C4 Corvette Ride

I wanted to talk about my 1985 Z51 Corvette, but I didn't want to just stand around it and talk about all the cool stuff, I thought lets go for a ride and your get better feel for what a C4 corvette is all about.

    Thank you so much for the comment. My goal was to make the viewer feel like they were in the car. Getting a 93 C4, how cool is that, something happens when you get behind the wheel of a C4 corvette and it sounds like it happened to you.

    Really enjoy your. Videos. Thank you. I purchased my 1988, stock, Metallic Red 4+3 Z52 Convertible with beige electric seats, brand New back in the day, November 1987, she is well maintained, Seats, carpets, Interior rubbers etc, all in showroom condition everything is greased well with only 14,104 Original miles.. I never realized that I could shift while in Overdrive with the Doug Nash Trans using my clutch, with the button. Had fun keep up the good work.

    Nice video. I have had the luxury of owning 2 corvettes. One i still have. My first was a 1976 C3 4 speed which pushed out a staggering 165 HP, the years of the emission mess. It was a very fun car and I don't regret owning it. At this point I have a 1992 C4 Convertible with 54K miles. A rather odd duck if I must say so. The car was originally born an LT1 automatic. The original owner was an employee of GM and when the LT4 engine came out in 96 he swapped out the LT1 for the LT4 and put in the 6 speed ZR transmission. He added headers and a different cam. The HP rating in this car hovers around the 350 mark. Quite a difference from the 1976. These are fun cars and not appreciated as much as I believe they should be. Thanks again for the video. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to others.

    I agree, these are truly fun cars to drive, there nothing quite like it. Your 92 Vette sounds awesome, 6 speed ZR, LT4, Cam, Headers what else could ask for. That's the C4 Corvette to keep and enjoy. Thanks so much for the comment.

    Nice informative drive. I bought my 89 2 years ago. Tires only had about 6000 miles on them and looked great. Date coding them i found out that they were12 years old. After 6 years they can become an insurance liability if heaven forbid one gets in a crash. I changed mine out and could feel a vast difference in both the plyability of the t ire and the performance of t he car as a whol.

Be sure to check out my video review on the 4+3, I have a chart describing the difference in the years, check out the 1986 for a better understanding of how it works. Hope this will give you a better understanding of your 4+3.

    Finally got my 1987 Z52 back on the road and the weather drops like a stone! Rebuilding the original distributor right now. I have the same interior as you do. Mine has a racing TH700 trans in it. 235,000 miles on the old engine. About 50 on the new BluePrint CT 396 beast. April car shows can't come soon enough! Love these cars.

    @@kussstuff Thanks, it is. Very "Old School" still an OBD1 computer driven engine. Because she blows off the P255's at 60 mph, I am sourcing 1988 ZR1 size wheels and tires. The engine will be dyno tuned in the Spring. It pulled 550 BHP at the shop. C4's are Awesome!

    I remember when the C4 first came out and people were talking about how well the new chassis handled, they said things like taking off-ramps at 120mph (maybe exaggeration) but the C4 chassis was a game changer for its time. You have a nice one, it sounds real solid, no rattles, and 3 pedals too! That car is a keeper. I agree it sounds good with stock exhaust. Having a quieter interior helps make it a better road trip car as opposed to just a toy for blasting around. I have a performance exhaust in my truck and it drones at 1800 - 2000 rpm which is where you'll be cruising at highway speed. The droning makes listening to the stereo difficult. Is there an air bag in that car? You're darn right that Corvette is going to be a death trap if you go head on with just about anything else on the road, especially trucks. Same goes for all Vettes, or any other low slung sports car, that's just how it is. I saw a video of some guy pulling out hard onto a street to impress the camera in a Vette, he fishtailed into the oncoming lane and was momentarily lined up with a lifted pickup truck before he got back in his own lane just in time. Anyone could see that pickup would have killed him, the front bumper was about even with his windshield. It pays to drive that car like an adult. A lot of us older guys would have done things like that in a Vette when we were young too, (I had a '73 454 4-spd that I totaled, lol) but we lucked out and now we know better from experience and clear thinking.

    Cold air has more density so you are getting more oxygen inside the motor cylinders. I have an LT1 and the fan does not even kick on until 230! Designed to run hot. Freaked me out a bit at first but now I ignore it.

  • @kussstuff

    @kussstuff

    Your right about cold air density, and these C4 run hot, but I have found that when it's cold enough outside to keep my temp at around 180 it runs stronger. Thanks for the comment.

    Thanks for the video! I originally was thinking about getting a '85 due to the absence of vats although am now leaning more towards a '89. Really love the digital dash of the pre 1990 models even if the engine isn't as peppy as the post-1992 ones. While speed is nice I'm looking to just cruise more than anything else. That Z 51 package would be nice if I can find a c4 with it.

    The c4 corvette is a little like a roller coaster, when you take off it slams you into your seat , hit the breaks and brings you down like a parachute, bang a gear and go around a tight corner and you feel like your on rails. .... Hope this answers your question.

    Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called "BABVVO = Bundesabgasbespaßungsverbots- und Kontrollverordnung" in German.
