Haha, I love your openings and endings. Living in the country side of America and sharing the same accent, this information really hit home clearly. I've been getting into robotics/electronic work recently. It's a useful hobby to have, but when I try and take apart old devices like cell phones and cameras I find really tight small screws constantly. Near impossible to get out. I keep thinking "If only I had a small drill for this..". I think this may be the one for me! 'God knows it'll make the job faster, anyway. It's not too expensive, either. I just hope the bits don't break too easily. It'd be a pain to have to buy new ones often. Thanks, man.

+Bartopin B Thanks for the kind words! I've had people complain about the intro, so nice to hear someone like it. Be careful when you drill though. The Dremel has a lot of power and can snap drill bits easily if you're not careful. The trick is to go slow. When you press too hard that's when they snap.

Yes, there are. They make grout cutting bits. Also, you can use the grinding stone bits too, even some of the carving bits could do it, but might hurt that bit a little. You have a lot of choices for that job really. Thanks for the question!

For those types of attachments, cutting wheels and buffers, there is another holder. Basically, it's a long shaft that has a screw in one end. First, put the shaft in the drill. Next, take out the screw and put a buffer or cutting wheel on and reattach the screw. It's a pretty simple system to use those types of bits and stuff. Hope that helps, thanks buddy!

if i cut out a piece of aluminum with a knock out punch kit and i want to flatten down a few sharp edges do you recommend using the grinding green stone with bit attachments or the pink grinders that look like a cut off wheel? i also have the orange sharpening ones but i figure those would make those sharp like a knife so i suppose those are out of the question.

sandpaper scrolls and a miniature buffing Wheel, one permanently fixed to the mandrel. (avoid the buffing pad's and wheels made by dremel they are garbage). For just about everything else dentist drill bits are one of the best options, you can find used sets on ebay for next to nothing.

The one thing I had to really hunt for (and was not touched on in this video) is what the rubber bits are for and how they work. If you put a sanding "drum" on one and don't tighten the screw down to expand the rubber then it is pretty much useless so you might have touched on that. Also I would suggest turning off your auto focus, its a little aggravating to see the focus come in and out. Focus on the tray and that should be sufficient as long as you are aware that you need to manually focus on something if you want a closeup.

hello. question. i am creating a piece of wall art. i want it to sit flush on the wall, I plan to drill a hole partially into the back, and forming a "slot" for the screw head to slide in to prevent the picture from easily being removed from the wall without lifting it 1/2" or so. it's the most common technique i am sure, but it's hard for me to explain. which bit should i use? thanks.

I am new to rotary tools. My questions is about speed. How does one know what speed to use for what project. Does it depend on what bits you use or what? My Craftsman tool has 5 settings from 5000 to 30000 and I am not sure what speed to use.
@Generalsplatton11 жыл бұрын
They seem to last about the same, by what I have seen. I would go with the cheaper brands and save the money. Also, always buy the kits if you can, buying bits individually costs way too much. The only drawback is if you need a particular specialty bit not found in the kits. Thanks for the question!

Q? for you - you've been so nice to help me out before, I hope you can again. I'm grouting (unsanded) between fired ceramic tiles for a small table for my son's class project. There are a few places where the grout is a little high and bumpy. Is there a dremel head I can use to flatten it some? I have pretty good control and they are small spots (1/2") that need smoothed. I have a question about those drill bits. I'm new to owning a Dremel and bought those same drill bits but I'm not sure how to set them into my Dremel because the bits are so thin (mainly referring to the 2 thinner bits that you were missing). How would I go about using those?
@Generalsplatton
10 жыл бұрын
In your kit or possible with your Dremel, there should be several collets. These are used to hold the bit in place. Basically, the collet goes into the tool and then the bit is inserted into the collet. The collet has slots in it and as the chuck is tightened down it clamps around the bit and holds it securely in place. Thanks, hope that explains it better for you!

General Splatton That's odd that'd they'd complain about such a small part of the video, as if it personally offends them. I appreciate the insight. I'll try and use the least amount of pressure I can to get the job done.

Dremels are great for a lot of uses and when used with other tools are invaluable. Along with the dremel and all its bits files xacto blades and saws you'll be in fine shape. Always look into other hobbies and occupations for both tools to use and inspiration to further your hobby skills along.

Thank you for the great information.. i wonder if one can categorize the bits by their color?? for example the browns would be for all sanding or just wood sanding and the greens are for metal cutting or polishing .. whatever category fits best !!!
Yes, there are. They make grout cutting bits. Also, you can use the grinding stone bits too, even some of the carving bits could do it, but might hurt that bit a little. You have a lot of choices for that job really. Thanks for the question!
Im getting into some light metalwork making jewelry out of old silverware. So I need something that I can cut the pieces, then buff to make sure there are no jagged edges and also to make holes. Your video really helped, but there are so many sets to choose from..any suggestions on a particular one that might be good for what I need? Thanks in advance.

Thank you for this, I was sat there thinking why don't I have any cutting tools and all these stupid disks :)

I know what you mean, thanks for watching!
When using the 1/32" drill bit do you have to change collets? Do all shanks on mandrel fit in all models?
Glad it was of use, thanks mate!

thanks for the help :)
Thanks for education. I need to cut 1/8" basa wood into a very ornate detail. I'm making a miniature puppet theater and need to design the outer stage area. Which bit would be best to cut through the wood and allow me to create various arches, points, etc.
What should I use on the trigger guard bottom to polish it on my Glock frame which is a synthetic polymer?

Are you talking about after it has been varnished, or whatever? I would use one of the soft white polishing bits for that. Use whatever shape suits you. Thanks bud!
Just got my first one but no info on what accessory does what with out just trying it out first Even any google chart you cant see properly so thanks a lot great help
They are polishing compound and a sharpening stone. There is a thin bit with a screw on the end. Take off the screw and put the pad on and then replace the screw. Thanks for the question!
I like these kinds of video's. Not technical but real talk. Thanks!!
Thanks for this video mate, but the white cylinder buffing/polishing bits you show around 04:40 ..What kind of "mounting-pin" or "attachment" (i dunno the name but i mean sorta the bit you use to mount the cutting-wheels in) would you use for them?
@MoreDakka101 Good point about the bits. But I would still get a Dremel tool instead of a knock off. Thanks buddy!
sandpaper scrolls and a miniature buffing Wheel, one permanently fixed to the mandrel. (avoid the buffing pad's and wheels made by dremel they are garbage). For just about everything else dentist drill bits are one of the best options, you can find used sets on ebay for next to nothing.
A very small carving/etching bit is sold for Dremels. But, since you will be working with Balsa wood, I wonder if the Dremel will be too fast and powerful for the task. I don't have the answer to that question, save to say go slowly and be very careful. Thanks buddy!
Wow I got a dremel but I'm still young so didn't know much about it thanks!

What about the "grinding block". I bought a lot with that in it, so you use that to sharpen your carving bits?
Do you recommend buying the Dremel band bits/accessories? OR are the generic versions are ok?
Lower speeds for the work type bits like drills and the higher speeds for sanding and polishing. Thanks!
Hey, no problem. One of the big box hardware stores will have them. It will be just a little thicker than a regular screw driver handle, the bits will be stored in the handle. Hope it works for you, thanks for the kind words!
Good tip to know, thanks dude! Now that's the way to buy. LOL
I need to cut a angled slot on round brass hollow tubing, what's the best tip? stone, diamond, cutting disc? I have no idead
Focus on the tray and that should be sufficient as long as you are aware that you need to manually focus on something if you want a closeup.

thank you ! already lost a few "drums" due to not knowing I had to tighten the screw ;-)
Should you have to use polish paste/compound on the polish tools?
how do I cut through wood like fast cutting through or ,circles so continue'is cutting ?
I have a kit kind of like this, unfortunately, I don't know what 3/4ths of the pieces are used for, or how to place them on my dremel tool. Is there a video out somewhere that explains what these pieces can do, and how to use them, and on what to use them on?

General Splatton do you have an opinion on EZ-twist nose versus Wrench models, looking to purchase my first Dremel and would value your opinion. Thanks
thanks for the tip/info
I have question. I am going to make wooden jigsaw puzzles. Would i need a kit or should i just buy seperate. I think i may only need small drill to cut around the pieces and a sanding tip. What's your suggestions? The wood i'm using is very thin and easy to cut.
hello. question. i am creating a piece of wall art. i want it to sit flush on the wall, I plan to drill a hole partially into the back, and forming a "slot" for the screw head to slide in to prevent the picture from easily being removed from the wall without lifting it 1/2" or so. it's the most common technique i am sure, but it's hard for me to explain. which bit should i use? thanks.
What are the little blocks that come with the 3000 kit. One looks like a clay color the other is grey.
Great vid.
I am new to rotary tools. My questions is about speed. How does one know what speed to use for what project. Does it depend on what bits you use or what? My Craftsman tool has 5 settings from 5000 to 30000 and I am not sure what speed to use.
They seem to last about the same, by what I have seen. I would go with the cheaper brands and save the money. Also, always buy the kits if you can, buying bits individually costs way too much. The only drawback is if you need a particular specialty bit not found in the kits. Thanks for the question!
I like your video. I have a Dremel and it's is great but sometimes it can kick up a lot of debris. So could you remind people to ALWAYS wear safety glasses.

Q? for you - you've been so nice to help me out before, I hope you can again. I'm grouting (unsanded) between fired ceramic tiles for a small table for my son's class project. There are a few places where the grout is a little high and bumpy. Is there a dremel head I can use to flatten it some? I have pretty good control and they are small spots (1/2") that need smoothed. I don't wan't to mar the tiles. Thank You!
I don't know, sounds like it may be a grinding bit though, sorry I can't be more precise. Thanks mate!
Is there any kind of screw type bit for the dremel. Not big, but about the size of the bits. Some things I just can't get by Ryobi into but I need more power than I can use wi6th a tiny philips screw driver?
Hey I bought a dremel kit at a yard sale I was wondering if you can tell what bit works with what?
Hi Generalsplatton, I wondered what you thought about original Dremel bits and other more obscure brands. Do you think the Dremel bits are better quality or is there not much difference, thanks :)
I have a question about those drill bits. I'm new to owning a Dremel and bought those same drill bits but I'm not sure how to set them into my Dremel because the bits are so thin (mainly referring to the 2 thinner bits that you were missing). How would I go about using those?
@Generalsplatton
Thanks buddy!
what kit do you have
Hi General, Thanks for the instruction on the various bits. I'm fairly new to using a Dremel, & saw that they say you can polish plastic. I've been trying to polish some scratches out of plexiglass, but getting mediocre results, with the buffing tip (I've tried 3 different ones) leaving very fine scratches behind. I used the Dremel polishing compound & had the best success with a slow speed. Do you have any suggestions? I want to maintain the clear shiny look of the plexiglass.

Its so soft a material, I don't know that you will be able to get them out. A clear wax may take the remaining scratches out. Sorry I wasn't much help. Thanks for the comment!

Is it a whet stone, as in used for sharpening blades? Not sure if that is the one you're talking about, just guessing. There are grinding bits for sharpening things in other words. Thanks, hope that helped! If not, give me more information and I'll try to find out for you.

The screw shaped bits are for the fiber pads. You place the screw shaped bit in the rotary tool then screw the fiber pad on.

There are only 2 in this kit, so not many. I recommend going to the Dremel site and finding a bigger selection. Also, do a search on Ebay for moto tool wood carving bits. You should find your recommendations that way. Thanks!
