Still don’t see how a log cabin can be classed as a permanent structure.. you should be able to live on your own land!

The only reason I know of for the government giving planning permission is if your woodland is so remote it would be almost impossible to manage the wood without living on site, due to there being no other houses within a reasonable distance to rent.

It's England my friend, a place where the crown and its government remain the true owners of all land, waterways and sovereign costal waters and all that lay directly on, below and directly above it. Its not like buying land in the US or Canada were once purchased its yours 100% free and clear.

Mmmmm, but it's fine if you're a multi million pound developer with tons of money to then by as much land as you can and then build thousands of homes on and then sell for huge profits. But no, here you can buy and acre of woodland for an insane amount of money and go camping 28 days a year????? We remind me again why people would buy your overpriced woodland? The planning laws are rediculous and it's fine for when Tesco want to build a huge store infront of my house or bovis homes want to build 1000 new builds or a new high speed railway needs erecting across the country but when someone wants to build an eco cabin in THIER woods they can't..... Great Britain. But you can go and get a mortgage for 30years for 300 grand to buy your 1 bed flat to keep this insane property bubble going to make the wealthy even more rich!

That a naive comment.......envious, bitter and twisted. I live in the woods Bud.....its lovely.......worked hard for 30yrs to make it happen.....still working hard to keep it together........if you want it.....work for it, be patient and understanding of others needs and you may pull it off. Go at it with the attitude your post suggests and you dont stand a chance.......I wouldnt want an arse living in the woods next to me...... You reap what you sew millennial child.

@@marcusmason3440 yeah that's right you worked hard during the last 30yrs without huge asset bubbles present. Try and work now in this modern day debt based, asset inflated economy and see if you can do the same. I do work hard, I'm a professional pilot in the military. The Modern day economic system is far different from the previous historical ones. Had I have had the same job 30 years ago, I wouldnt be worrying about property and land.

@@rafdannyboy I started by getting consent to work in other peoples woods and went from there.......in that respect nothing has changed. As a professional pilot, especially in the military I know that you have the tools you need to pull it off, including a pension, something I did not have. How long did it take you to learn to fly? You wouldnt take off without a pre flight check or type approval, weather check etc would you? working and living in the woods is similar in so far as it takes time, effort and at times, money. I saved hard, borrowed heavily, bought and sold until I could afford not to.......now I work for less than the minimum wage and love it. An old friend took a different approach and spent 14yrs quietly living and working his woodland and has a lovely business sawmilling and coppice products, he then took it to the planners who said NO! four times, fifth time they gave him legal occupancy for his life time. No mention of his two kids. My point is Dannyboy........once, you couldnt afford to become a pilot.......but you found a way........ As a by the by.....my Dad was an AAC pilot, brother a tankie, two cousins fly fast jets and one of them is a girlie.......

@@marcusmason3440 true dude. I suppose what ever you set your mind too, you can make it happen. I'd kill for a life in the woods. I think at the time of writing my original comment I was deep into economics and learning about the 2008 crisis which made me bitter and frustrated. Hard work and dedication can get you anything in life.

Technically there is nothing stopping anyone doing it in the reverse. Buy a piece of farmland, build your log cabin and then plant your woodland around it. It may take awhile to establish but you and generations to come will get to enjoy it. Also think of the multitude of wildlife that will be able to have the security of a new home that would not have necessarily have been planted there but by the dreams of one person/family to live in a simple cabin in the woods
