C-PEPTIDE (Important DIABETES Test Doctors don’t Know About) 2024

There is a test that can immediately tell you if you are hyperinsulinemic, whether you have Type 1 Diabetes or Type 2 Diabetes, whether you have Type 2 Diabetes or L.A.D.A. Sounds pretty powerful right? So how come your doctor has never heard of it and/or refuses to order it for you? If your doctor refuses to order a C-Peptide for you, please Share this video with him/her so they can help you and others.
C-Peptide is an easy test to do, is fairly inexpensive, and gives you lots of information about your metabolic health. You can use your c-peptide to uncover much-needed information about your metabolic health. The CPT code for C-Peptide is 84681. If your blood glucose and/or A1c has ever been high, then your insurance will pay for a C-Peptide test, or you can order your own C-Peptide using this link, without your doctor...

I’m tired of my Dr brushing me off because I want preventative testing done. She only seems interested in testing (at a superficial level) what is already known/wrong to prove her diagnosis. I think it’s time to change Drs.

It is frustrating, but you have to keep in mind that many doctors are aggressively discouraged from doing more than those superficial tests. Many insurance companies won't pay for more sophisticated testing, claiming it's unwarranted. That means YOU get stuck with loads of out-of-pocket expenses.

Yeah, I managed to get my doctor to bend on the c peptide, but she completely refused the complete thyroid saying only TSH is useful. She's deferring the decision on sex hormone screen to the ob-gyn she referred me to. I really wish we could get status when well too. That's completely aside from the fact that I have symptoms that could justify those tests.

However, I suspect most doctors are. I might have to kiss a lot of toads before I find a prince/princess (of a doctor). 😁 There's only 1 doctor listed on the Keto lists anywhere nearby and he's the wrong medical group so he's not covered by my HMO. No guarantee he'd order the thyroid panel either, but I'm guessing he'd be less likely to try to put me on statins for high LDL. FWIW, the OB/GYN won't do the sex hormone panel either because she thinks I'm peri-menopausal, so my hormones are fluctuating too much.

Thank you Dr. Berry for highlighting this little known molecule, and the importance of measuring it to gauge insulin resistance/hyperinsulinemia. Now, instead of having to go through a doctor and getting this test done in lab, if would be so nice if we could democratize access to a c-peptide test by getting a home testing kit developed. This would be a game changer! Think of how much the relatively inexpensive blood glucose meters, continuous glucose monitors, and blood pressure machines have done to empower the individual to take charge of their own health at home. I think a relatively inexpensive at home testing device that measures c-peptide would be the greatest tool ever invented to prevent a person from becoming a patient. I hope some engineer gets on this project. He or she, if she can develop such a device, will not only make the world a better place. He or she would become super wealthy.

If I heard you correctly, you said that T2 can transition to LADA. How so? LADA, an autoimmune disease, is often misdiagnosed as T2. The way to differentiate them is to look at antibodies, like GAD, ICA, IA, etc. Of course c-Pep comes in handy to monitor the beta cell function of LADA pts who are using keto to delay needing insulin (or if ever). But true T2 has to do with insulin resistance (IR) - and although C-pep may come in handy, a fasting glucose along with a fasting insulin is a good way to check for IR and monitor its improvement. And reversal of T2, and improvement of IR comes with cutting out the carbs - and going keto if necessary.

I greatly appreciate your hard work, what a wonderful informative video doctor. Sadly My 10 year old son got diagnosed with type1 diabetic almost a year ago. No one did a cpeptide test for him and right away they put him on insulin injection even though his insulin level was showing in a normal range during the blood test! When I asked how do they know he is type1 I was told that his blood test showed antibodies(GAD 65>250, and IA-2 0.37, Insulin autoantibody < 0.4, ) so they said he is type1 ..... It was super hard for me to believe this so I did take him to another doctor and he surprisingly said why they put him on insulin injection this early without telling me that if his is type1 or 2... after seeing the 2nd doctor I got more confused I start doing more research and came a cross of cpeptide... so I did push the 1st doctor to do the cpeptide test .. his cpeptide was 0.6 ... can you please let me know if 0.6 means type1 or not ? is it too low for 10 year old boy to have a 0.6 cpeptide.... are any type 2 diabetic in the world that has a antibodies too or antibodies are only for type1....his been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism as well and for some reason I been keep thinking that the thyroid is the main reason for all his blood sugar elevations.... Thankfully his thyroid is in the normal range now and he is on a very low insulin injection thanks to low carb/ keto diet. Please help.Thank you. As always you rocked it doctor 👍👍👍👍

Thank you Dr Berry, Alas, I'm in the UK, so will not benefit from your link. As mentioned before, when I was initially diagnosed with T2D just over three years ago, I had an excellent DN, who gave me all the support and did not patronise me with the vague 'your results are okay'. Instead, she explained that my C-Peptide was elevated and that it indicated inflammation. Since she left the practice, I am no longer given this level of support. Indeed, as I have refused the GP's offer of statins, Ace inhibitors, insulin and all the other 'necessary' medications to 'manage' my 'progressive' condition, I have had only one A1c - and that only after pestering the practice - after which I was told absolutely nothing. Again, after several phone calls, I was eventually told that my A1c was, er, okay. When I asked about triglycerides, C-Peptide, I was told that they don't bother to measure that as it was not necessary. I finally got my actual A1c of 39 (UK metrics) after going into the surgery to make an appointment with the GP. A GP, btw, who I've never actually met. Of course, I did not meet him on that occasion either, but the receptionist was kind enough to save his time and effort, by finally divulging the limited results of the test. Hey, the NHS is free at point of need, but I actually pay tax and national insurance, and the results are mine, so what's the big deal about keeping them a secret. Maybe if I'd accepted the drugs, he would have been more forthcoming with the results. But then, we all know, I'd be fat, with sore joints and muscles, depressed as hell with a much higher A1c and a C-Peptide to match. Then, he'd be able to follow his training at 'medication' school, and prescribe even more pills to keep me going until the next hurdle. Eh, no thanks! I'll just stick with my 'dangerous' LCHF and IF 'fad' lifestyle.

However I discovered if you write to the practice manager and tell them you want online access to your records and test results, they have to give you access and will give you a personal letter which explains how to gain access and a unique code and login. You can then export all your test results to your own computer for you to analyse in your own time. I discovered that when I had rang in previous years to be told everything was "normal", that there were a few items that were right on limits of normal and the general picture in previous years was that they had gotten worse each year, although still "normal" !!! It appears that nobody bothers to compare previous results to see a pattern emerging !! Mention in letter to G.P. that you want full access as you want to take responsibility for your own health! Good luck and let me know back here now you get on. A receptionist reading out everything is "normal" over the phone is far from normal in itself, although sadly in the UK it is the norm and most people just accept everything they are told.😬

@@dlou3264 D'lou, Thank you for reading my post. I think our current situation is making us all a bit braver when it comes to questioning the established solution to health challenges. Today, we are fortunate to have the internet, PubMed, the good Dr Berry (and many others) to point us in the direction of an alternative to a slow slide into polypharmacy, sickness, obesity, blindness, kidney failure and amputation. The very best of wishes to you, too!

whomadethatsaltysoup Hi Again, Salty Soup! You Are So Welcome! It’s wonderful to read the thoughts of others, reach out over long spaces, people we would most likely never know otherwise. Here, it’s like a neighborhood. Reading your post, I thought, insulin resistance is so wide spread, over most every land I read about. Some escape it, mostly. I know and love someone who has fought it for decades and decades. Many close calls, momentary blackouts to near blackouts, vision problems, fighting obesity, leg ulcers, Terribly Dry skin, toenail fungus, and more. There was a parathyroid issue of some kind, too. Reading your post reminded me of his problems. His work schedule was extremely odd, difficult. He’s still battling sleep issues, obviously foundational. There was one prescription that was given to him that made him bleed. Frightening. He tried it a short tome (too long in my thinking), and told them straight out that he would not take that any more. They gave him something different. His was type 2, but went to 1 and 2. Then he got REAL serious about getting weight off. He’s made good progress, looks and feels better - not great but better. As for you, I hope you keep your chin up. You’re so much more than the sum of all your issues and problems. Your health is important, but you yourself are immensely more. I’ve had problems in my life where I can remember giving up hope, then fighting a battle to get it back. Hope is like health. It’s invisible, and it’s worth the inner struggle to keep it or to find it. I’ll be thinking about you and lifting you up. Be well, be safe, be free.

My c-peptide was 1.0 fasting insulin was 2.2 and A1c 5.4 and fasting sugar was 92 So all them numbers are fine, and my sugar will still spike to 180 something if I eat a lot of sugar in one setting. Interesting. I'm type 2 and the first time my BG went out of control (600+, A1c 14+), I requested c-peptide test, it was 4.8. GP put me on insulin and sent me to endocrinologist (took 3 months to get in). Endocrinologist said my pancreas wasn't making "enough" insulin. I said I understand that, and asked am I just extremely resistant and my pancreas is working overtime and can't keep up? She said no, my pancreas is not working, not putting out normal levels of insulin. I asked how they know without testing insulin and why is my c-peptide 4.8? I was told they just know insulin is low, that's how it works. They said because I was type 2, the c-peptide number was not meaningful. Endocrinologist did zero tests and simply adjusted the insulin dose my GP set.

Thank you for this video with this important information! I tried to get this test from my ex doctor and now with my current doctor , and both refused to do this test! First doctor even lied to me and told me i couldnt get the test because it couldnt differentiate between insulin i was making and insulin i was taking, which i found out later is a lie! Anyway , i have finally been making progress over the last year through Keto and IF , and hearing truth from you and DR Berg and DR Fung just to name a few of you many wonderful caring Doctors, who actually care about helping us to get better, after years of being made sicker because Doctors aren't researching new discoverys and breakthroughs, I think the problem is that so many are getting their continuing education through Big Pharma Reps and so there it is! Type 2 diabetes i am focusing on because that is what i have supposedly been suffering with?! , is not being treated properly for millions of us! I actually got the feeling that i couldnt get this C-peptide test , because the doctor didn't want me to find out i have sufficient or maybe even too much of my own insulin, because then i wouldbe asking why am i being prescribed insulin when that is obviously not my problem?! From what i understand now, the injected insulin forces the glucose into the cells so that blood sugar numbers look better , but every cell and organ in the body being stuffed is actually making the person sicker! That insulin resistance is actually the body's way of protecting cells and organs, but of course not good for high glucose to remain in the blood, so that is where the diet and exercise becomes essential! I am just trying to figure this out after so many years of misinformation! Ugh! Thank you so much for your videos DR Berry!

Hello, Dr.Berry. I plan to participate in your September summit. Just like to know if recording will be available and if arthritis pain syndrome will be one of the subjects. I started to lose weight ( 40 lbs so far, 120 lbs my weight now) and it came with generalized pain caused by, I think, inflammation. I intermittently fast and drink water and pomegranate juice. Also, may I submit my question before summit starts? I think that something I eat as part of my food choice might have effect on mieloma sheath covering nerves (especially arms and hands), probably because of low pH. I have bout of gout once which I stopped in one day with vinegar, celery seeds and tart cherry extract and can control sciatic pain. My favorite taste- bitter. I already gave up on my primary doctor - found that it is very difficult to find doctor who is thoughtful enough to ask right questions. I am a nurse who believes in naturalistic medicine, I do not take any standard medications, even for pain, only vitamins and herbs and I believe in your approach and the type of food you recommend.

That's a low c peptide. It seems you have very little functioning pancreatic beta cells. You actually don't make much insulin. You would probably need to treat yourself like a type 1 diabetic, not a type 2. Of course, you can still eat a proper human diet, you just may actually need some insulin injections.
