mode) "quite the sleeper", especially since it primary duty is hauling ✈(Bizjet) parts/supplies. And going to lunch... Many surprised faces😒 when it drives around/by (Asian, Euro and US) performance cars. Good luck and Happy Trails to all

I have a C7 Grand Sport. And I harbor the Same. Exact. Feelings. I love your hot-girlfriend analogy. First issue for me: It had two blown shocks when I bought it and the dealer replaced them (no problems), but those shocks are over $350 each w/o labor. Oil changes can range from $100 to $250 depending on the dealer. My trusted mechanic has a significant challenge just lifting the car because they mostly deal with standard daily driver vehicles. After using a battery tender for two days, the check engine light came on with a lazy oxygen sensor code. I cleared it, stayed off the tender, and no check engine lights. Touchy on system voltage, I guess. I call my GS the “temperamental race car.” Look at it sideways, and you could be dealing with a perplexing and costly repair. Or it might just keep going problem-free. You just have to get used to driving with your fingers crossed. 😂

Hey man, the LS3 will not let you down. There’s a reason they built the LS9 on it and turned it up to 11. Sure you will have the odd failure on some cars, a 1 in 10,000 thing. Those were cars built a on a Monday or by drunk workers on a Friday, LOL! I’ve been reading the CorvetteForum for years, the only engine kabooms I’ve ever read is the LS7. That being said, the torque tube and transaxle thing is moronic and labor intensive. That will be expensive! I honestly hate my ZR1 half the time, for two reasons. One, the headlight fitment. Perfect fitment is just impossible, considering I’ve gotten all the panel gaps perfect otherwise. And second, the clutch going soft or hanging halfway up when you have some fun. I even have the updated master cylinder and Lingenfelter return spring. It’s either the pressure plate design that has been flawed since the F Body or air in the line. Can’t believe for a second the fluid is boiling. I change it frequently with Ranger method and will be adding a speed bleeder. I use Pentosin DOT4 LV, the OEM stuff with a 500+ degree boiling point.

But yeah, the motor gives me great confidence. Perhaps partially because I've owned and driven so many beaters that actually were at some risk of blowing up. Still only had one catastrophic motor failure in like 250-300,000 miles worth of driving older high mileage rides. It was a 1980-something Pontiac 6000 station wagon that was 20+ years old at the time with like 185,000 miles on it or some such. Threw a rod. Was one of the very last B2000's I was seeing on the road before it went. Not a well made car or engine. A mostly stock, loved and cared for LS, is not something to waste time worrying about IMHO.

The fact that you regret buying baffles me you can go buy an A&A supercharger kit today and make 800 to the wheels reliably tomorrow with zero issues that’s how great that engine is sell it and get a dam Prius I’m disappointed in this video I thought you were going to make some wack excuse that it’s to little or some shit not complain that you’re scared of the reliability of it go do a simple heads and cam FBO with E85 and tell me if you still regret it

You didn’t watch the video. I just haven’t built up trust in the car yet-the engine was just an example-LS3 or not. However in just the last 2 months I have heard several people have lifter failure causing catastrophic damage to engine and dry sump on low mile LS3s-so it more of a legitimate concern than I even thought. BUT as I said in the video-the regret is NOT in buying the car. It was the timing of when I bought it. You must have just skipped everything when you got all bent out of shape 😂

Having owned my 2010 GS M6, with 66k miles when I got it, for over 6 months now I have to say that this car won't let you down in the drivetrain department as long as regular maintenance has been done. I will say though if you plan on making more power with the car, many stock parts start to give out pretty much immediately. Mostly seals and gaskets so nothing super expensive only time consuming to replace as this powertrain design is very tight and hard to get to in some places, like the clutch for instance. For the most part though, in stock form this car won't do you wrong at any point in owning it especially if you don't beat on it like I do. Mine is a weekend warrior/AutoX and road course car.

The 15% price drop immediately after the purchase was painful-I don’t keep cars long so I always think about resale values. I went with the LS3 specifically for its reputation. However, the lifter failure issues can’t be denied.

  • @preferreddrift6270

This doesn’t make any sense, a low mileage grandsport is around low 40k. The grandsport has the ls3, which is much better then the ls2 or ls1 (not hating on the ls1 or ls2) but the ls3 is bulletproof. Plus to get the ls3 on a base model corvette it’s going to cost you a good amount, a amount that’s not worth it when you can spend a little more for the grandsport. Your whole video is just a sop story about how you think you overpaid on your gs? If you feel bad about a couple grand here and a couple grand there then you need to stick to low end economy cars. The car is great, you actually made money if we are going off the date you posted this video. You have to ask yourself, why did I buy this car? For the looks? The attention? The only answer should be for the driving experience.

I don’t think you’re totally up on details. The “base” c6 corvette does have the LS3 after 2009. Won’t have the dry sump, but still get the same power plant. Those are going for mid to high 20s. It’s not a difference in a couple thousand. It’s many thousands lol. The term “bulletproof” is way overused. We know it’s not true. In the last 4 months I’ve seen maybe a dozen people talk about lifter failure in low mile LS3s. It’s not a “sop” story. I made it very clear that my issue is not the car-it’s the time period I purchased. I don’t keep cars long. If I was going to hold it forever-it wouldn’t be a big deal-as I said.

Funny, but I don't feel parts for the Vette are all that expensive. Try a BMW or Mercedes. Plus, with exception to breaking down the engine, virtually any repairs are pretty easy to work on. And really, a $250 dollar oil change? First off, you can do it yourself, and secondly, that's an absurd price. I can get Mobil 1 oil changes for under $40 if I look for a few coupons. Maybe you should trade it in for a nice.....ummm, anything else in the performance range and enjoy all the higher pricing! Oh, and Vette engines for the most part are bullet proof. Mine is a daily driver and has around 120K miles and I don't worry at all.

BMWs aren’t too bad in terms of expense. And FCP Euro has lifetime warranty on all parts. Trans, torque tube, rear end-not super easy to work on for the average Joe. No engine is bullet proof - but reliability was only a fraction of the point of this video. I do change oil myself. You’re not getting $40 mobil 1 oil change lol. You’re getting scammed. GS takes 11+ quarts of oil at $10 and $15-$20 filter. I’m not a mathematician but…

@@SpeedCultureStudios I have a 2005, only takes 5.5 quarts. Sorry, didn't know the GS takes 11 quarts, so I get the price then. However, I have a BMW motorcycle, and I can tell you parts for that are double to triple parts for a Honda bike, so I extrapolated that over to the car. I've never heard anyone say parts or repairs for a BMW were cheap. I do know things go wrong with Vettes, but for the most part someone mechanically inclined can fix quite a few of the normal issues that come up. I will say the Vette inevitably seems to garner more attention that many other cars, even some of the supercars, and that's a nice thing!

@@SpeedCultureStudios Cool! I'll take your word for it as I'm not experienced with BMW cars at all, except to know the new M5 kicks ass and sounds good doing it, lol. I still have a small list of upgrades I'd like to do with my car, but finances limit a lot of my decisions. Thanks for being a gracious person :), and have a happy holiday season!

Goodness, thought i was a pussy when it came to cars but this guy took it to another level. Bros concerned about an LS3 blowing up stock before 250k miles 😂😂 . The values aint going anywhere but up, these cars are gunna get rarer and rarer especially with c6s stepping into antique territory in 5 more years. Im gunna disregard this entire video and go buy a mint 05 c6 cuz you cannot go wrong with it regardless of what you want out of a car.
