    Not a Cougar fan but there is a part of me often enjoys seeing the underdog get the win. Great game especially defensively by both teams. And great choice of music too.

    Great quality 14-13 win over OU @ the new Jerry World. The opening day 14-13 win over a bad Old Miss team 2 years later would turn out to be anything but quality.

    OU fan here. And my dad is a BYU fan. We are both LDS. I was on the 50 yard line. As soon as Bradford went down we knew we were in uncharted waters. The worst $1K I have spent on two seats. BYU played their tails off.

    First game ever played at Jerry World. You hated to see Bradford go down, but hey, he'd already won the Heisman (and would later be first over all pick in 2010) so... Harvey Unga was out so Kariya stepped up and played like a beast. Great video.

    You'll notice if you go on the BYU athletic website and click on football, then roster.... BYU is ONLY school that will not show a birthdate. They show "roster years" -- but will not publish the birthdate of their players. Every other school shows you the age of their players. Wonder why BYU would choose to leave that out....?

    +Mike C. To test your "theory" I went on the Oklahoma Sooner's official website roster and ...they have no birthdays. Don't even show "roster years." Hey, maybe Stoops is secretly sending his players out on missions and hiding it! I hope so, cause I've picked the Sooners to win the National Championship this year. Come on you old Mormons! Bring it home!

    There is simply no truth to the age discrepancy, when you average out the age of BYU players compared with other teams, BYU will come out ahead with only a few months difference in age advantage..... it's just a talking point of propaganda towards BYU which crops up when BYU is winning...... just like playing the altitude card.

    If BYU is so unfair, why aren't they winning against Power 5 schools all of the time? Why haven't they won a national championship since 1984? If older average ages of BYU players really is such a bad thing, please provide evidence as to why it is.

    I don't think being two years older after an lds mission is an advantage at all. Proof is all the big schools like Nebraska and them recruit good lds athletes and them withdraw the scholarship offer after being told they are doing a mission. And, like being away from the sport for two years helps any.

    (not an Oklahoma alum) -- I was at this game and gave BYU credit for playing well enough to win game until I did research later and found out almost all of the BYU players were 24-25-26 years old. I came to the conclusion they have this college football scam going at BYU where there "serve as missionaries" for 2-3 years after their freshman year. The product is a misrepresentation. This creates a situation where the BYU players are 2-3 years older / more developed than opponents players. This is why no football conference will allow BYU to join. Its not a real college football team. Its sort of a semi-pro football team. Sad that the NCAA even allows them to schedule any other legitimate college football team.

    +Mike C. All schools can allow their athletes to serve missions if they think its an advantage. Also its 2 years not 3. Missionaries have 30 min a day to work out, but most days don't even have time for that. If you think not playing football or working out is an advantage feel free to try it out sometime.

    I served the mission too and when u come back u are not in the same shape. Takes like 6 months to get back in the shape. I am no football player. I think the advantage is on the other team.

    In your “research” did you happen to see how many of the players actually served missions? You’d be surprised to learn that not all players are LDS. In order for the team to average 2 years older than the other team, ALL players would have to serve a mission. Just saying. Also, being away from a sport doesn’t really improve your ability.

  • @mysteriousman457

    Mike, the reason they haven't been invited are not a mystery. It's for a combination of the following (different conferences have different reasons): not good enough, a religious based school that won't play on Sundays and doesn't match their values, geographically undesirable, and not a research oriented university. It has nothing to do with your beef.

    Response to Abe Birk -- Yeah, thats a realistic solution... to have All COLLEGE FB PLAYERS serve missions to level the "cheating playing field" that BYU created by allowing their players 2 extra years of development. And whats with the players/missionaries "have 30 min a day to work out".... ? Are you trying to insinuate the BYU players come back from a mission work old and fat? LOL. That "30 min. workout" is a lie and you know it, chump. You are just trying to create a deflection away from my central point -- YOUR TEAM CHEATS.

  • @mysteriousman457

    @mysteriousman457

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Mike C. Your "research" obviously didn't extend to learning what a Mormon mission is. These missionaries spend all day every day teaching about the Mormon church. They do indeed come back out of football shape and they have a lot of making up to do. Whether having a player that has been on a mission is an advantage or disadvantage has been debated forever. But if it is such an advantage, tell me why Stoops doesn't recruit Mormons and encourage them to go on a mission? Why doesn't any other major program? Is it because he doesn't want to "cheat?" Your ignorance is laughable. How about you start a campaign with whoever your favorite team's coach is to start using the perfectly legal "Mormon mission advantage" and then you too can dominate college football like BYU, who obviously decimates every team they play with pro's beating up on young boys who are just trying to have some fun on the old football field.
