    What's REALLY crazy about the "High-End" or "audiophile" world, is that speakers are all pretty much the same or similar in basic concept and design, within a reasonably narrow window of extremes, (they're ALL an electromechanical way of converting electrical signals into physical air movement that our ears can actually hear), AND the basic premise of a loudspeaker in general is also relatively simple, especially when compared to all of the other components in the audio chain, but yet speaker PRICES, from the absolute cheapest, (usually used or second hand), to the absolute MOST ridiculously expensive brand new ones, is a TOTALLY ridiculous RATIO of literally about 1 MILLION to 1, which is almost unbelievable, but totally TRUE!

  • @simesaid

    @simesaid

    13 күн бұрын

    Well, maybe not 1,000,000 to 1, but it'd be pretty close I guess. And yeah, it _is_ crazy! It's also hard to think of any other comparable product/industry except for maybe jewellery. What's also crazy (I think) is that despite all the similarities between speakers, and the relatively basic technology that goes into them, there's _still_ so few really good speakers out there! You'd think they'd have it down pat by now! Ahaha.

  • @JoeJ-8282

    @JoeJ-8282

    12 күн бұрын

    @@simesaid In my experience, or knowledge about speaker prices, the ratio really IS about a million to one, because I've personally literally bought (used) pairs of small bookshelf or desktop type speakers from thrift stores and garage sales for $2/pair, or $1 each before, whereas the absolute MOST expensive speakers brand new that I've ever heard of are between 1-2 MILLION dollars per pair, so that's the only reason I initially said that!... And you're right also, in that really the ONLY other "industry" where there is THAT WIDE of a variance between prices, from lowest to highest, is either JEWELRY OR definitely ARTWORK... The "problem" is that more than a few speaker manufacturers seem to think that their SPEAKERS ARE "artwork", which I guess in some weird context they "could" maybe be considered that, however, the mass majority of even extremely expensive speakers still aren't REALLY anything SUPER "special" OR "unique", considering the basic premise of what they are. Yeah, they might have a nice looking finish or exterior on them, but underneath that finish, the basic *technology* behind what makes them what they are AND what they do, is pretty much the SAME as a speaker costing MANY times LESS!

    I once had a pair of Radioshack Minimum 7 Metal Bookshelf Speakrs. They can be found used for about $70, the new price 30 years ago was about that. They sounded amazing. My favorite bookshelf speakers of all tim are the onces that I still have -- my Harberth HL-P3's that I purchased over 30 years ago for about $800. They are the best rendition of the classic BBC speakers that IMHP were the best bookshelfs ever made, they are still making them but for well over $3,000. My favorite speaker of all time were my Kindel Audio PLS A's that I had in the 1980's and had to sell in the 1990's when I moved to Europe from California. They were about 6 feet tall and had 6 large bass and 16 tweeters on each them and were very efficient. I ran them with 15 inch velodyne subwoofers and could make my entire Redwood House sound like a wooden concert hall!

    Love your reviews and channel. Of course he's headed to Chianti, because AcoustiVine Chenin Blanc speakers are the best. Seriously- I asked ChatGPT to write a speaker review using wine tasting terms. This is what I got. Indulge in a sensory symphony as you explore the rich tones of the AcoustiVine™ Chenin Blanc speakers. Like a fine wine swirling in a crystal glass, these speakers offer a bouquet of harmonious notes that dance upon the palate of your ears. Upon first sip, or rather, listen, you're greeted by a crisp clarity that sparkles like a freshly opened bottle of champagne. The highs flutter delicately like the effervescence of bubbles, teasing your senses with their airy elegance. As you delve deeper, the midrange unfolds like a velvety merlot, smooth and full-bodied, wrapping you in warmth and comfort. Each note resonates with the depth of a well-aged Chenin Blanc, leaving a lingering impression that tantalizes the soul. And just when you think you've experienced it all, the bass sweeps in like a bold syrah, commanding attention with its robust presence. It pulses through the room, filling every corner with its deep, resonant tones, inviting you to lose yourself in its intoxicating embrace. With the AcoustiVine™ Chenin Blanc speakers, every listening experience becomes a journey of discovery, a sensory exploration akin to savoring a fine vintage. So pour yourself a glass of your favorite audio and let the symphony unfold before you. Cheers to the perfect pairing of sound and sensation.

    More so than other components, large floor-standing loudspeakers sell at deeper discounts, used, relative to the new MSRP, because of cost and difficulty in shipping and handling, so very good values can be found buying those use, and near enough for in-person audition, negotiation, and a cash and carry transaction. That is the best performance value in loudspeakers, larger used floor-standers, if third party shipping costs can be avoided.

    Love Opera speakers..... but. I'd like to see a shootout of $500 'killer bookshelf and sub' combinations that slay $1000 + towers please. I have just invested in a wiim amp to replace an early lifestyle mattantz network amp I had hooked up to a Cambridge Audio Minx sub and a pair of Monitor Audio radius 270's .... I'm blown away at the eq and bass management. So... assuming someone has a wiim amp or something else with a sub out... are their any cheap bookshelves with astounding mid and top end performance (that sacrifice bass) that really gel well with a quick cheap sub to rival some serious towers ? In my experience the pursuit of low end performance with cheap or small volume cabinets using budget components only results in low end mud killing mid clarity.... surely some budget boxes that excel in mid and hf performance exist where bass has been sacrificed can form a shootout paired with a active sub. You know... all those speakers that get pushed aside because one reviever or another immediately discards them due to no poor bass response against rivals. I'd like to know about the budget speakers where the cost has gone into mid and treble performance as a priority...... cheers. J .. in Scotland. Ps. The small Cambridge Audio minx x201 active sub is £250. It's small and very quick. So, I guess I'm asking for a review of £250 bookshelves to pair with something like that.

    Future Edit: A flash of the image of the speaker the person is talking about. My own choices: Room Size and price independent (with correct amplifier and renewed drivers): Infinity IRS Beta 4.5. Best Under $1K - assuming we can grab old gear - Klipsch RP3s. I mean, they ain't no Heresy's with the full frontal treble and midrange, but they have definition throughout their range. If you can get them cheap. Get them good.

    You are getting to be a real jet setter. I have the Q Acoustics 3030i. They sound good but not as good as a tower speaker even when paired with a sub. I occasionally listen to them but I now primarily listen to the Magnat Transpuls 1500s or the Klipsch RF8000Fs.I like big sound when I listen to music.

    @cheapaudioman- 3 of the Audiophile's you asked, picked the Que Acoustics 5020 as their best speakers under 1,000 a pair. Have you reviewed, or listened to these speakers, if so what is your opinion, Randy? If you have not reviewed, or heard these, would you consider these speakers for a upcoming review? Thank you for taking your time, to make this video.

    Devon Turnbull has built his company on resurrecting old Western Electric and Altec drivers and designs. Along with cost, one has to have the space for refrigerator sized cabinets. Incredible sound but not home friendly.

    Under a thousand is not cheap, brother! 😂 That said, I'll save up 1k to buy a good pair of speakers. I'm surprised the Q Acoustic 5000 series was mentioned, and I feel good about it because I like their speaker designs. I’m aiming for Concept 50 and 5040 or 5050 for future buy.

    My favorite cost no object would be the Steinway Lingdorf Model D system. Under a1000 i would pick something in the Heco range. Something in between i would pick the Qualio Iq. They sound great but why isn't there more of a buzz with these??? I don't kow why.

    Wow, has this channel changed. From interesting, relatively inexpensive gear, to now trips to Italy and speaker recommendations that for a variety of reasons are the result of bias (i.e. who is writing the check for this trip). Then again, this is the same channel that pushed the awful Jamos, has shown clear bias with Geshelli Labs, and then has pushed Emotiva -- so maybe I should not be surprised. I will keep rolling with my Vandersteen 2ces....

    i miei (sei venuto in Italia e il commento lo scrivo in italiano) gli altoparlanti, tra quelli che ho ascoltato, che mi hanno colpito di più senza limiti di prezzo sono stati degli Infinity (se non erro serie K), anni 90, non ricordo il modello, ma ricordo che erano modulari e grandi gli altoparlanti sotto i mille? ProAc Tablette o le BBC LS3/5a (ovviamente usate)
