C'mon Audirvana. You need to do better.

Audirvana went down this week. It happens. I get it. However....for those of us that only use it for our local library, what the heck to we need to provide credentials for to listen to our music that we own?

Left Audirvana for Roon. Also use vintage Pioneer DVD player as transport.

You don’t need to have a reason for not wanting to stream. Streams are not as consistent as local media. The best quality is with dsd files or anything above the 16/44 quality of CDs. But CD quality is still better than most streaming quality (compression) schemes… You should be able to play your local music without issues, specially from a piece of software that costs close to $100 US. Universally will be out soon and will be in the range of $25.

Simple: Raspberry Pi + Volumio. Problem solved.

I use Audirvana for playing back music while at my computer. In my system I use a Raspberry Pi with Volumio but it's a little buggy. Still haven't found a perfect solution. Btw, I do expect the software to access the internet for album art, credits, artist photo, etc., but nothing that requires user credentials.

Buy a cheap DVD player with a coax output. Run that into your DAC.

Plex and Plexamp on my local hard drives. Plexamp can play DSD, FLAC, etc unfortunately regular Plex transcodes most things to MP3 but Plexamp will play it, right now in my office I just have an external DAC hooked to my PC and run straight into an amp with Plexamp or a streaming service. Upstairs in my main room I have several options but I have a 4K UHD player Sony UBP-X800M2 that will play SACDs using HDMI can do stereo or multichannel (also has a digital coax out) to my Denon since it also my "home theater" I still have 300 plus CDs do I feel your pain. I have a 6 Disc Onkyo CD changer upstairs and while I wouldn't call it high end it does well enough though I rarely use it anymore since ripping most of my CDs to FLAC and using Plexamp/Plex.

Get the CD player my friend. Yes, a CD player so you have a built in DAC + your DAC via digital out, then you have 2 different flavors to choose from depending on what you’re spinning . We don’t need to use GBs of RAM and multiple cores and added 100w to spin an album. Just spin your discs!

Not a fan of Audirvana to be honest. I had it a few months back and wasn't impressed so I got rid of it. Last night I decided to try again and within 30 mins it crashed and I had to restart my dac because nothing but noise came out. Needless to say it's already gone again.

Soon a new player will come along and blow all these players out of the water. Look out for the new kid on the block: UniversallyMac will be out soon. A fraction of the cost, more elegant, easier to use and the best EQ you can imagine.

Roon is definitely decent for managing a library, Audirvana sucks, tried it multiple times, it's slow and is missing features. Also what you're describing is pretty much described as DRM Also you might like JRiver, it's pretty good tbh, also got a feature that I like better than Roon, being able to set the stop track instead of setting a timer which is not even flexible, so when going to bed with the music you can figure out how much exactly do you want to listen to.

@@ABC-rh7zc Yeah, it's way too expensive for being just an app music player but Audirvana is also expensive for what it is, but at least you know Roon is supported and being actively developed with new features.

Why do you have 2 intros, neither of which provide any value? The first part you just say you're unhappy then it cuts to an obnoxious and blaring video of you clicking buttons. CD transports both new and used can be found very cheap (

Thank you for the comment. If my power goes out then I have a generator. A must in the northeast. However if the internet is down a generator won't fix that but I can listen to my digital files. Providing the Audirvana server isn't down...... As for my obnoxious intro and lack of respect for your time, I will endeavor to do better.
